Plus, if you created a Politics section, you'd have to create another section for Canadian Politics, cause we're such fascinating neighbours, and that, of course, would lead to your Quebec customers demanding another section separate from the Canadian one because of their distinctiveness.
I can see the thread title now:
"Poutine Trade Restraint Laws: Oui ou Non?"

I suspect that eventually this will become obvious as a good move. I further suspect that the politicos may be temporarily laying low due to recent backlash.
There was a backlash? I hadn't noticed. ;p Seriously though, I can speak for anyone else, but for my part, I haven't really seen anything worth commenting on. Besides, with the Super Bowl last week and the Daytona 500 next week, I have had much more important things to worry about. The easist way to deal with political threads if you don't like them is to just ignore them. Nobody is forcing you to read them.

You're just jealous because your governor general has never prorogued your parliament.

I haven't been reading the off-topic forums much lately (I've been busy with this other thing) but usually I'm drawn to the political debates. Over the past year or so that I've been hanging out at Paizo I've encountered a lot of political arguments that seemed very conservative, very American, and, to my surprise, very intelligent. I say 'to my surprise' because that ran against my biases. I hope we can continue to have a place for politics because I like hearing the arguments of those I (respectfully) disagree with, particularly when they are made by thoughtful, articulate members of this community. I don't care where it is ... just as long as it is on Paizo.

And zombies. Don't forget zombies! We need our own section as well.
*sighs* Ok... "Politics, Religion, Sports, and Zombies"... still, that name doesn't roll off the tongue so well, and it's been a while since I've last witnessed a heated discussion on the advantages of breeding Drowned Ones versus just using the regular zombie as an "all-terrain undead."

Not to spoil anyone's fun, but I am against a dedicated political section on the boards for several reasons:
- it really has nothing at all to do with Paizo, Paizo products, gaming or other hobby-related topics.
- It quickly becomes a hotbed to attract the more, say, competitive posters. Think the 4th Edition board was a flamefest? Wait until you hear people talking about "really important issues!!!!"
- I think the political threads do not need a board of their own. They do not overcrowd off-topic, where they belong, and while there is a certain regularity of them, I think OT handles that volume quite well.
But they are doing it anyway. We could just ignore them over there and get on with the gaming...

I started this thread because in the last month I found myself not wanting to come and read the paizo boards anymore, because of all the politics. I worried others may have been doing the same.
See this is what I don't understand. Even if there is a seperate Politics section, political discussion will still be here. If you find yourself not wanting to come to the Paizo boards at all because of the political discussion in one section, how is that going to change with a seperate politics board. As I said the discussion will still be here.

The politics are stepping on the 'Off Topic' topics. Can you make a Politics Section?
The Goblin choir Agrees! We need a soapbox where we can discuss the election of the new Mayor of Sandpoint and how it will be better if everyone votes for the Red Flag Candidate on account of their need to prove their loyalty to the new regime...

actually I think having subsections in the OTD boards for cults and politics may not be such a bad idea. Then sports also, just have those three subsections and your normal OTD miscellaneous section and the OTD boards would be better off (I know I could shut out the sports section and only look at it at say superbowl time) Actually sports should be moved to the Gamer life section. (yes I know to some of you sports as a part of gamer life is an anethma, but some people play and follow sports "while" playing D&D too)

If you start chopping the off-topic section up into pieces you create more (sub?) forums which take attention away from the store and RPG sections of the boards.
I do not know if that is a Sensible Thing to do.
I agree, once you start dividing the Off Topic board into topics you violate the spirit of the thing. Also, where does it stop? I understand that some people don't care for political discussion, but I still don't see how putting it in a seperate section is going to change anything. The subject will still be there. In parting just remember this. Even though you are not interested in politics, politics is still interested in you.

Yeah, I noticed that politics seemed interested in me, but after going out a few times, I realized politics only liked me for my money. That, and to see what would push my buttons. It just didn't seem like the relationship was going anywhere.

I have a different proposal; change the off topic forum to a link to rpg.net's Tangency forum and then we don't have to clutter up a decent roleplaying company forum with all that nonsense at all.
YEAH!! Damn those off-topic "people" and there sillyness. It's not like they actually purchase stuff from Paizo, not like they've been loyal customers for years. Hell, I bet even the Paizo staff don't sully themselves by posting there.....
And, while we're at it, let's ban half-orcs as well. They're grouchy...

A FAWTLy thread be deleted? HA!

Deleting a FAWTLy thread might cause the spontaneous generation of a black hole, which would quickly encompass the earth and the rest of the solar system.
We're going to continue reorganizing some of our forums over the next few days, but we won't be making a special politics section. As has been pointed, declaring that "here there be discussions guaranteed to raise someone's GRAR," is not how we'd like to run our messageboards. Giving people a place to have off-topic conversations is quite enough.

Then there will not be a politics area because paizo is afraid of it, and afraid of raising someone's GRAR. You'll just continue to let that happen in Off Topic were you can pretend to ignore it.
Way to let fear make decisions for you. But don't worry, you are not alone in that way of operating.

I think that's an unfair characterization of our position. People get fighty in politics threads -- that can't be helped. It's just the way it is. A politics section may as well have a big sign hanging out front saying, "Get Angry Here."
It's not so much fear as it is recognizing that the architecture of a space helps define how that space will be used. Perhaps it might be more useful to think of a politics section as an attractive nuisance that we've decided we'd be better off without.

Better yet, provide a link to the GAT forums and sit back to watch peoples heads 'asplode. :^D
Seriously. If you want to talk politics with gamers, go to Circvs Maximvs which is an off shoot of ENWorld. Politics, religion, whatever topic your little heart desires to talk about is 'on topic' there.
I actually haven't visited in some time, I'll have to remedy that.
