I wouldn't mind seeing full-blooded Orcs in the handbook, or the indispensable Goblin. At the same time, I'll take just the base races in a pinch. But as to anthropomorphic animals, they aren't right for every campaign. Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, and the rest almost always are. Also, pandas or wolves or mongooses or whatever just would not fit with the others.

I don't want to see any races added to the core book because it is the CORE book. Also excuse my ignorance but how can a half-anything be a race. It won't be noticeably anything in 3 or 4 generations. In a supplement I would like to see rules for playing humanoids as characters. Just once in a while it is nice to play the bad guys trying to whup the good guys (besides I have always loved goblins and using them to teach arrogant parties a lesson) "Waddya mean they are using ballistas!!!" or "Why are all these tunnels so damm low and dark, ow, ow, ow" "Look they have a shaman...who fireballed us!" There are certainly some races that I could concieve as having a civilisation.
In the humanoids book they were some cool races to use but some stupid abilities although some of the classes made sense.

I kinda like the psionics rules -- and even have a currently active psionic character.
The psionics rules are part of the OGLed materials that are now collected with the SRD.
Despite this, I don't believe psionic rules should be rolled into the most-core book at this time, because it's not a generalized enough set of rules. The general swords and sorcery fantasy RPG character types should be those included in the core gamebook -- stuff like a warrior type, a rogue type, a priest type, and a mage type.
That goes doubly for races. I think a half-orc is a good one to include in the core book. I don't think an anthro species is a good one to include -- because, like psionic classes, anthropomorphic animal species are far too specific to a certain subset of game flavors.
Keep pandas and psionic classes out of the core Pathfinder RPG book -- even though I like most of the psionic classes.

I would love to see Catfolk be made into a Golarion race even if it isent for the pathfinder RPG. Well I can always hope.
I didn't care for the Races of Whatever write-up of Catfolk. In fact, despite the crazy popularity of Goliaths among power-gamers, the only new races from any of the 'Races of' books I liked were the Killorian (sp?). They seemed pretty exotic, and would have made for an interesting variant race for a setting with no elves, to fit the 'elf-niche.'
As for animal-people races, Catfolk, Lupin, etc. have never done much for me. My top choices would be Gnoll and Aarakocra (no other winged race, Avariel, Raptoran, etc. has come close to the coolness of Aarakocra, IMO).
I'm kinda stunned at how awesome the Warforged, Shifters and Changelings, from Eberron, are. Three hits out of four races, which, for someone as picky as me, is ridiculously unlikely!

As others had said, Half Orcs, Gnomes etc may not have been in 2nd edition, but they certainly were in 1st edition (or AD&D). Gnomes have been a player race for a long time. Half Orcs had a bid more of a winding road though, as has been pointed out.
I'm also in the camp of not adding to, or subtracting from, the core races. Paizo could certainly come out with future suppliments that add non core player races. Plus, let's keep in mind the Pathfinder RPG is built to still allow you to use your existing 3.5 books, so there are plenty of additional player races to pick from as well.
Or, as others have correctly mentioned, you could just make a race yourself and use it to your heart's content!

There is but one race I wish to see.
whoa...if that was an option, I'd have to make an NPC villian who wore a beret named Monsieur Mallah who carried around a brain in a jar. My players already know who it is, and i know it smacks of unoriginality, but some things you just gotta do.

Close.
Give 'em wings and call 'em Derhii and you might have a winner there. Best new race ever!!

Well I seem to remember James Jacobs saying that there would be no new races in the core rules but that he made sure to include both Aasimar and Tieflings right off the bat, and as such he didn't say no when I asked if they would be playable at some point as core races. So who knows we may have a just a few additional races as time goes on.

I would like to see the following subraces:
Name: Aasimar
Reference Pic: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/2083/aasimarak1.jpg
Description:[/b] The descendants of a parring of a human and a angel, archon, eladrin, or guardinal, celestial power courses through their veins.
Name: Forest Gnome
Reference Pic: http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/9259/forestgnomeuf6.jpg
Description: Known as brambles or greenhair gnomes, they live in hard to find settlements and have abilities to let them conceal themselves.

Tieflings are mentioned. Personally, I have always loved genasi and goliaths but other than that, they can all go bye bye. I would think drow would be included somewhere

If I played in that game....you'd have to take my brain and put me into a metal adamantine golem...and paint me gold!!!

As long as Mallah did not have a counterpart named Grodd. And I could play a green skinned wild shaping Druid.
