Federal law requires accurate identification of the country of origin on most types of goods manufactured outside of the US. So if you see "Printed in the USA" on a Wizards product, they actually mean it's printed in the USA; if they lied about that, they'd be fined back into the stone age.
Yes that is supposed to be the case. However it does not always happen. I used to work in the paper industry and on several occasions we would recieve rolls of paper from the mill that proudly proclaimed "Made in the USA, Mexico City, Mexico mill."

Boy, I'm glad that I served in the USMC and served my country so folks could trash it through "Freedom of Speech". :)
Actually, I am glad I served my country so they could…all the while smiling at the irony. Although, I suspect, if you really probe a little deeper you would find that they are not trashing the country so much as the leadership. And that, I think, does need trashing from time to time. Please do not take this as yet another band wagon Bush bashing. I think every administration all the way back to Washington needs to be called to carpet now and again.

Erik Mona wrote:No. Of course not. Everyone knows that. When the aliens came to earth to put humans there, they first eradicated the dinos.Wait, dinosaurs and humans never coexisted?
No, no. The aliens showed up, and they released a retrovirus into the dinosaurs (recognizing them as the species most likely to produce the planet's dominant species) that made them slavishly obedient to the aliens, so that whatever species arose from them would be loyal to the aliens when they came back a few million years later.
Something went wrong, and the mission commander, demonstrating his 'control' over a T-Rex, got eated. The second-in-command (laughing inside as he celebrated his promotion) killed it, and they decided to wipe out all the dinosaurs and try again. They pushed a big asteroid down to wipe everything out and left.
Whether or not they infected the proto-mammals with the control virus is unclear. We'll know if they ever come back.
As for the serious crap, I escaped from growing up in town full of religious racists (who believed that black skin was the mark of Cain, for instance) and I both game with and work with Chinese people, so I'm perfectly fine with some of my gaming budget going to yellow-skinned folk. Everybody's gotta eat, whether or not I agree with their government. Lord knows I don't agree with *our* government a lot of the time, and I still buy American stuff...

6. And this is the real kicker that finally pushed me over the edge -- 4th edition, it turns out, is being printed in the U.S., while Pathfinder is being printed in China. If given a choice, I will support a company which supports American families rather than the People's Liberation Army slave-labor sweatshop factories.
Wow. Protectionist American chauvinism for the win!

And, indeed, you'll find "Printed in China" on pretty much every product we're making these days. I think the only thing we haven't done in China this year is our T-shirt printing. (And I haven't checked the tags to see where the T-shirts are actually *manufactured*...)
Vic, as a union man, I find this very disappointing. I'll continue to buy this stuff because the creators are its major factor, and supporting them does not mean economically supporting a dictatorship that tortures religious and political prisoners, but it will be a factor in my future purchasing decisions. Obviously, you're free to run your business in the way that you feel best, but I thought you should know that you have customers who take this stuff very seriously.
And it does undermine the progressive tilt of your stories, which I've been supportive of.

Agreed (except for the union part), I have attempted to boycott all chinese product from my purchase for similar reasons (not to mention the worry of safety for my family). While I know you guys are well intentioned it does limit the # of products I would otherwise have ordered from you, I am not going to completely stop purchasing from you, but I did consider it.

1) Who cares where it is made. Half the time the ownership of several companies in multiple different countries can all be tied back to the same parent corporate consortium which, as most large companies, owe allegience to no one nation.
2) I refuse to play a game system which was designed simply to be cross compatible with the recent trend of figure based combat games (aka Heroclix). WoTC should be ashamed at such a blatant money grab as they have soiled a once great game so they could dumb down the system to be appeal to a broader fan base in a market which an RPG has no business being.
I truly feel the Pathfinder system has it going on and was set to be a nice competition for D&D 3.5, but with WoTC flushing their game system down the toilet, I think Pathfinder now has a chance to be a leader in the RPG community. They certainly have the content and so far the quality has been consistant. We'll see what the future holds, and if WoTC gets their heads out of their *** and starts planning now to repair their brand.
There is a reason 4th edition went on 50% off at most stores 1 week after it's release.

Isn't this a little short sighted? I've been a Teamster and Paperworker and am pro-union but a small company HAS to compete. How limited would they buying pool be if every product was marked up another 20-50%? I know I would have to drop my subscriptions and cherry pick more. Besides, with the declining dollar and the cost of fuel skyrocketing, we are already seeing the return of manufacturing to the US.
I'm not looking for a fight or flame war or good old fashioned banning or anything. So, if my comment is offensive or simply not polite enough, I do apologize. Let the discussion continue.

Oh, but they work so well for Herald.
Pres Man can't be bothered with quotes from famous academics, logic or the correct understanding of hypocrisy. You see he's entitled to his opinion right or wrong.
And that my friends is your daily example of irony. Good day and god bless.

Um did I say they had to get it made in america? I don't believe I did. China isn't the only place in the world offering cheap manufacturing.
Also as a side note, manufacturing never left America, it just changed to automated manufacture that requires less labor and moved into software instead of industrial grade manufacturing. American maunfacturing is still quite strong, it just isn't in the same areas it used to be and it employs fewer people to do it, along with the rebranding and outsourcing of non-manufacturing branches within manufacturing companies. America still produces quite a lot, just not in the same industries.

just as a side note since everyone is all up in arms with Chinese manufacturing...I was watching a show/documentary on American ports....hell I think the show was called America's Port and the longshoreman they were interviewing made a very intuitive comment, "You know what is the United States' major export? Air. The containers come in full and we ship them back empty."

I didn't read beyond the first post of this thread, but wanted to make one comment. The bit about D&D 4e being made in the U.S. as opposed to China for PFRPG, made me laugh out loud. I picked up a 4e book at my FLGS recently and was flipping through the pages. I had a very small amount of sweat on my skin as it is hot out. I wasn't dripping or anything, but my hands were moist. Anyway, I flip the pages and I kid you not the writing was smudging on every single page. I've never seen anything like it. My 3.5 Monster Manual had an entire cup of water dumped on it while open and I got out a blow dryer and towels and after fifteen minutes the page was wrinkled as heck, but the writing was all still legible and there were no smudges.
I hate to say it, but the craftsmanship on the 4e books is a joke. I can't even imagine how angry I would be if I shelled out $105 for these books and got them home and the pages smudged just from the natural moisture on my skin.

in same places it sold well, but i think alot of the sales had to do with people wanted to see what is was all about, i would be interested to see how many returns they got in 1st week.
Also is there no board mods here? come on guys this whole china thing is WAYYY off topic. This company really needs to get their msg board in order, assign some mods to clean up the place and put a better interface in but that is for another post ;)

You, sir, are spot-on. In fact, it's our patriotic duty to scrutinize the government and make sure that they are acting in the best interest of the country... And we define our country as "we the people," not "Mr. President," "the administration," "the economic elite," "corrupt lobbyists," etc.

You know, you're right. The folks who have been posting about alternative spell point systems and the like are on the right track, I think.
I can understand why people would want a different system, and I can see us producing something as an add-on option to facilitate that style of play.
You might want to talk to Sean Reynolds about that...IIRC he had a pretty detailed spell-point system worked up. I remember him (I think it was him) posting it about 10 years ago. I think I still have that document somewhere.

didn't you see that the "election" was decided months ago by the shadowy overlords? I mean really get with the times. The Onion leaked some of the results, much to the chagrin of "our" government.

the problem is that there really isn't a topic to discus on threads like these. He declared his leaving and why, we can argue his points but the topic isn't change my mind, the thread is a declaration of intent, so any discussion that follows is off topic unless it is to tell him how to leave. If people want to respond to one of his points that's fine, but technically it's off topic.
And personally I'm opposed to moderators stepping in and enforcing things follow some arbitrary topic unless what is being said is offensive or attacking another poster, I could see a mederator attempting to shut down the flamewar, but there is no reason to shut down a conversation based on expressing our opinion of the company using chinese production.
