Anyone Else Watching Primeval?

It's great. Time travel, dinosaurs, and secret government consperacies. It's Jurrasic Park meets the X-Files.

Never heard of it. Link?

Here you go. It's running on BBC America right now, after being run on BBC last year.

I have watched a few episodes, and also think it is pretty good.

Liberty's Edge

My sister sends me these; I've watched every episode. I love it.

I thought it would be goofy, but it's actually a pretty serious show with some decent comic relief. The sfx are pretty good for an ITV program, too.

I really liked Ryan's character, but they wrote him out very well. I thought it was very tasteful to simply fade away and then fade in to the cemetery.

The clones of the merc at the end was a nice touch to close out the season. At first I hated Cutter's wife, but now I love to hate her.

Awesome show. I can't wait for January and series 3.

Hmmph. Primeval is one of those shows I think I watch in the hope that somehow, somewhere, they will actually pull a good idea out of the aether. Occasionally they manage a twist (such as where the sabre-tooth tiger was coming from) that does not not disappoint, but most of the 'secret conspiracy' related story lines in the second season were waaaaay over the top. I think I prefered season one, which was free of such distractions.

We're only up to episode four here in the states. I loved the idea of the dodos and the parasite that they carried. I wonder if it will turn out that sailors bringing home the parasite was the source of the vampire hystaria in the 18th century.

I preferred season one as well (although the lack of engineers and physicists to investigate anomaly detection was a major omission). However, you can see why they took the turn they did for season two. In season one they had realised that pre-historic animals were just animals and a Police firearms squad can if necessary apply sufficient kinetic energy to kill them just like anything else. This meant that season one had covered just about as much as you could interestingly say about the early days of an under-resourced ad-hoc unit in a realistic way. Then it becomes "get in the physicists/engineers to work on detection" (which is difficult to make into exciting TV) and after that it's rapid-response pest control. As I say, I preferred Season one but it ended at about the right time and Season two needed to be essentially a different program.

Very well put. I think you hit it on the head.

Finally, I get what you guys were talking about. Oliver and his gang seem pretty cool and having a mammoth rampageing on the M-25 makes containment really hard this time. Lester getting a chance to play with guns was a great touch, I always knew he was more than a desk jockey. Season finale next week. I hope they go out with a bang.

It's an intriguing finish, certainly. I believe they're filming a third series soon.

I like it a lot, but I also think Season 1 was better.

Dark Archive

I actually like this series, but tend to watch it on-demand as my game night is usually Saturday.

Anyone catch the series 3 premiere last weekend? This week's rerun? What do you think?

Is it on in the U.S.? I know that the Sci-Fi Channel is running Series One and Two starting next Friday.

No, it's not. Series 3 just started in the UK ...and the British Embassy in Seoul :-)

Mildly curious about it, here in the UK, but not very excited.
At some point in Season 2 Primeval dropped into a zone (for me) somewhere between a serious drama and a Adam West/Burt Ward style 'Batman' with villains with insane agendas that only made sense in the loosest terms, but where at least you weren't watching it for anything other than the over-the-top humour. I wish Primeval would be either the one or the other, since apparently when it trys to do both it fails. ITV recently made the 'Demons' series which I feel did mix the two successfully, and which I am eagerly looking forward to the second season of, whenever that arrives.

Darn. You got me excited.

Anyone know where I can catch up with Season 3 on-line?

itunes has it.

Steve

Not sure if this has been confirmed but it appears ITV has scrapped plans for a fourth season of Primeval.

Anyone care to confirm or hopefully prove this wrong?

Was rather hoping to find out where they go next.

The Exchange

The series cancellation has been confirmed.

Well that sucks.

I'm sorry guys. I just started watching it with the end of series 2. Didn't mean to doom it.

*sigh* I waited two seasons to allow myself to really develop any vested interest, and now they've canceled it. Well, Doctor Who should be coming back eventually.

Liberty's Edge

I enjoyed the first two series, but the series 3 opener was pretty lame, in my opinion, and I didn't tune in for the second episode. It was almost like they completely forgot about all the cool stuff they set-up in the series 2 finale, but I suppose they decided it was better to try and grab up first-time viewers who might otherwise be confused by a episode picking up with the finale's close.

I was hoping we'd see

Spoiler:
Jenny Lewis and the team go through an anomaly change something and come back to a present with Nick Cutter trying to change the world, and Helen and Claudia Brown trying to stop him. Doug Henshall as a villian would have been an interesting turn. Then the crew would need to figure out which timeline was the 'correct' one and how to fix it.

Oh well.

Good news for Primeval fans. The show has been resurrected and season 4 will begin airing in 2011. LINK

Is this on DVD yet? Maybe 1st season? I love the show but SciFi channel is being sporadic about it lately and it's messing up my internal timeline for the show.....
BTW, Awesome show.

Considering the premise of the show, this is an amusing statement.

From Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt.

n 2011 Flemyng will reprise his character of Danny Quinn for one episode in the ITV science fiction cult drama series Primeval in its fourth series

Too bad, I liked Danny's character better than the new ARC leader.
