Grrh. I don't think I'll be able to come to this. I need £150 for a deposit for my University accommodation soon, and given that the cheapest rail tickets I can find down to Birmingham are the same as accommodation and paying for the actual event.. it's adding up a bit.

I'll have to take a look at my finances on Friday. I do really want to come, so I'll let you know for sure then.

Hope to see you there. Let me know what you get sorted and if there's any way I can help.

For those concerned by the price of national rail travel, and/or accomodation on site, I would suggest checking National Express Coaches' prices to Digbeth, and some of the alternate accomodation mentioned on the PaizoCon UK website, which includes the Birmingham Central Backpackers hostel at the cheap end of the market.

Please book soon!

Edit:
Not sure whether or not domestic 'no frills' air flights operate to Birmingham international airport or not, but there is a convenient and regular local train service from Birmingham international to the city centre. (Unless dreaded engineering works hit, in which case usually there is a slightly slower but regular replacement bus service.)

50..yes only 50,days to PaizoCon UK

Down to less than seven weeks!

The Exchange

I'm running the first slot zero games for PaizoCon UK today for some of the GMs. Does that count as it starting?

Yes so long as there is blood spilled!

But believe me he tried his best. Just wait until you lot meet the ... uuuurglegahgurgle aaargh!

Rumours of my absence have been greatly exaggerated. The cheque's in the mail, Wintergreen. Found a cheaper way to get there and get some accommodation, so it should be good.

(I also think I may have sent you two E-mails about it.)

Yep, got both emails (and replied to one).

See you there.
And a reminder to everybody else to get their booking in asap.

I know that Dabbler should be sending his booking in this week sometime.I guess I'd better start working on my character background

Just got Grandparents to arrange for childminding, and accommodation(possibly) to sort, hopefully cheque will be in the post by the end of the week!

So, anything planned for the Sunday night? If it's not a curry binge, then maybe we could play a non D&D game, or even a board game? Or do we have to leave the premises at 6pm on the Sunday?

I hope to have the curry binge on Friday night.

We should have the room until 10 or 11pm on the Sunday night. So depending on who will still be around, we could do something.

The Exchange

I will be sending out the main scenarios to our PaizoCon UK GMs at the end of this week. If there are older scenarios people want to play then do post on our forum so we can arrange for GMs to run them.

Counting down to the end of May and booking closing...
4 days left.

Crap; didn't realise there was a deadline so close.
I've already got the pink pass from the wife. Time to check if the babysitters will be home, and if I need accomodation.

The Exchange

Are the scenarios and their slots up on the website yet?

The main scenarios are up. I'm still waiting for people to nominate any older scenarios they want to play. Nic Logue wants to run Mists of Mwangi and Nick and Richard Pett are working on a special game.

Main games timetable is looking like this.

1 (Sat 9am-1pm) Perils of the Pirate Pact
2 (Sat 2pm-6pm The Asmodeus Mirage
3 (Sat 7pm-11pm) The Decline of Glory
4 (Sun 9am-1pm) Skeleton Moon
5 (Sun 7pm-11pm) To Scale the Dragon

Do check the website for regular updates.

Access by car from Spaghetti Junction is very easy (except during week-day rush-hours or if there is heavy duty road maintenance going on). Practically five minutes (if that) down the Aston Expressway to the edge of the city centre and the Campus.

Edit:
The actual 'heading into the city centre' side of the Expressway is usually clear during the afternoon rush-hour, since everyone is heading out of the city centre home at that point, but be prepared for possible contraflow on adjacent motorways.

The Exchange

Just to point out an error in my last post. Slot 5 is actually 2pm to 6pm.

Just a quick question - how fixed is the character class that we put on our booking sheet? I put down Fighter as I created my PFS ages agao but never got round to playing him.

Since then I have been playing a Fighter in my weekly Pathfinder Beta game and as such (if I get time to create a new character) I thought it might be nice to try a Druid instead (never played one or seen one played).

I will bring my fighter along anyway in case I need to stick with my choice, but will hopefully be bringing a Druid as well.

Cheers!

For details of roadworks, on the motorway network, over 10th-13th July (some people may be arriving Friday and/or leaving Monday), it might be worth digging around on the highways agency website: *link*
If you click on the right things, it seems to be possible to bring up a motorway network map which indicates future planned roadworks.
I've experimented a bit, but don't want to give a more specific link as I'm not sure how often they update their site and move things around, and don't want to give a link which will be broken in amonth's time.
At present there doesn't seem to be much scheduled for the M6 around Birmingham for the middle of July.

We are just using the character class to make sure we don't get a table full of fighters and a table full of clerics etc. We can change what class we have you down as playing easily enough at this stage. So I'll change it to a druid if you want.

All odds and ends tied up. Her Indoors pacified. Booking form filled out. Cheque book at home! Damn IT!

Cheque will be in post tomorrow...

If you could - it will make sure I am motivated to create the character! Cheers!

Done.

Six weekends to go.
Weather report from Birmingham today: Warm and Sunny.

Curious quirk:
'Local Service' trains to/from Nottingham at Birmingham New Street appear to make a habit of using Platform 12 at the north end of the station - the platform with only one staircase and no escalator up from it. (Although I think it does have a lift for disabled access tucked away somewhere...)

Update:
For those still seeking for something to entertain a significant other whilst the convention is on, there is a Food Festival in Cannon Hill Park from the 9th-12th July, perhaps a fifteen minute bus ride from the city centre. *Link to 'Taste of Birmingham' website*

Scarab Sages

The weekend is free for me, but I check the site and find there's no way to send you an electronic payment.

If I send a cheque, it should get to you Tuesday.
Is that still OK?
I'm assuming there are still places available?

The venue is being quite flexible about numbers, so there are more places available. But bookings need to be made asap.

Are we going to get name badges?...if so it might be an idea to include our Board handles on them.

Might save lots of, "so who are you?" :)

That's all part of the fun though?

At present I'm not planning for badges for everybody as we are trying to keep costs down. PaizoCon UK is funded purely by the bookings and I've tried to keep the cost down to a minimum. Of course, you're free to create your own badges.

The Exchange

If it helps, I'll be the slightly portly one, probably in a black t-shirt.

Hmm. I think I might still have my clear plastic conference badge holder from GenConUK last year somewhere...

Edit:
Yes - the advantages of being someone who seldom throws anything remotely 'nostalgic' away. :) Now all that I need is a badge to go in it...

I never said it was a *good* idea! :)

I'm sure that will narrow it down....I will be the one with a beard...

I'll be the one looking harassed and 'herding cats'...

Well at least we would know what the guests would look like if at least one of them weren't a thespian (and presumed master of disguise)... :)

Meaw!

The Exchange

Just to let everybody know, we have got the go ahead from the venue to have a few more people in the room and we've got plenty of volunteer GMs so despite the initial May 31st deadline I can now extend bookings.

And just to tempt you some more:

The Living Colossus of the Chakravatin

By Nicholas Logue and Richard Pett

The corridor stretched ahead and behind, up over a curve and out of sight. The only thing we were aware of was the noise – the noise of the approaching juggernauts, whose iron wheels grated upon the stones, whose rusting bodies were arrayed with bars and hooks and needles, and under whose crushing wheels our deaths lay….

Two of Paizo’s most twisted minds have joined together (under great duress), to write a special Golarion adventure for Paizo Con UK 2009.
Join them in the Living Colossus of the Chakravatin – a twisted living iron dungeon seething in the Vudran Jungles.
Two groups of adventurers are pitted against each other in a race against time to come out alive from the Belly of the Beast, the fabled soul of the living dungeon itself!

An 8th level adventure based upon the world’s most popular role-playing game to be held on the afternoons of Saturday 10th July and Sunday 11th July 2009. Book early, maximum of 12 players per session.

Thanks for the post. I'll contact the Gloucester lot again.

The Exchange

Slot 5 will be specifically for higher level play (5th level +) and for playing some of the earlier scenarios (as far back as Silent Tide, Murder on the Silken Caravan) so if you've got a scenario you are eager to play then do let me know via our website or the forums.

Weather currently in Birmingham:
Cool and damp, in complete contrast to last weekend.

The Exchange

I know the US PaizoCon is happening soon and that's getting all the attention but I thought I would give a shout out to the UK Paizo fans.

Last few places are available for PaizoCon UK.
And if you have any preferences for one of the older scenarios to play in the last slot on Sunday then do let me know, either via the website forum or by email to me paizoconuk@hotmail.com.
