"Oh, sure you ain't in cahoots with 'em. Just like all those disappearances lately. You prolly ain't got a thing to do with them, neither, huh? Sarge, can we arrest this guy, teach 'em a lesson or two? Put 'im in the stocks, maybe indenture 'im for a bit?" The guard says as he is watching Feli intently.

Moonpate:

Spoiler:
No, it is the guard harassing Feli, as well as the one standing next to him.

Borden and Dreav:

Spoiler:
The perception you both have, with a little bit of horror in the realization, is that the two guards nearest Feli, are two of the thugs from the other night. The one doing most of the talking is one of them, and the other is to his left.

Borden and Ky'sstaa:

Spoiler:
It looks like the guards are maneuvering themselves for an arrest.

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

For DM:

Spoiler:
Remembering the last incident with these Fools, Moonpate quickly scans the crowd and rooftops to see if any suspicious types are also watching the incident intently. Last time these thugs were not alone.
Perception Roll if needed: 1d20+2=11

Male Human Bard 3

"Arrest me? Sirs you are making an honest mistake here!"

Feli focusses on the sergeant:

"I have nothing to do with the disappearings. Although I'm sure you have some fine men here they're really mistaken."

diplomacy?

Spoiler:

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male

"Naw, Sarge'll tell us if'n we're making a mistake. I'm sure we can take care of this down at the pillory for you. You could, I'm sure, find someone to pay your fine for you... or you could work it off, too." The guard says with a sneer.
"You got a pretty face, I'm sure someone'd take you in right nice."
He then pats you on the cheek. At this point Feli realizes that he's surrounded by the guards. They don't look as if they are going to let him go.

Feli:

Spoiler:
I hate to say it, but these guards started out Hostile... not enough to get them to stop harassing you.

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

For DM:

Spoiler:
Well, the situation looks grim for our heroes, and realizing that Borden, Khysstaa, and Dreav can't do anything without compromising their "cover", nor can we discuss a plan, Moonpate takes a deep breath and hopes this works--that is if he did not notice any other enemies on the rooftops or such per my previous post.
Moonpate will cast color spray on the soldiers, knowing that Feli will also be caught in the cone. He will also yell "Fog!", hoping Dreav will catch the clue to release an obscuring mist to aid our getaway. The idea is to disable the guards, grab Feli if he is also disabled, and get out of Dodge. Depending upon the results, might also consider doing something to the two thugs that I recognized.
Let me know if I need to make a roll, or use a Fate point/Hero point/Action Point (forget what they are called) to realize this plan is completely foolish and not do it.

Male

As two of the guardsmen are reaching for Feli, a muttering of words and a flash of blinding, scintillating light comes across the guards, with the 4 rankers lying on the ground, unconscious, and the Sargeant seems both blinded and stunned by this turn of events.

"Fog!" yells Moonpate across the street from the rest of the party.

Feli needs to make a DC 14 Will save.

Anyone who wants to may make a spellcraft check to know the spell.

Moonpate:

Spoiler:
Wow. Didn't see this coming at all. Yes, you can hit all of them, including poor Feli in the color spray. And no, you didn't see any of them on the rooftops (you got a +2 circumstance being specific like that)

Unconscious guards time:
2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Unconscious Guards blinded and Stunned time:
1d4 ⇒ 2
Unconscious Guards stunned time: +1 Round

Sergeant Blinded and Stunned time:
1d4 ⇒ 3
Then stunned for one additional round.

Yes, they ALL failed their saves. Horrible luck on my dice's part :( Oh well, it means good fortune for the party. Tymora must've smiled upon you.

Male Human Ranger 1

Having had enough of the fake guards manner, Borden, still in character, decides to step in and says in a thick Calim accent, "Excuse me sirs, but why are you harassing this man?"

Borden Alhurst wrote:

The Sargeant goes "Who goes there?" Obviously stunned by the spell, he doesn't even seem to see Borden.

Borden:

Spoiler:
Sadly, Moonpate's spell has gone off by this point...

Male Human (Tashalan) Cleric 1/Sorcerer 1

Hearing Moonpate's request, Dreav begins muttering under his breath.
Cast obscuring mist and then darting into the nearest ally.
Spellcraft on spell:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Male Human Bard 3

Feli is shocked as it suddenly becomes clear to him the guards are really out to get him. Not accustomed to his charms not working Feli feels despair growing but then is caught in a bright flash.

DM:

will save
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
ooh failed

k.o.:2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
blinded and stunned: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Male Human Ranger 1

Still a little unsure as to what was going on, all he knew was that these "guards"weren't gonna be too happy when they snapped out of whatever it was that gripped them. Switching back to his own voice, he says "Follow me!" as he grabs Feli by the arm and starts to guide him down the street at a slightly brisk pace until they get far enough away to make slowing down a safe option. Borden will head in the opposite direction of the tavern they have been staying in to make it more difficult for the guards to track them once they snap out of they magically induced haze.

Male

The encounter with the guards goes uneventful, as the street was relatively empty, except for a few vendor, most of whom are laughing out loud at the unconscious guards, as well as the sight of the Calishite merchant dragging poor, unconscious Feli by his collar down the street.

Where to, folks? You all did marvelously with the guards, by the way. 150xp for everyone

The Missed XP:

Spoiler:
Looking at what I had missed (the city encounter). You all received 200 XP for that, as well. Sorry for the delay in the calculation, it took me a bit.

Male Human Bard 3

I don't know! I'm in no condition to be of any influence hehe. Good job though, go team adventurers

Male Human (Tashalan) Cleric 1/Sorcerer 1

After meeting up with his companions away from the commotion, Dreav turns to his companions, "I believe it is time to go back to the locksmith. The business is to be closed all day. Changing disguises would be best but it seems unlikely to work if those fine gentlemen of the law are around."

Male Human Ranger 1

After meeting up with the rest of the group, Borden will backtrack to the tavern they visited earlier in the day. As they moved, Borden responds to Dreav's idea with. "I don't think that'll be possible. Some of those guards were part of the group who was attacking the priest we saved. For sure, they will keep an eye on the shop." Then, as if remembering something, Borden sorts through his pouches, removing the "list" which he had made in the locksmith's shop. Reading what was written, Borden then says, "Keygan said we could return to the shop at night, when he was away at the tavern. Then we can take the time we need to find out not only what is keeping tabs on the gnome, but also we should be able to find the entrance to this Jzadirune that the divination had mentioned."

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

My apologies Feli, if'n my spell caused any discomfort. The scene looked grim and I could'na wait fer it ta get worse. Fortune seemed ta favor us in escapin', tha I must confess I wish I could've done more ta those two villians. I have a feelin' tha I'll get me chance again. Tis no surprise that these Fools are part of the guard. Ya dunna steal children and beat on priests so brazenly if ya don't feel protected from on high. We'll do good ta keep changin' disguises, includin' ya, friend Kysstaa. Me thinks ya stand out a wee bit. If'n Dreav or I canna conjure a fair ruse, we should git some scrolls that will do the job. Mayhaps the Helm priests can help with that.
Borden, it sounds like ya did good with the locksmith an we should continue to move quick on this.

Male Human Bard 3

"It's okay Moonpate, I don't mind taking one for the team but I'm also quite surprised at the effectiveness of your magic. How wonderful it also didn't do any permanent damage.

"Indeed lad", Moonpate wryly chuckles out. "Just ya wait 'till I learn the arcane secrets of elemental destruction. I'll try not ta toast ya too much then.

The evening comes without much fanfare throughout the city. The city's night life is quiet this fine evening, with few of the bars and houses of ill-repute being set for the eve.

Coming down Ash Avenue, the quiet street market that ran along the street is gone, leaving nothing but empty stalls, and dark storefronts. There are no lights on at the locksmiths' business.

How does everyone want to enter? There is no back door, only the front.

Male

Moonpate and Dreav:

Spoiler:
Take a look at the discussion thread, there are spells in a spellbook there if you'd like.

Male Human Ranger 1

First spending a few minutes scoping the place, to ensure no one else is watching, Borden then says to the others, "Keep your eyes open guys, I'll go check the door."

With that, Borden will casually approach the front door of the locksmith's shop. Though he seems to approach nonchalantly, he keeps his keen senses looking for anything that might be out of place. Once he arrives, he'll check the door to see if Keygan was telling the truth and left it unlocked.

Male

Let's be fair then, and everyone, including Borden, roll a perception check.

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

Moonpate Perception Roll:

Spoiler:

crap! must be that spell moonpate cast on me earlier....

Male

The street, while dark, has no one that is obvious to the eye. The door, as Ghelve said, is unlocked. The shop is dark, except for the fireplace along the wall. There is an ingenious screen preventing any cinders from going into the room, definitely not something you see every day in this region.

The main counter, with a step up to it, so that Ghelve can see eye to eye with larger creatures is there, and the curtain is drawn from the back room. There isn't any other sound, other than the sound of the crackling fire.

As the party "stealthily" makes its way into the shop, and just as you close the door, you hear the sounds of chainmail along the street. A few moments longer, and you would have been seen by the guards.

The fire is warm, and the room is comfortable.

So, who wants to go first through the curtain?

Male Human Ranger 1

Now all huddled near the closed door of the shop, Borden does some quick thinking. Remembering what Keygan said about the one watching him being hard to see, Borden whispers to the group, "Ok, I'll do a bit of scouting to see what I can find, but follow a little behind me." With that, Borden quietly moves to the shadows of the shop and slowly works his way towards the curtain to the back room. Silently drawing his blade as he moves, he will use the blade to part the curtain just enough to get a peek into the back room to see if he can spot the mysterious watcher.

Stealth:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Male

Borden:

Parting the curtain brings you into a curious room. Directly to your right, there is a second workbench, but straight ahead appears to be Ghelve's pantry. There is bread and cheese lying about, and a small pallet, for something small (perhaps mouse or rat-sized).

Ahead of you, you see a u-turn for stairs, as the stairs are easy enough to see. The ceiling is high here, likely that there is a loft-space from above, which you confirm as you walk towards the back of the room. Looking up to the loft, it appears to be mainly decorative, with a pair of rooms upstairs, and a lavatory directly out beside the bottom of the stairwell.

I'll need another sneak and perception check, Borden. Also, where is everyone else standing at the moment?

Male Human Bard 3

Feli nods in approval to Borden as he puts an arrow in his bow. He follows Borden to the curtain and waits there.

Male Human Ranger 1

Scanning the dark room, Borden's elven eyes slowly adjust, picking up the small amount of light and using it to get a good layout of the room. Remembering to stay hidden, the half-elf does what he can to find anything out of the ordinary.

Stealth:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

Moonpate activates Mage Armor from his bonded item (3 hour duration), AC:16 now. With crossbow in hand he will stand to the side of Feli and wait.

Knowing full well how ponderous and loud his footfalls are, Kyssta stays put where he is, behind Moonpate.

Male

Check the OOC thread. Update characters and let me know when you are all ready there. I'll be posting tomorrow night. You are all behind on treasure, but that will soon be remedied.

Male

After searching the whole lower level of the shop, Borden has swept across everything, and has not found any sign of the other expected intruder. The only place left to find the intruder is the upstairs.

Male Human Ranger 1

Signaling to his teammates, Borden points upstairs as he stealthily makes his way to the stairs leading up to the next level of the workshop.

His serpentine tongue darting excitedly, Kyssta slinks after Borden up the stairs. Unfortunately for Kyssta and his friends, stealth is one lizardfolk trait he missed out on in the lizard-nest.

Stealth 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

Moonpate will stay at the bottom of the stairs, ready for action.

Male Human Bard 3

Feli follows Kysstaa and Borden with his bow drawn feeling confident in his close combat archery skills

Male

I hate when this happens

From out of the corner at the top of the stairs, a shimmering, translucent being lashes out at Borden. He stabs deeply, leaving a gash in Borden's stomach bleeding profusely. The creature then wheels back, watching for any of you to come up to strike, or if you are holding back. It also begins to speak, although the language is quite strange.

Borden takes 10 points of damage from the rapier wound. Initiative Time!

Those who understand Undercommon:

Spoiler:
"Leave this place now, lest your lives become forfeit!"

Male Human Ranger 1

Screaming in pain and surprise, Borden grips his stomach as he brings his sword to the defense.

Initiative:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Not understanding the garbled tongue of this creature, nor caring, Borden readies to strike if the creature approaches once more.

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

"Borden, get down here! Dreav, tend to his wounds fast!"
Armed with his wand of magic missiles, shielded by Mage Armor, Moonpate will get up the stairs just far enough for to catch sight of the foe and use the wand.

DM: Have we lost Dreav. Hasn't posted in a long time.

"Vvillain!" hisses Kyssta, who invokes his god's blessing as stomps up the stairs to swing at the strange creature.

OOC:

I give him until Sunday, then I go recruiting a cleric. Until that point, we'll work with it.

Male Human Bard 3

Sorry for being slow to reply, I forgot to update Feli's profile so I had to do it over.

Initiative1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Feli is shocked by the vicious attack on Borden but quickly recovers his wits and shoots his bow with precision at the creature.

Attack point blank and precise shot & dmg 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Male

Dreav moves up the stairs, squeezing near Kyssta and Borden, rushing much needed healing into Borden's wounds "By the mists...May the mists guide you... by the mists."
Dreav casts Cure Light Wounds.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The swing by Ky'sstaa goes wild, as does the shot from Feli.

Feli: The target has half cover, plus is in combat... hard shot.
Ky'sstaa: You are level 3, and I modified your attack accordingly, and you still missed.

Moonpate: If you want to keep using the wand, go ahead and roll damage. (this and next round if you use it again).

Male

All:

Spoiler:
Dreav is missing. We will finish this combat with him, which should allow me to recruit another player.

Male Human Wizard Level 8 - Conjurer

Magic Missile Shot 1 Damage:1d4+1=4

Initiative for Round 2: 1d20+2=18

Magic Missile Shot 2 Damage: 1d4+1=5

Male Human Bard 3

We're using our level 3 characters now right? I got Precise Shot for Feli as his last feat so no -4 for in combat. Still a hard shot and worth a try :)
Oh Moonpate, initiative is for entire encounter, no need to roll again.. right?

Feli will shoot again.
