Not sure. Would she know where the castle the scroll was talking about is located, or is she going to have to go looking for directions?

Not neccessarily. It's quite a way, and in the deep sea. Mirathan avoided talking about his home. A divination would save a lot of time.

Ethelbert grabs Nimora with a tentacle and swims away from all the blood. He looks for a coral reef to hunker down in and get their bearings

Oh, crap. Even if I head back to the Oasis, divinations are in short supply around there right now. I don't think that's Kaelar's thing. Or Allura's. And Sirone is not really available. Shoot. Okay. So gonna have to find directions the old fashioned way...Find someone to ask.

Nimora isn't really sure which way to go. But surely there had to be someone who did. Well, maybe after they got out of shark infested waters. She looked around, trying to see over Ethelbert's tentacles to figure out which way that would be.

Edit:
Her people are from shallower water near a fresh-water estuary, which is why she is so well adapted to both types of water. So she has no familiarity with the deep sea at all.

Gonna mull this over a bit. Tracking them is like tracking someone in the air. Directions will take you thru hostile areas, even if you found help. 'The old-fashioned way' would take a lot of game time. Hmmm...

After a couple of hours of waiting for the water to clear and the sharks to disperse a large seahorse hesitantly approaches the portal area. His saddle bears the same markings as Mirathan's gear.

With that, good night!

Nimora hands the scroll over to Kaelar, or leaves it for him if he isn't here now.

"You can be seeing for yourself. This is being very, very bad. I is going after them."
She grabs her trident and force web and dives back into the water.

Nimora swims through the portal to the sea. If Ethelbert is coming with her she will wait for him to catch up, as well as any others that are tagging along.

His eyes flash with fury as he reads the scroll. He grabs his comm crystal and tries to contact Nimora. "Where are you now? Has anything unusual happened? I'm going to try to port there."

The normal radius for a anti-magic field isn't that big, and is was right next to the portal, so she could be out of it. Noy up to me though.

I'd reply, but I have to wait for the answer to that particular question myself since the crystal won't function for me if I'm still in the antimagic field :)

Nimora approaches the sea horse slowly and carefully so as not to spook it, keeping an eye out for any more sharks that might be lurking nearby.

Assuming you hunkered down in some coral, and you are out of the field.

The sea horse swims backwards nervously. She has a lost/forlorn look in her eyes. She'll let you approach after a couple of moments, when she settles.

Spoiler:
Normal stuff in the saddlebags. Trinkets from sunken ships, food, a small crossbow and bolts, and a waterproof sketchbook.
The early pages depict pictures of people bearing a familial resemblance to Mirathan, the seahorse, and sketches of a large underwater city. Then the sketches change to those of birds and surface boats. Lastly, the sketches are of the Oasis and its inhabitants, including several of Nimora.

From this point on until we return to the surface, Nimora will be speaking Aquaan.

She looked at the pictures in the sketchbook.
"I did not even know that he was an artist," she said sadly.
She opened it once again to the picture of the underwater city. She held it up in front of the seahorse.
"Do you know how to get there? Can you show me?"

The seahorse responds by looking back at the portal.

How are your deep sea survival skills? Pearl will take you but you don't know how far. Someone else might be able to get you more info/assist. Mirathan's supposed to be the reckless one. ;)

Like I said before, she has no familiarity with the deep sea. She's always lived in shallower waters. But desperation is a powerful motivator. However, she's a lot smarter than she acts around the landwalkers :)

"Kaelar," she says into the crystal. "Kaelar, if you can hear me, there is an antimagic field just outside the portal. It's been seeded with bait and there are a lot of hungry sharks swimming around. I took care of a lot of them, but in the long run that's just going to attract more sharks. I think the trail continues out into the deeper water. I - I'm really not that familiar with that environment. I've always lived near coastline. I don't think it's safe for you to come through the portal, but I could use any advice or assistance you can offer."

A snake swims in.
"Mind if I tag along? There isn't else anything to do."
Given my love of Yugoloths, I'm going hyper drive on new characters.

"Err, alright, I suppose. I don't know how interesting this will be, but you can tag along if you like."

There are other predators in the waters than sharks; I'm thinking of introducing a regular CE black dragon to proceedings very soon which might check the nearby reef... you might want to move on speedily.

Spoiler:
2 week journey by seahorse, ignoring stops along the way. The city's location (and other things) can be divined easy enough,
but the mode of travel is important.

I have to sign off for awhile, but will be back this evening. Choose your path wisely...

Heh. Give me just a little bit as I am waiting for Kaelar to answer a question. In character time it's a matter of seconds. Don't know how long it will take in real time.

"Not safe? Why didn't she use the comm crystal to tell me? Something must be blocking it's magic, which means I might not be able to rely on my gills spell in order to breath underwater. I should probably use that invention I bought from that water gnome just to be safe." The Bard walks into his forge and walks out in a skin tight suit and wearing a strange apparatus. "Nimora? It's Kaelar. I'm coming to help. If you can here try to describe your location so I can find you easier." Drawing a rapier instead of his normal staff, Kaelar steps through the portal.

Guess who bought a rebreather? The gnome maxed out his ranks craft(something useful).

"Kaelar, wait -" she says into the crystal as his voice cuts out midsentence. She curses under her breath.

"Okay," she says to the seahorse, "Me and my friend over there," she says pointing to Ethelbert, "who I promise will not hurt you, are going looking for the ones who took Mirathan's body. But I think there might be somebody else coming too, since he really doesn't listen very well. Stick close to Ethelbert and I as we head back towards the portal. There are sharks in the water. We should be able to keep you safe as long as you stick close. Ethelbert!" she calls out. "Come on! I think Kaelar may be coming through the portal now. We need to help him so he doesn't get eaten by sharks while he is unable to use his magic."

Nimora arrives at the portal to see Kaelar dodging 3 sharks while he tries to stab them with a rapier.

Nearby, drawn by the taste/scent in the water of a potential light snack, a curious black dragon switches course, and begins with strong sinuous motions of its body to speed through the water to investigate.

Nimora rushes forward, taking advantage of her fast swim speed to reach Kaelar before the sharks can do him any harm. She keeps herself between him and the sharks, expertly whirling her trident in a dance of bloody death until the sharks are no longer a problem.
"Come on. We have to get away from here quickly. There will be more sharks along soon. Follow me." She grabs his hand and pulls him along behind her, keeping close to Mirathan's sea horse and Ethelbert. She has not forgotten about the snake creature, but she does not see where it went. She is not sure if it is hiding or simply got bored, but she doesn't want to keep the seahorse and Kaelar in shark-infested water any longer than absolutely necessary.

There is a disturbance... something large and snakelike swimming up from the depths against the currents in the direction of the sharks and the others. A predator that causes other creatures to scatter in panic.
The sharks are currently too frenzied to notice.

Trying something.

About one hundred yards from the portal, a gem on his rapier flashes and Nimora hears Kaelar's voice float over the comm crystal. "Thanks for saving me back there. Let me guess, those sea elves are the reason why there was an anti-magic field so close to the portal? And the reason the water was chummed? I hope they thought my title as Champion was only arrogance, because I want to see the look on their faces when they realize they were wrong. Magics back by the way. I put a light spell on the gem in my rapier as a way of knowing when we were out of the field."

"Yes, I'm pretty sure those sea elves didn't want any of us following them. We need to hurry. We can keep talking as we swim, okay?"

Nimora Orlbereth wrote:

The Bard gives a quick wave of his hand and mouths arcane words. A pulse of energy washes over Nimora and the seahorse. "We're faster now. Let's go."

Combined with Nimora's already existing fast movement that's ridiculously fast now :) (It's a prestige class feature and only applies to her swim speed.)

Nimora swims literally in circles around the others as they go forward, scouting for trouble in all directions.

Kaelar smiles innocently as a small burst of water knocks Nimora of course silghty, which sends her tumbling head over webbed feet, he continues swimming, trying his hardest to keep a straight face.

A little humor is good in circumstances like this, don't you agree? Hm, bard-senses tingling, trouble could be close...

Behind them, ignoring the smaller faster moving prey, the black dragon tears into the sharks with spells and claws...
Edit:
Sounds of the awful melee soon recede behind Nimora and the others...

Nimora gives Kaelar a look that could mean just about anything before going back to swimming and scouting. She just couldn't find her sense of humor right now. She was too worried about Mirathan and what those villains meant to do with his body.

A little humor can be fine in circumstances like this, but I think you'll have to talk Nimora out of being frantic and guilt-ridden first.

Back now. Assume you can get directions from divination or visiting Nimora's village. Without that you only have a general sense of direction.

BTW, Pearl's name is on the saddle, she's military trained with a spike on her head and tail, but she doesn't want to leave the portal area. The dragon's driven her this far away.

Fast travel or slow? Assuming the Water Champion can help with that, if you share info.

Once they are out in the open water well away from the sharks, Nimora stops. She notices that the sea horse is hesitating and looks like she wants to swim back to the portal.
"You can't go back there just now," she says, while getting the sketchbook out of the saddlebag again. "It's much too dangerous. And we have to find the ones who have taken Mirathan's body. It's important."
She opens the sketchbook to the drawing of the underwater city and holds it out for Kaelar.
"Kaelar, do you know where this place is? I think this is where they are taking Mirathan."

At the mention of Mirathan's name the seahorse tries to head back to the portal.

Mirathan wrote:

Nimora swims in front of it, grabbing for the bridle, talking in a soothing voice.

"No, you silly. Mirathan isn't back there. He was taken. His body was taken away from us and we can't bring him back without it and you have to help me find where they've taken it because otherwise he'll just be gone forever and it's all my fault because I didn't do a good enough job protecting him." Her voice is choked with tears by the end of this tirade. "Please don't try to swim back there," she sobbed. "He wouldn't like it if I let you get killed too."

Ethelbert attempts to restrain the unruly seahorse from heading out to the portal

Pearl can be brought under control. What now?

Mirathan wrote:

Sigh. Waiting to find out if Kaelar can help us find the city. If not we'll be looking for directions the only place I know to find them and the one place I am most definitely not welcome. Home.

A sea snake approaches the trio, transforming into E7 with gills.

I have heard what happened, Nimora. This quest is more dangerous than you may realize. Our homes were not the only ones attacked by the Dark.

Though I wish it, I cannot help you save him. I must remain behind. I can open a portal to his home, the Pearl of the South. Yes, it was attacked. As many other places were. But it still stands. It seems that we underestimated Innocent Blood's reach.

One thing other - I cannot scry his location, body or soul.

"Oh Mirathan," she whispered to herself, "where have you gone?"

She realizes that she has become distracted and turns her attention back to the Tree Emperor apologetically.
"Thank you for offering to open a portal. I am very grateful. Wherever he has gone, I will keep searching for Mirathan until I find him," she adds with stubborn determination.

"Yes," she says, "that it is. I am beginning to wish that I had paid better attention to my mother's lessons in the temple."

E7 opens a portal.

This will remain open for two days, though hidden from unfriendly eyes. Take these. He hands them each a pebble. This will allow you to find and use the gates.

Be warned, young one. This place is a large city. Politics abound. They will not be friendly towards strangers so soon after an attack. I fear this may be a trap.

Please reconsider.

"I cannot reconsider, Tree Emperor. I must find Mirathan. How can I ever live with myself if I do not? It is my fault that he is gone. I should have protected him better. I must help him now. Thank you for your assistance. And your advice."

Anyone with a pebble -

Spoiler:
You arrive at your destination, overlooking the city in Mirathan’s sketches. Partially.

Where he had drawn numerous tall spires of coral, cultivated over the centuries, you see many have been thrown down. Following down the spires that still remain you finally cast your eyes upon the city as a whole. The fields before you are strewn with the wreckage of numerous surface ships, bodies, and weapons. You see other ships crashed within the massive city itself, waiting to be cleared. Whole sections of the city’s walls have been torn asunder. Work crews are everywhere, as are the burial details, but the devastation is beyond imagining. Still, this place looks like its surviving. Somehow.

Where Mirathan had drawn a gleaming city of light and beauty, this place has the look of a narrowly avoided death.

Numerous patrols patrol the area in obvious high alert. Pearl strains against your control, instinct calling her home.

"Please, Pearl, stay with me. I need your help navigating this place. Please." Nimora pleaded with the seahorse, clinging to its bridle.

She looked nervously at the destruction in front of her, wondering how to safely navigate this place. She must find a way. She must find Mirathan.

There are numerous gates within view, at different levels. In the center of the large city a tower of pearl can be seen.

"Pearl, can you please show me which gate to go through. Just for right now, would you allow me to ride?"

If Pearl allows it, she will mount and allow Pearl to choose which gate they will approach.
