The fact that they didn't post the total makes me think it was kind of small so they didn't want to post the "bad news".

Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm really curious. Of course they could just make up a number and none of us would be the wiser and in the end I guess it doesn't really matter.

You may be right. After last years 800+ entries anything less looks 'bad' even though the quality may be up.
