Anybody seen BT?

Hello everyone. Have been AFK for a while. Should have warned you but I didn't expect it to last much more than 24 hours. Anyway, I'm back.

On the other hand, now I'm starting to be concerned about Otto.

Black Tom wrote:

Yeah, it's been two weeks. I hope everything is ok.

Yeah, me too. As I saw on another thread for similar reasons, it seems odd to be concerned about the welfare of someone I've never met and have no means of contacting -- all you can do is wait and hope.

For what it's worth, it was a planned departure. Hopefully, his other business is just taking longer than planned.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I've been thinking. Much as I hate it, it's been two weeks since we heard from Otto, and the game does suffer. It's still great, but not as great as when we had five players. Shisumo is doing a good job keeping Grond in business, but it's true that Otto's style is inimitable.

What I propose is that Grond will go curl up in the Pogin cave (where you spent the day levelling up) and that we bring in a new rogue (or some sort of trapfinder/scout). If and when Otto returns we'll just have a six-character party.

Normally I'd just make these decisions myself but this has evolved into a rather tight-knit game, so I feel you should have a say.

As long as we give Otto a window of opportunity to return, I'm good with that plan.

Dark Archive

I am good with whatever you all decide as you were the ones actually roleplaying with him for any length of time.

Liberty's Edge

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

As I said before, I really don't think I am doing Grond justice, but I want Otto to come back and play him rather than having him disappear. A temporary break and the possibility of a return would be exactly what I would like. I have no objection to another player, though.

I wouldn't have any problems with what you suggest, BT.

If I may, though, with the departure of Rana, we really have no information about who it is we are looking for. Perhaps, we could send Grond back to town to get that bit of information for us and just setup a prearranged meeting time. When Otto returns, we could use that as the time to meet back up with Grond and perhaps we will be a little more clear on who Fenton is and how we will recognize him when we find him.

Just a suggestion.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

That's an excellent idea. You may want to cash in some loot, too. Give Grond a shopping list.

Only if you promise we'll get our stuff back! ;)

Nice pic of Ka'kara, Arioch.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Here is a second improved picture of Ka'kara. This one is closer to how I imagine her. Ka'kara Gonna link these on my character sheet.

Female Halfling Rogue 2

Hello to all. Here is Hella. Looking forward to playing. This is my first PbP, so please be gentle.

"Why, hello, girlfriend! I didn't see you come in!! Welcome to the party. Sit down, have some tea, tell us all about yourself." ;-)

Seriously, welcome -- I think you'll find that we're pretty easy to get along with. Comes with having a seriously cool DM. Not that I would throw compliments his way without justification. Or anything. Ever.

:-D

Did I mention Roylenna's had a near-death experience?

Hella wrote:

Welcome, we're very glad you could join us. Proteus is my counterpart in the game. This is my first pbp game also and, if I recall correctly, it is BT's first time DMing a pbp, and we're all pretty friendly.

To provide you with some reading while waiting for your character's entrance, here might be some links of interest.

Here is the link to our game.
Here is a link to our cartography page.

I think I speak for the group when I say we're looking forward to your involvement.

Welcome Hella! Come on it, the water's fine!

Just beware of the water mephit! ;)

Female Human Barbarian 7

Welcome Hella, and watch out for kobolds down here as they shoot little children. Just ask Roylenna.

P.S. The water fine but the damn islands are treacherous!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Hella, you are welcome to devise some kind of backstory that explains you exploring a dangerous dungeon alone. If you can do that, you can join the fray as good as immediately.

By the way, you start with 930 xp and 1 hero point.

Female Halfling Rogue 2

Thanks. In addition to the background story in her profile, here is an addendum to explain her current situation:

Three days after entering the caves with her 'mentor' Figno, and two other 'apprentices', who were clearly no more than common street thugs, poor Hella found herself plotting her escape. Figno had led them deep into the cave structure before leaving them with instructions to retrieve
'an item of significance to your studies.' He extolled them to work as a team and bid them good luck on their 'extraction exam.' She wasn't sure if the exctraction referred to the item of significance or to her own safe extraction. It didn't take long after that for Lugpull and Wrank to find trouble and abandon Hella. Hiding amongst the crags of a dimly lit cave, the last she heard of her 'companions' was the shriek of battle followed by the sound of fast and heavy footsteps away from her location.

Thank you. As you can see I've modified your story somewhat. I just wanted it to be reasonably in character for Hella. You can have an extra hero point for your trouble (and for creating a background that I can use for further hooks). That goes for the rest of you too, if you'd like to expand on your backgrounds.

I have posted an updated overall map for the group on the website if any are interested.

Black Tom wrote:

I'm glad you wrote this because it reminded me of something I had written a while back when Grond had started expressing an interest in Asclepius. Now that he has left I am unsure if it will see any in game use, but I thought you might be interested. So, I added it to an "Asclepius" spoiler tag on Proteus' profile. I used the "History" section of "The Player's Guide to the Wilderlands" to create it. I think it fits in nicely with why there may not be a large contingent of priests to Asclepius in the area if it is known (either commonly or not) in Warwik that Asclepius aided The Overlord. That fact may also give Proteus (and other followers of Asclepius) some local enemies. Let me know what you think and if it will fit in with your world and/or campaign. I can edit it if there are any changes you'd like to make.

Also, I would be very interested in some sort of campaign thread that plays into the background of Asclepius or his enemies if you have a spot for it, although I have no expectations for it.

That's definitely worth a hero point. I'll get back to you as soon as I've had time to ponder it all.

I never really considered how much slower PBP is than a tabletop game, so if you (that is all of you) want a change of pace from this endless dungeon crawl, just give me a nudge and I'll see what we can do. I just happen to like dungeon crawls, but you may want to get back to town at some point.

I'm fine with the current state of affairs, but I'm flexible.

Female Human Barbarian 7

I am not minding the dungeon at all. Kind of enjoying it actually as I haven't done a dungeon in a PBP before.

Liberty's Edge

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

At some point, sure, but this is the pace of PbP in general - I mean, we're still only 2nd level, if that! At some point, Sandros really would like a magic rapier (rassum frassum stupid mephit DR), but we've got time yet to work through all that. So far, we're doing fine from my perspective.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Heh, I haven't had so much fun with a mephit since a certain crazy air mephit with sorcerer levels. Fighting a flying opponent with DR, fast healing and lots of castings of Web in a narrow corridor with windows on the second floor was no picnic.

Seriously though, if you've had enough, go rest by all means. Or go explore a little further.

And I suspect that if you ever find a potion of Water Breathing, that's going to be one sorry mephit.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)
Black Tom wrote:

He's a stinker, for sure. If Ka'kara gets her hands on him, I think she could maintain a grapple indefinitely while Roylenna turns him into a scalded mephit, one ray at a time. And no danger of burning her, to boot!

I have updated the overall map to include the information that Hella had regarding the complex.

WorsT wrote:

All I can say is, "Wow" -- that looks like a lot of work. I had no idea how much ground we'd covered.

Black Tom: I'm going to say we stashed any extra crossbow bolts in the room with the pillar and Roylenna has added two cases of 10 to her load. Is that cool? How many crossbow bolts would that leave in the stash?

AinvarG wrote:

As I was mapping it, I was thinking the same thing. It has been several hours worth of work, but I think it looks nice.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yes, the map is awesome, and I would shower you with hero points but for that it would unbalance the game.

Sorry, I forgot to answer about the crossbow bolts, but I think Roylenna could gather about ten full quivers, which would leave eight in the stash.

Awesome, thanks! Hella, please consider yourself to be aware of that fact - you may not know exactly where they are at, but Roylenna would have pointed out the tunnel and given an approximate distance for you.

Another update on the map.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

By the way, isn't Hella missing her favored class bonus? You are entitled to either an extra hit point or an extra skill point.

Female Halfling Rogue 2

Thanks, Black Tom. I added in Sense Motive.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

My new set of prerolls are up on my character page.

Sandros looks around the cave, then pauses as he notices a sheaf of papers on the ground nearby. Picking them up, he looks in surprise at the title: The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Beta Playtest Edition Prestige Classes. He begins to flip through the pages idly, but he abruptly stops and sits up straight, looking with interest at a page labeled, "Duelist."

"Oh my..." he whispers to himself. "Now I do have some decisions to make, don't I..."

Oh, that was a dirty trick! I'd forgotten all about today being the day, and was going to bed, and then I saw you'd posted!!

It's all YOUR fault!

(But thanks for the reminder. I've already scanned through it once. Addictive stuff, that.)

Tomorrow morning (in about 7 hours) I will be leaving for a student nursing conference, so I may be out of pocket. I will be on the road tomorrow and in classes until evening. I am going to try to take my laptop since they should have wireless access at my hotel, but I am not sure what my availability will be to post.

Feel free to allow someone to run Proteus or DMPC him if I start slowing the group down. I will be home on Friday night.

Good luck everyone.

I have placed an "X" by the spells I have chosen under Proteus' profile. Orisons and domain powers without an "X" are abilities with unlimited usage.

I will try to keep the map caught up if BT will continue to send me map updates.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I am away on a retreat for the next two days. See you Friday. You could always use the time to chat some and then figure out where to go to and marching order and stuff.

Updated the big map here.

I was thinking arcanist. I am continually fighting the urge to make Sandros a sorcerer and then go eldritch knight, because I love "gish" characters so much - having a spellslinger going simultaneously would help with that urge a lot, I think.

Plus, I had noticed some hints that the arcanist slot might be coming open soon.

It's been too long since I posted here - I seem to have lost the "you've posted here" indicator. Only one way I know to fix that...

Good sirs, can you refresh my memory regarding what xp progression we are using for our game? Not that I'm greedy, but I'm curious if and when third level might find me... OK, I'm greedy.
