Oh mighty Kruelaid, wilt thou grant our dearest boon and reanimate this game like the rotted zombies our characters fight?
Yea, thou hast escaped the evil Manchus and come home to thy birthlands. Thou hast slain the evil propane dragon with only a slight singing. Wilt thou now endeavor to set us upon our quest yet again?
We beseech thee, knight of the Blessed West, come forth and shine thy GM-y goodness upon your humble minions!

God keeps smiting me. You know I went thorugh the whole thing, wrote a summary in my notebook, then it got burned. Everything burned. Notes. All of it was there. Stuff on my HD too.
I have not given up yet though.
Rail against the smiting! I just wanted you to know there is still interest out there. I'm sure a few of my co-players will say the same =)

I am writing the summary for a second time.
Watched Zombieland for motivation/momentum.

Because it has been a while, I propose that we level the characters up so you guys can refamiliarize yourselves.
For my part, all my notes are gone, so there may be a few small zombie changes. They'll still be slow and jerky... also there will still be the leader zombies that still have some congnitive function. Plus there's the new zombie type you were about to meet in the morgue--you f$##ing idiots. It's one of the great zombie archetypes... L4D players will recognize it.
And then there was...
Grampa.

I was thinking, when we started this game, PFRPG was in very early days – Alpha release I think. At the time we ‘Pathfinderised’ some of the skills – rolled MS and Hide into Stealth, Spot and Listen into Perception – but that’s about as far as we went.
Do you think it is worth doing a bit more conversion over to PF? Particularly with skills. Rolling Balance, Jump and Tumble into Acrobatics seems a good move (for my character anyway!). It may (or may not) also be worth changing over wholesale to the Pathfinder skill system? That is, max skill ranks = character level, you lose the x4 skill points at first level but get a +3 bonus to trained class skills instead.
What about CMB and CMD? Better (or worse) than the old grapple and ‘special attacks’ systems?

I think pathfinderizing the skills is a great idea.
I suppose CMB and CMD is too--I can't foresee any problems with it but I don't know it very well. Can anyone see any potential problems?

            Ok, on to making characters:
28 point buy (d20)
2nd level, half way to 3rd... whatever that is in XPs.
One free craft at max ranks, OR one free knowledge at max ranks.
Three free ranks each in Knowledge (Popular Culture) and Drive (note: you don't need a feat for regular 4 wheeled vehicle operation, but you do for motorcycles).
Everyone has the same free feat:
Resist Disease: +4 on fortitude rolls to resist infection and disease. I was going to keep this secret, but all of you know you are the sort who rarely gets sick, so.... (Great Fortitude stacks with this, but that's up to you.)

Are we going to Pathfinderise the method of determining Skill Ranks as well? eg. 1 Rank/Level + 3 bonus if it's a Class Skill. I know that might be a little bit of extra work, but I think it's a much better system. Just food for thought.
I probably won't get to Level Sam until the Weekend (although that may be a moot point soon), but I'll get on it ASAP. :)

That sounds fine. I use a generator to make up my NPCs and monsters because I don't have the time for math, but if everyone here (or even just you and moth even) think this is workable then I am fine with it.
It's not a game where I am using clear considerations of balance (meaning sometimes you seriously need to f+#~ing run), so the most important thing on this issue seems to be that you guys are all using the same system--that characters have some kind of structured equivalence.
Also, I changed something I was doing before my life went south: before I think I was taking headshots as crits. This time what I've started doing is giving the head a fraction of total HPs, so when you're capping these things you can headshot normally (w/no crit) or score the crit on the head and really splat them. Most important thing that these two results would yield significantly different results (and different lurid descriptions). Just for zombies though.

I think that is the way to go (for PCs); It probably doesn't matter much if the same system is not followed for NPCs and monsters, in theory the two systems are compatable, the Pathfinder system is just a bit 'neater'.

Either way is cool with me; I had pretty much assumed you couldn't kill them without head-shotting (or completely blowing them apart or something).
Whatever the system, the descriptions have been cool, and the appearance that shooting these things in the body has little appreciable effect makes things suitably tense and scary.

Enough damage to the body will kill them... it's just a hell of a lot of damage, yah. As in blowing them apart or cutting off their arms and legs.
