Okay here's where we discuss the details for the game to be set in the next section.

So to rehash whats been written so far;

What I'd like to run is a 0th level game so that starting characters choose their classes from the npc classes at the start with an opening adventure set near Falcons Hollow in Andorra.

The backdrop is that the hamlet its based in is located on the trade route from Falcons Hollow and it has been beset by raids led by an Ogre accompanied by a band of goblins.

Their requests for aid from the Lumber Consortium have been turned down with no reason for the refusal so they have approached a low level member of the Eagle Knights for aid and following the latest raid she has posted a reward of 100gp per party member for the safe rescue of a pair of locals whom were kidnapped in that raid with the addendum that anything found belongs to the group as long as they make a report and show what was found to the Eagle Knight so she can complete a report on the matter.

However the only ones to step forward are a group of neophyte adventurer wannabe's who see this as their chance to become what they've always dreamed.

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Hopeless , you need to say in the connection forum which player tou selected
I hope to play an aristocrat but i'm waiting for final player selection to create him

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

Here is Talden Skard, a half-elf warrior.

My idea here is that he is not really a half-elf so much as fey marked. His mother Tanasia was a wandering Varisian woman who worshipped the fey. She married Byron Skard, a local carpenter of good reputation, and used her skills with animals and herbs to benefit the community. When she became pregnant, because of her devotion, the fey blessed her and her child and Talden was born with the mark of the fey. As he grew it became evident that he was more than just human and became shunned not only by the community but by his father as well. Though Byron did not cast them both out, for it would have been evil in his eyes, he treated them as little more than permanent guests in his house.

Talden never knew his father's love and even when working in his father's wood shop learning the skills of a carpenter he was only referred to as 'boy'. Talden has spent most of his life trying to prove his worth to his father and community and when the need for militiaman to protect and police the town Talden volunteered hoping that protecting the village from outside threats would gain him favor and acceptance. Thus Talden has spent the last several years working to improve his skill at arms and to prove that he is a valuable member of the community.

And here's Brallin of the Tamiir-Quah. Well, here's his avatar, anyway.

Working on stats and backstory now; basically, was marked from birth to be one of the tribe's shamans. He would rather be a great and proud warrior, than one who dabbles with strange rituals and words. He refuses to believe that the magic in his blood is inescapable, and so he has turned his back on his tribe, to prove to (himself, mostly) that he can evade his destiny.

It's not working out for him, however, as his magical and spiritual training is all he knows, and it's what he keeps going back to in times of desperation. And there have been many, since he left his Quah.

Mechanically, a Human Shoanti Adept with the Sacred Touch trait.

M Human

I have a couple of questions for making my character.

Are we assuming max gold for buying starting equipment?
What system are going to use to calculate HITPOINTS?

What are we doing about 'favoured class'? It's something that humans choose at 1st level, and stick with. Considering we're not really starting at 1st level, I was wondering if you would be more lenient, and let me choose it later.

Aaron Whitley wrote:

Yes for the max gold and start off at max hp for both 0th level along with 1st level with every level beyond this being half the die rolled+1 (so +3hp/level for d4, +4hp for d6, +5hp for d8 and so on).

Brallin wrote:

I am treating npc classes as not counting for purposes of multi-classing so no problem

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

There all done ( hoping there is no mistakes)

'Citizens , let's hope that the rest of our company will arrive soon so we can eradicate the threat posed by this vile Ogre once and for all '

Right increased the number to 7 so that includes;

Herve d'Esterel: Taldan Aristocrat,
Talden Skard: Half elven Warrior
Brallin: Human Shoanti Adept
Tenna Milcress: Chelish Commoner

and awaiting replies from three others which are currently;

Dax Thura
Khaladon
and
Rimrock

Once they reach a decision we'll get the game started now any questions you want to ask either regarding the game or any other details you think might pose a problem?

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

Would you be able to give us the name of the hamlet, and some general background information? How many people? What races are common? Any notable characters, features, locations, etc. would be good to know. Where in Varisia is it located?

Some information:

Waypoint (also known as Waypoint Station a Hamlet sized settlement): Conventional; AL: N; 100gp limit; Assets 2000gp; Population: 226; Mixed (79% Human, 9% Halfling, 3% Half Elf, 3% Dwarf, 2% Gnome, 1% Elf, 1% Half Orc, 2% Other)
Authority Figures: Lord Merric Ducal (hm Aristocrat 4th, Mayor)
Notable NPCs: Nagina Bala’Datha (Eagle Knight Novice, Vudrani hf Com/Ftr 1st/2nd), Erwin Keller (hm Exp3rd, Station Keeper), Bertram Weatherfield (1/2m Rog 1st, owner of Waypoint Station Tavern), Ella Sherylyn (1/2ef Dr 2nd), Old Carter (hm Ftr 3rd, Town Guard).
Militia: 5x hm War 1st and 7x hm Com 1st with a further 15x War 1st mainly on patrols or operating as guards on the Waypoint on various caravans coming through on their way either to Olfden or Falcon’s Hollow.
Brief: Waypoint Station was literally a waystation based between Falcons Hollow and the nearest Tower of the Eagle Knights that patrol the area, since Andoran’s liberation its importance has waxed and waned depending on how much the merchants desired a place to rest that was reasonably protected however the Lumber Consortium has been trying for years to secure the various waystations on the route between Olfden and Falcon’s Hollow to further increase their hold over the trade route.
Recent reinforcement of the hamlet has revealed a number of alarming events that have been deliberately kept quiet by the Consortium who don’t want a permanent Eagle Knight presence in any of their waystations and Waypoint seems important to someone else as the recent raid by an Ogre and his pack of goblins can attest to.

Hopefully listed below is a link to a folder which includea map indicating where Waypoint is located in relation to Falcon's Hollow.

Waypoint is one of a number of waystations located between Falcon's Hollow and Olfden used by merchant caravans as resting places between travelling into this area.

There are patrols of Eagle Knights but few stay for long at any of these waystations however a raid by an Ogre and a pack of goblins that resulted in the kidnapping of a pair of locals was witnessed by a novice Eagle Knight whom has arranged the reward in return for the safe return of the kidnapped locals and also to investigate exactly what is really going on as evidence is quite clear that these raids are an ongoing problem the Lumber Consortium has deliberately kept quiet.

The settlement is pretty much grew out of the original compound developing away from the road so they could develop farms and more buildings to cope with the slowly growing population whom are mostly unwilling to either move closer to somewhere better protected or have their own reasons for staying.

Herve d'Esterel awaiting rest of character sheet when you're ready

Talden Skard: Absolutely fine

Brallin: Although favoured class doesn't effect npc classes you do get the choice of either a bonus hp or a bonus skill pt.

Willard: Same as Brallin

Tenna Milcress: Your reflex I believe is +5 and Survival is +7 thanks to the trait, also get the same bonus to add as Brallin and Willard.

Just waiting on Dax Thura and Khaladon so in the mean time have a look at the opening message in the game thread

No skills showing, feats and so on?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
I hate this forum , sob .

Fixed it and ready!

Ok, I'll take the extra HP then.

I'm all sorted out too, except for some miscellaneous starting equipment.

To Herve d'Esterel

Courtier outfit weighs 6lb not 60lbs
Melee is +3 not -3 to hit
Favoured class doesn't include npc classes however you still retain the +1 hp for a starting character though.

Forgot to ask what trait was selected for Herve?

To Tenna Milcress

I'd suggest dropping half of the sling bullets to reduce your encumberance from 51.58lbs to 46.58lbs, however by my count you have 7 gold and 6 silver if you do this or 5 silver if you don't.

By the way you have a bonus language to select.
By the way which simple weapon are you proficient in?

OK! This is Khaladon. So sorry for the delay! Here's old Bogorin checking in.

Briefly- He's an old dwarvin ex-cleric who several years ago had a severe test of faith that he apparently failed miserably. He has never spoken to anyone of what it was though there have been several rumours, some more colourful than others, drifting through the town for years. Since then he has allowed the Drink to take him and he is now merely a shell of his former self. While not quite known as the town drunk as his former deeds do still grant him a modicum of respect he is nevertheless a permanent fixture at Bertram's tavern. He is known by pretty much all of the town's residents. Although normally particularly grim and taciturn even for a dwarf, when deep in his cups he becomes garrelous and will often ramble on for hours about many of his past deeds. Most of the tavern patrons find his stories entertaining even though they know that the majority of them couldn't possibly be true. In general, he is pitied and seen as a harmless old dwarf.

When he first hears of the raid he was sleeping off a drunk in a corner of the tavern. His first reaction is shock as apparently he slept through the whole thing! But when he finds out the Dale was one of the kidnapped suddenly something he hadn't felt for years is inspired within him. The serving lass had always been kind to him. She was also one of the few who didn't condescend to him when she spoke to him and he looked on her as a sort of daughter. Bogorin had never much cared for that conniving Gnome but he surely deserved better than to end up in an Ogre's stew pot. When the rumors began to spread that his good friend the blacksmith was missing too that simply cemented what he had already decided.

The old Dwarf rushes around gathering what equipment he has left, trying to fit his much bigger belly into his old armor. Maybe This can the chance to finally redeem himself. And whatever the cost, he will see Dale safe and returned home. Plus, with the raid no more supplies have been coming in and Bertram's stocks of ale have been getting dangerously low.

He'll be completed today.

I forgot the trait, classically schooled seem the best choice

About the favoured class , I intend to continue the character as a full aristocrat . I see the aristocrat as a social fighter not a fighter with feats . If I can, I would like to keep this class as favoured since no other PC class has this combination of skills

Hopeless, Bogorin's done (was done a few days ago actually but I've been having net connection problems)

Please check him over that everything is correct and meets your approval.

Looking forward to this unique adventure! :)

Soooo, does the old dwarf all check out??

Khaladon wrote:

Looks fine however that helmet will only provide that AC bonus against head shots or Large sized or even bigger foes.

Hit points wise warrior has a d10 hd and toughness grants a base +3hp plus an additional hp per level including the npc class.

Out of curiosity did you want the +1 skill point or +1hp for a starting character?

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

That works for me with the Helmet. thanks. (how will I know when it's a head shot though?)

as for the HP, I had listed my preferences here in this line:
Maximum HP: 11 =+ 8(Dwarf) +3(Toughness)+1 (Bonus)-1(Chr)

But do you mean he gets another 10HP for his class level? So a total of 21HP?

Heh, sorry if Bogorin's feeling ignored. Tenna's scared to get in the middle of it. ;)

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Oh no worries Val, thanks for noticing lol.

But poor old Bogo's all out of sorts. He's deathly afraid for his dear Dale, he's having a terrible hangover and this is the longest he's been sober in Years. Plus, you know, he Is a Dwarf. So expect the grumpiness to continue for sometime...if not indefinitely ;-)

M Human

Ahhhh the grumpiness is great. I love having to decipher what Bogorin is saying since it is actually like talking to a real drunk person. This should be fun all around.

Nope his base HD is d10 not d8 so that should be 10 (base HD for a warrior)+3 (Toughness) +1 (Warrior 1st) -1 (Con penalty) for a total of 13hp.

Head shots depend on whom you're fighting, am looking at the critical hits and fumbles decks to make that part easier but for now I'll decide where you get hit and yes there is a chance of getting hit in the head in some cases...

Isn't Toughness +4 (+3, +1 per Hit Dice)?

Rimrock wrote:

Yes it does and thats why I indicated it as +1 (Warrior 1st) to avoid confusion, oh well...

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Ah, my Bad, for some reason I had itin my head that we were using racial HP. You asked before whether I was taking the bonus HP or Skill Point; I am talking the HP so I guess that makes it a total of 14, yes?

and everything you said about helmet's and critical is great, thanks.

and Aaron, lol, glad you like the effect. It's even harder to write than to read it I think1 :P

(If anyone does get tired of it though, please just lemme know and I'll tone it down :) )

Khaladon wrote:

The grumpiness doesn't worry me but expect Herve to try to rehabilate you army wise :)

One point I never understood is why all dwarves players have adopted a fake scottish accent. It doesn't worry me but I just don't understand why .

I think its because it fits so well!

And yes if you take the +1hp instead of the +1 skill pt you indeed have 14hp.

Still looking on the critical side though

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Hopeless - were you still interested in playing in the 4E game I'm DMing? It's under 'Fabes 4E', if you are.

Any word from Brallin?

By the way if you check on the avatar above for hopeless you'll find an xp update section you might want to have a look at once the latest combat ends

M Human

How are we handling our first level in a class? Are we adding everything for a first level character on top of what we currently have? You mentioned earlier that we are taking max hitpoints for first level but what about feats?

I am thinking of making Talden a first level ranger and was wondering if he gets a feat for being first level or if the feat he got for being a warrior counts as his first level feat.

Thanks!

I play with him in another PbP, I 'll ask him if he is still in .

Boggo and Willard , Herve is coming a bit strong there. Be assured I'm having a blast playing with you . It's just characters' tension .

Along those same lines, Tenna's just really uneasy around "rich blood". That's why she's been avoiding dealing with Herve a bit. It's going to take a while to overcome her upbringing, but she'll get there. ;)

Willy also is uncomfortable around aristocrats. He's just a meathead commoner (soon to be Barbarian).

Yes the feat your warrior got is your 1st level feat.

As far as gaining feats are concerned you include your npc class levels they just don't count against your PC xp requirements.

As far as going up levels are concerned you are all considered to have received the training you need to gain your first level as a PC prior to the start of the game.

At the moment you are at the fast xp level in the pathfinder beta rules, npc classes use a variant of 3.5 rules for their xp requirements.

As a first level ranger Talden gains all of the first level Ranger abilities and the usual increases for going up a level and yes full hp for 1st level in a PC class.
