[FEATS] Gorum and the Riddle of Steel

Skills & Feats

Dark Archive

I'm getting ready to start a RotRL playtest campaign and was working up some additional background feats for the characters. Here's two I came up with for a cleric of Gorum. Thoughts?

Riddle of Steel
With a whispered prayer to Gorum, you coax forth the inherent power of steel.
Prerequisite:Craft (weapons or armor) 1 rank, Knowledge (religion) 1 rank; Patron Deity (Gorum).
Benefit: When you cast a spell or use a spell-like or supernatural ability that grants an enhancement bonus to a weapon or suit of armor, the bonus granted is increased by +1. The weapon or armor so enhanced must be primarily composed of metal for this bonus to apply.

Blessing of Sinew
You call upon Gorum to grant your body the strength and flexibility of well-forged steel.
Prerequisite:Riddle of Steel; Knowledge (religion) 3 rank; Patron Deity (Gorum).
Benefit: When you cast a spell or use a spell-like or supernatural ability that grants a bonus to Strength, Dexterity or Constitution, you may choose to increase the bonus granted by +2 or double the duration.

Silver Crusade

Hmmm...interesting.

Sounds like metamagic with no spell level increase to me!

How can this is?!

A bit overpowered, IMO.

Why? The first feat essentially gives a cleric (or their friend) a +1 hit and damage (or +1 AC) when they cast magic weapon, greater magic weapon, magic vestments, etc. At low levels that might seem better than, say Weapon Focus, until you consider that, at low levels, the cleric can cast the spell maybe once or twice a day and it lasts 1-2 MINUTES. Meaning compared to Weapon Focus, they get +1 damage for 1-2 encounters a day, rather than having a +1 hit all day long. Even at higher levels (when it stays useful, but not overpowering) when the cleric could make use of the feat for multiple, long-lasting castings, +1 to hit/damage is no more powerful than the bardic music ability of a 1st-level bard.

Same goes with the second feat, which garners the cleric (or lucky recipient) a +1 to hit/damage, or +1 AC, or +1 hp/level, for probably one encounter per casting. I could see possibly increasing the prerequisites (couldn't think of anything else that seemed appropriate) but I don't think its overpowered. Do have any specific reasons for thinking so?

tribeof1, you could start a new thread called '[THINK TANK] Background Feats' (similar to what we're doing with Racial Feats) so that everyone could post their suggestions there. :)
