Forum Bug. Worse than usual?

Website Feedback

Anyone else having a LOT of trouble with posts showing as updated on the main page but not in the threads? Or invisible thread titles? Or other sundry mishaps?

More than usual?

*raises hand*

It's definitely been worse than usual.

Irony of ironies. This thread didn't post for 20 minutes.

Yeah, I broke something a few days ago. I thought I'd fixed it but obviously haven't.

I've got a new fix that I think will work better but it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Yes, definitely, many more mishaps than usual. Apart from the usual eaten threads, there are also the missing thread titles you describe and invisible posts in threads. The invisible posts are now particularly frequent and they often become visible after somebody else posts in the relevant thread (unless his posts are also invisible).

Testing something...

Me not do anything!

The error I routinely get is I see someone has posted but when I click on the link, their post is not there.

This has been occurring on my end all day long as well.

Even worse so then usual, yup. they show up when you post and then delete your post, but I think that just clutters it up for everyone else.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Yeah, I know sometimes it makes posts show up but please don't post and then delete your post. I'm working on the problem...

This is exactly the invisible post I described above. Try posting in the said thread and both yours and their post should become visible.

OK, that's odd... Testing...

Jack's issue just happened to me with this very thread. I could preview Gary's response, but when I clicked it was not there.

Not in this case, but in several others I have clicked on a previewed post only to be redirected to the main messageboard page. It is a bit frustrating when I actually wanted to read the thread. Hopefully it is an easy fix. Sorry to add to the pain Gary. :)

Edit: When my response actually posted I was able to see Gary's (and also Cosmo's) response. Odd.

Poink.

OK, this is seriously weird.

Poink from the opposite direction....

I think that only happens when the missing post was the first and only post in the thread.

Scarab Sages

haha! Irony, but I had to post and then planned to delete it just to see above where Gary said not to do that. heh.

I think that only happens when the missing post was the first and only post in the thread.

I think so too. It (the redirection to the main page) has happened to me a number of times and each time it was one of the following two cases:

1) I post a new thread and it does not appear. I go to my account and view recent posts - the new post starting the new thread is there as if it posted normally. So I click on the post title to take me to the thread and it redirects me to the main page. This has happened quite a lot of times and the frequency of this has not increased over the past few days. I still always try it if my thread fails to appear, because sometimes (very rarely) it does take me to the thread which then appears (at least if I remember correctly - I am no longer sure now that I think about it more).

Also note: Generally, if I try to repost the thread (or if I simply post another thread on anything else) that failed to post the first time, it posts normally, but the original version of the thread posts too, thus creating a duplicate. This happens if the disappeared thread makes it into the "My Recent Threads" feature of my account. If it does not make it there, then it is gone permanently - or at least that is the impression I got.

2) The redirection to the main page happens when I try to access one of those threads which have invisible titles. These threads with invisible titles haven't been here before at all in my experience and have only began appearing during the last few days - perhaps since the new board for Clerics, Druids and Paladins was created.

Poink?

it seems to be better right now but only on some threads

Heh I was wondering about this last week, could the size of the messageboards (between that alpha still up and the beta growing we have a lot more subsections) be part of the problem?

I was kind of wondering that too. Also, could the number of people posting be part of the problem?

I've noticed the "blank thread name" problem basically as long as I've been posting, although the problem with missing posts seems to have just cropped up.

Good. I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon! Strike me down with all your hatred, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!

Hmm.

Another bug: I can't seem to post in the thread "The Elephant in the Room: Healing at Range" in the Cleric/Druid/Paladin forums. Whenever I click "reply" or "add new post" I get redirected to the top of the thread, rather than to a create new post page. Is this just my computer?

EDIT: I can post normally in other threads in that forum.

The Exchange

yes the site has been hiccuping recently.

<sigh> Yes, this is the return of another old bug. Unfortunately it's one of those that is fiendishly hard to duplicate deliberately.

Sovereign Court

You know what this means, the bugs are breeding and adapting to the poisons we set out earlier to get them. Pretty soon we will be overrun by a swarm of flesh eating Messageboard bugs. RUN!

Maybe if you got rid of the alpha forums and some of the older RPG superstar forums (moved all the entries to the archive) it would help? Are people still posting in the alpha or the really old ones?

I was just able to post normally in the thread... weird.
