Transformers (G1)
Robotech (Macross Saga was brilliant, but Sentinels and New Generation were OK)
Starblazers
Battle of the Planets
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Of which I own every Season of everything but He-Man (still too expensive in Australia). I do have the He-Man/She-Ra Christmas Special and bought the Best of She-Ra for my 2yo Daughter. I will buy Best of He-Man for my 6mo Son when he gets a little older.

Star Blazers was '79, but I don't think I saw it run until 1980.
Favorite 80's cartoons? Here's an unwholesome one... Urotsukidôji! 7 out of 10 for shock value, and I've never seen a 9.

I definately wouldn't have seen it 'til the 80's in Australia.
I also own Urotsukidôji (Legend of the Overfiend) & Urotsukidôji II (Legend of the Demon Womb) on a Special Edition DVD.
Myth has it that one of them (I think Demon Womb, but I can't remember) had to go back to the Censors to be re-classified 3 times before it was suitable for an Australian R Rating (18+)!
And hey, for unwholesome, what about the Spider Demon Woman at the start of Wicked City! ;)

Ten episodes, I think. Though I have not seen them all.
Favorites?
G.I. Joe
Transformers
Visionaries
Real Ghostbuster

I have the D&D cartoon, the first half of Galaxy Rangers and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors on DVD.
I am SO glad to hear someone else mention Galaxy Rangers! That is hands down my 80s favorite! :)
Just out of curiosity, does anyone remember Tigersharks? It was the sea version of Thundercats (Silverhawks being the air version).

Never a Tigersharks fan. Perferred Silverhawks or Thundercats more.

Cool that it uses the old Skills and Powers. I really enjoyed those rules, but they died out too quick with my group in favor of 3.0.

gi joe
dungeons and dragons
voltron
We never got GI Joe here in Australia (at least that I ever saw). Wedidi get M.A.S.K. though and that was really cool!
D&D was cool, but I only ever saw a handful of episodes. I did have a D&D colouring in book though and I loved it!Lion Force or Vehicle Force Voltron? Lion Force was pretty good and it seems to be the popular choice, but I always enjoyed Vehicle Force sooo much more.

Thundercats was cool, as was Tigersharks. Don't think I ever saw Silverhawks.
Does anyone remember Defenders of the Earth?
Flash Gordon, Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Lothar and their Kids.

You know what I remembered the most about Galaxy Rangers (besides the badge tap, which developed into a nervous twitch that I still do)?
The episode Rogue arm, when the arm flushes the two guys out of the airlock. I was shocked, happy that the show wasn't pulling punches, but shocked.

Wasn't really my favorite, but the Mr. T cartoon makes me laugh when I think about it. Why in the hell was he traveling around with a team of gymnasts? Does that even make sense in Bizarro world?
Cartoons have always been a good vehicle to sell crap. Remember Rubik?
And thanks for reminding me about vehicle force Voltron. I had totally forgotten about that.

Well, it was Mr. T so we can be pretty sure his intentions were pure. Now if it had been Michael Jackson traveling around with a bunch of pre-pubescent gymnists...

I must be a bit older. "Herculoids" and "Challenge of the Superfriends" (the one with the Legion of Doom) were my favorites. "Space Ghost" (the real one, not the "coat-to-coast") was a close third.
"herculoids"? was that the one with the critter that shot fireballs out of its horn, and the dragon thingy that shot lasers out of its tail, and the blob thingy with a kid blob thingy?
if so, i LOVED that one! that cartoon probably made my eventual d&d habit inevitable...

that was a trip down memory lane...
space ghost was cool also, i loved the invisibility belts...
china loves space ghost coast to coast and anything with brak, so don't diss them when you come over next! ;)

Ok, they aren't '80s cartoons, but they were on in the '80s, and i watched them as a kid in the '80s, so wtv.
Jetsons
Flinstones
Scooby Doo, where are you?
And as for the ones that actually were '80s cartoons (putting down all the ones i can remember):
Voltron
Transformers
the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo
Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Babar
Chip and Dale and Talespin
Duck Tales (I loved this show! if i had to pick a favorite, it'd be this!)
Garfield and Friends
Inspector Gadget
The Dalesman |
The ones I enjoyed (and that I remember right now):
Thundercats
Silverhawks
Tigersharks (neat idea, but I never got into it like the previous two)
Voltron (the five lions more than the vehicle teams, and I never saw the third Voltron here in the states)
Galaxy Rangers
Mighty Orbots
He-Man
Galaxy Rangers
Thunderbirds: 2086 (I loved the animation, even if it was only available on Showtime)
Robotech
Visionaries (my oldest friend and I created D&D classes based on them - super cheesy, but still fun)
Transformers
G.I. Joe
Blackstar
Your Friendly Neighborhood Dalesman
"Bringing Big D**n Justice to the Bad Guys Since 1369 DR"

I loved Silverhawks. Every show needs an electric guitar playing redneck pilot. Especially on that plays the guitar during battle.

But I did enjoy the show. Besides - what's not to love about a guy named Shane Gooseman?

Star Blazers was far and away my favorite. The Wave Motion Gun was pure genius.
Transformers would be number 2, and Thundercats 3rd. Starscream was my favorite character from the former and the Lunatacs the later. I used to fantasize about flying a fighter from Star Blazers. Later on Silver Hawks was one I watched a lot. I loved Robotech, but not sure which incarnation I watched. The first ones I watched they were mostly flying around in the fighter jets that morphed into robots and in the second one they rode motorcycles that turned into a sort of cyborg type body armor on them.
Now I watch a ton of Anime. Favorites include Bleach, Naruto, Noein, Full Metal Alchemist, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Trinity Blood and many more. Heck, Anime has singlehandedly made me want to learn how to speak Japanese. I LOVE Asian culture, or at least what I have been able to be exposed to here in the U.S.

One of my fav Anime. I like the old skool anime (Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, etc...) The new stuff seems a bit to "made to appeal to kids but it's not really for kids" to me.

Macross Saga was the First one with the Veritech Fighters (the best by a very long shot).
The Masters was the second with Tanks that transformed around their drivers.New Generation was the third that had the motorcycles that turned into armour.

Ulysses 31
I liked Ulysses 31 as well (the theme song has haunted me even 'til now). I saw the boxed set of it on sale a little while a go, but it was pretty expensive. If it ever comes down in price I will get it.
Also, how could I forget Mysterious Cities of Gold. Man I loved that show! If they ever released it on DVD as a boxed set I would snap it up no matter what the price.
Opening Sequence.
