Only for the sheer waste of guard funds - he didn't get any useful information!
I have some questions, and some obvious misconceptions about my character to clear up.
First: Sheraviel is not interested in sexual relations with Cadogan. This doesn't mean she hates sex, can't stand the idea of sex, or wants to eradicate it or something. She's just tired of his advances, as she's not interested for her own reasons, and is glad he's finally given up in that regard.
So, question:
You mentioned earlier that there was duel called against the marquis because he offered to pay a young elven woman for "favors". So...while the escort service is totally legal...is it somehow distasteful? Or not? And if not, why did the other woman call a duel? If being an escort isn't shameful in Avionnan society, why would being offered some form of recompense be a deadly insult?

That's all understood very well on my part; I was just teasing her a bit based on the types of nonsense that Cadogan (being a 19-year-old egotist) would say. [Edit: The only thing I, personally, impart to her spurning Cadogan is the fact that she actually has standards!] Sometimes what I think sounds cute just falls flat -- no offense intended.

An escort service isn't distasteful, just considered a bit superfluous by most people. Part of the reason the Quicklime Group has been getting away with what they're apparently up to is that most people who would use such a service are lonely and don't have a lot of friends -- and are thus less likely to be missed. They screwed up with Paternoster, but he was supposedly estranged from his sons, and Quicklime was looking at a much higher potential payoff as well, so the evidence suggests they decided to take a risk in that case.
Daressa's story depends on the context, as with so many other things in Aviona. That scenario was somewhat complex:
1. (a) Lady Daressa was a guardswoman, not an escort. The offer was blatant enough that the implication was that she was selling her looks instead of her sword -- something like hiring a hotshot lawyer and then telling him you want him to dig a trench.
(b) Also, she was one of the King's Guards -- not the guards of some local province. d'Ansac had absolutely no business asking her or telling her to do ANYTHING at all, professionally. (Personally would be another matter, but then the recompense would never come up!)
(c) Finally, she was born into the royalty of some other plane, so talking to her in a tone appropriate for addressing a commoner was totally inappropriate.
2. When the Marquis figured all that out, he compounded his error by offering her political alliance rather than money. That's a big no-no among elves: supposedly, a physical relationship can be a fling, a transaction, or a celebration of an existing relationship, but it is never supposed to be a condition of that relationship. For him to treat it as such was a major breach of elven protocol.
3. Daressa mostly thought he was creep anyway, so all that might or might not just be a pretext. After all, this is a woman who openly carries a Morganti weapon. Attributing "normal" behavior to her is probably a mistake. (Interstingly, she's nominally human, but just acts as elven as some of the elfs. Whenever I play a female PC, she somehow ends up acting a bit like Aliera e'Kieron, whether I mean for her to or not.)

Folks back home in Ohio want me to run a game for them when I'm there on vacation. I'm thinking 5th level stand alone, any module recommendations?
The Gamemastery module that Silverhair ran for us a year or two ago was awesome -- Last Baron? Something like that. Derek and China and I all really enjoyed that one.

So something good came out of the Declare Cleave thread. I made up better Cleave feats.
Anytime you hit a foe, you deal damage normally and can make an additional attack (at the same base attack bonus of the successful hit) against a foe that is adjacent to the first and also within reach. You can only make one additional attack per round with this feat. When you make this extra attack, you take a –2 penalty to your Armor Class until your next turn.

I've more or less kept the 3.5 Cleave as-is, and renamed the Pathfinder version as "Follow-Through." We've also specifically declared Cleave and Follow-Through attacks to be attacks of opportunity; therefore, a character with Combat Reflexes essentially gains Great Cleave (or Improved Follow-Through) automatically. Finally, the Supreme Cleave prestige class feature from 3.5 (make 5-ft. steps between cleaves) has been added as a feat (prerequisites: Combat Reflexes, Cleave or Follow-Through).

heh. Unless you give yourself a black eye. I have to flip my hair over when blow drying it to get the lower layers dry...one time I wasn't paying attention and banged my face against the corner of the open door, giving myself a very impressive black eye. I just told everyone I was in a fight...it was less embarassing...

I know Cyz and I suggested switching back to the On the Frontier party next week, have we come to a decision on that?
I'm open to suggestions either way. We seem to be going 2 adventures on / 2 off with each group:
But there's no need to maintain that pattern if we don't feel like it. In case it hasn't been clear, overall I've been making the challenges for the "King's Guard" group a lot less level-appropriate, and requiring a whole lot more outside-the-box strategy in terms of tactical retreats vs. bold assaults, and re-thinking of plans, and the like. There's a reason for that -- namely, that the King's Guard will eventually determine the survival and fate of Aviona itself, and they need all the practice they can get in terms of thinking at that level.
However, there's no reason that ALL the "King's Guard" adventures need to be quite so difficult, and for ALL the "Frontier" ones to be quite so modular. If people are sick of scheming and outmaneuvering for now, and want more stand-up fights and/or straightforward adventuring, I can provide that with either group. If they want more scheming for Fiachra and Jazeed and friends, I can easily do that, too.

Regarding non-level-appropriate challenges: There are actually options other than retreat -- for example, totally outrageous frontal assaults become possible if you're willing to spend your hero points. Derek's use of a hero point to go from -1 hp to 4 hp (by bending the rules for taking a breather) is an excellent example of stuff I'd like to encourage as much as possible.
I didn't want to give too many suggestions, but I was sort of hoping that someone might ask something like, "What are the chances that the masonry wall is really weak right where we're digging?"
Another possibility would be something like "what are the odds that Monk left himself a path through the brambles that I could follow to him?"

With only one vote, I'm going with the frontier group. My "Three Curses of Wolvishton" adventure (which I once submitted to Dungeon, only to have the print magazine get cancelled) is in three modular parts, enabling us to phase characters in and out with minimal difficulty; I anticipate the following:
I anticipate no burglaries, and none of the "boss" types are primary casters. I'll have to check when I get home to make sure I can make it easy enough so that 4th level characters won't really have a hard time with it. If not, I may pull out something from Dragon magazine, or maybe Hook Mountain Massacre or something, or see if they're ready for the City of the Torturer instead -- trips into Aramni are always fun.
