"Who are the daughters of discord and where can we find them?"

Nimora Orlbereth wrote:

"Their coven reaches back before the Knights were formed. Who they are is easier than how to find them.

They serve the Goddess of Discord. They serve Strife. The one we glimpsed is their priestess. She is a master of many forms and of dark magics."

"So you do not know where they are or how to find them?" Nimora has a determined expression on her face. If the knight did not know then she would just have to do whatever it took to find out herself. In this case, that being make a deal with her mother.

"In time we could lay a trap and hope to catch one, or trust to luck, but no, I do not know how to find them. And not likely in time..."he cuts himself off.

"In time for what?" she says sharply. "I need to know. I need to know what I am up against so I bring Mirathan back."

Ethelbert has been quiet, gauging this new arrival

Or his handler was off planting Brussel sprouts, either way ;)

"It pains me to say this, but Mirathan may be 'damaged' if we succeed. The Daughters delight in torture, to the point of madness, and beyond. It may work to our advantage that he was dead when they took him. Unless they joined his body and his soul before beginning their games.'

I do not know if we seek two traps or one."

"We will find him. We will simply have to do it quickly. And if he is damaged then we will find a way to heal him."

She is filled with fury at the thought of Mirathan being tortured, and still refuses to give up on him. Her hand grips her trident tightly.
"And I will make them pay for daring to harm him."

::We shall find Lord Mirathan, never fear Lady Nimora::

Ethelbert swims nervously in the warm water, snatching up a lobster from a nearby rock

The knight sighs "Some damage cannot be healed. In order to save him you may have to kill him. I do not say this to cause you pain, but so that you may gird yourself."

"No! I won't accept this! I can't..." She turns away, hand clamped tightly over her mouth to keep a sob from escaping. She breathes slowly trying to bring her emotions back under control. Finally she feels calm enough to turn back.

"We are going to find him and we are going to bring him back and everything is going to be okay. I have to believe that. I have to."

The octopus flexes his tentacles

::We are prepared to do whatever is neccessary. We shall regain Lord Mirathan, never fear Lady::

Sytt reappears.

Hey, I'm back. Oh, damn. Did we already kill them all? Did someone plot-centric die?"

A whorl of black water forms. Within it a shadowy form of an elf can be seen. It turns slowly, revealing its true form of a lich. It bears a strong resemblance to Mirathan.

The knight starts.

Neptune's trident!

I hate it when they do that! They love to taunt. They know our quest.

Oooh, cute; reanimate the body as a lich for one of your allies.

"Oh crap. When did he die?"

Not now dear, we're on the run somewhere else...

"No," she whispers, "oh no. Mirathan. This can't be."

Ethelbert starts at the appearance of the changed Mirathan

::By the eggs of my ancestors!::

"Yes, you are right, Telestial. I will not lose hope."

"They enjoy these games. The vision was not an illusion. Remember always that they are shapechangers."

She touched the amulet she wore. "Well, then I guess I will need to remember to use this."

"They drink in your fear. If you do not show it, you may force them to up the ante. They have real powers, beyond their trickery."

'But you need to catch the one that holds Mirathan. Both if they each hold a piece."

"It depends on their form but decapatation works fairly well."

"Catching them is the hardest part, as they love to set traps and set allies against each other. They a masters of strategy, bolstered by their scrying skills and telepathy, but they do make mistakes."

"Well, if they're so manipulative, they'll probably be really arrogant too. That's how it works, usually. So odds are, they'll make mistakes. Of course, odds are they're watching us right now, and so now know that we aren't to be underestimated, but perhaps they'll think ti's a ruse, or perhaps they'll think that's a ruse, or that that's a ruse, or maybe they'll realize we're just a bunch of buffoons now that they've heard me talk."

Sytt gasps for breath.

Exactly. At least the 1st part.

With that I have to get some sleep.

Grrr....

I like cheese.

"Then let's find these Sisters and show them they shouldn't mess around with the forces of Good. They can't even create a realistic illusion. Mirathan would have to be alive and an accomplished mage or cleric before he could create the object needed to make him a lich."

To explain my earlier comment, I was thinking of 2nd edition Ravenloft, where a lich which 'lost' one body could simply commandeer any handy nearby mindless undead as a replacement body, and continue on where it had left off....

"Kaelar," she said patiently, "it's not the idea of Mirathan being a lich that I am afraid of. It's the idea of something riding around in his body and turning it into a lich that frightens me."

Like a dracolich and reptiles? Understood.

or, perhaps a relative? future, or past? so many possibilities. so many mean things to do with a dead, soulless body and a bodiless soul. two parts to play with.

gotta get some sleep. fighting a bug. gnight!

As Nimora and her companions talk there is a sudden commotion at the front gate. Nimora's mother and Joren enter into the courtyard and swim over.

"My darling Nimora. It has been too long."

Melusine kisses Nimora on her two cheeks in greeting

Joren smirks in the background

"Mother," Nimora acknowledges. "I am sorry I did not visit sooner. May I introduce you to my companions?"

Melusine looks over the assembly

"If you would be so kind..." She says drily

"This is Ethelbert," she said, starting with the octopus. "And this is Kaelar, the Champion of Water. And this is Knight Errant Telestial of the Order of the Pearl. Gentlemen, I am honored to present you to my mother, the High Priestess Melusine Orlbareth. You have, of course, already met my brother Joren."
Anyone looking closely can see her clenching her teeth to get through all of this formality.
"Mother, I came here to speak to you on a matter of no small importance. If it would be possible for us to speak privately?"

Melusine smiles at the introductions

"It is lovely to meet you all. Welcome to my home. Please, Maera, find some accomidations for Nimora's friends."

Melusine looks at Nimora as she asks to talk alone

"Now, Nimora, remember that there is nothing so important that we can ignore proper courtesy."

She turns to Telestial

"So please tell me about your Order sir knight."
