I assume that Hamar needs to stay out and take the full damage to assist in destroying the swarm? If so, he takes 42 that round, eeeshhh!

I think you get a reflex save for half. You’d still remain in your space if you succeed.

Reflex for half yes!
Justin REEEEELY needs to learn that 'exclusion from spell areas' feat. (Or get that rod!) ;P

OK, I'm just gonna lay this out here, for it to play out (or not) however it does in game,.

At this point, while Karrin still holds the number one place in Justin's heart for "Who actively scares him the most?"

If he had to actively CHOOSE that position between Karrin and Hamar,
It would be a coin toss. Seriously. O_o

(If Karrin were WATCHING him make the choice, he would say her! Justin still doesn't think (or know) if Hamar would actively seek to harm him if he were to anger the guy. But he's pretty sure Karrin would be casually beating him senseless, while thinking out loud about whether or not she should beat him!) ;P

Both are seriously understated Bad-@$$#$, with slightly different means of doing lots of physical violence.

I mean, the wizard doesn't want to tick either of them off. He likes them.

But if he HAD too, it's getting to be a tough call of who he'd be more frightened of! :P

Just sayin',.... ;)

Not sure WHY that dialogue popped into my head, maybe the casual way Hamar took NO (obvious) damage, from either swarm or fire spell, in a small room, all in one round? :)

(Regarding Main Quest Line)

<Facepalm>
um,... Yeah.
SO,...
I checked a certain wizards character sheet.
Guess what Rod he has purchased and been carrying, but has not yet used?
(Cuz his player cant keep up with all of his shiny magic toys?)

A Selective Rod (Lesser)

Yeeeeah. SO,...

The next time he catches any of you in the radius of a Fireball? (That has not had its level increased by a Feat) and you take dmg?

I fully expect Karrin to be giving him 'Training Sessions to strengthen a wizards situational awareness' ;P

I thought you all might appreciate that happy thought! ;)

Hamar would not want to mess with Karrin!

But yeah, I could see how after that interaction the Barbarian only has a few bug bites an observer would be like WTF?!

Hey all, apologies for my unannounced vanishing act this weekend.

My mom & aunt rented a condo for the holiday week, and I go tthe chance to go and visit them this weekend.

SInce I havent seen them (OR left the house except to go to work and grocery store) since my surgery a YEAR ago, I took the trip. :)

I'm back now! Catching up!

No worries. I ended up working a lot this weekend. I am heading into my at-office time, so I will try to stay current, but new maps will probably not appear until Thursday or Friday.

ROFL,

Of all the games I have played, (some more & some less) Magic the Gathering I just never really got into. Didn't even realize I had made the joke! :P

Oh yes, there was a door there too,

We were just too busy dealing with the undead beetle swarm (A La Mummy Returns) coming through the fresco on the wall to get to it yet! :)

I must admit, Of all the Halloween themed and monster movies I have seen (Most of the Horror movies unwillingly, I am NOT a big 'horror' fan)
The scenes with the flesh-burrowing beetles/scarabs in the Mummy movies probably creeped me out the most! (Along with the burrowing things in other movies)

(Things burrowing UNDER my skin? NO thank you!) ;)

I’m digging the new Disney ‘Ahsoka’ series, but it presumes you have knowledge of the Star Wars Rebels franchise. Which I do not.

Clone Wars and Rebels were both pretty good, I'm done with Disney Star Wars so my interest is zero in anything new.

Perfectly understandable, given the current state of most Disney Star Wars.

However, knowing that Pat is enjoying Asoka, and how much I did enjoy Clone wars and Rebels, I may have to give it a whirl.

Truth be told, I had/have high hopes for Asoka, especially after her appearance in Mandolorian.

Pat- IMHO, Rebels is worth the watch. I enjoyed it, and still have not watched to the end.Where apparently I missed quite a (very important) bit. Which apparently they allude to in her Mando appearance and her series. :)

I will say that although Disney has more in common with Darth Vader than Luke Skywalker, their expansion of both the MCU and Star Wars has been overall better than previous iterations. Uneven, yes, but a lot of gold among the dross

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

As a heads up - I am considering adding a few people to my faltering modern occult horror PbP- >Here<. It has suffered from neglect, but I really like the campaign and would like to move forward with it. I’m thinking 1-3 new players (we have three now). I’d rather stick to trusted players like you all rather than put out a general recruitment since I have had rather bad luck with that in recent years. The engine is PF1 , and you’d likely need a PDF of the campaign >DTRPG LINK

If you are interested you can send me a PM. Just please let me know you did! I don’t get alerts I have them. Or you can post up here.

I might be interested.
BUT I also have to be realistic about how much and what I can manage to keep up with.

(This year has taught me a LOT about 'Where reality meets fantasy'. And I dont' much like what has been revealed so far.) ;P

Have to admit, sometimes you just can't believe everything you read/listen to on the interwebs.

There has been a lot of 'Meh' (or worse) out of Disney.
But sometimes I just want to enjoy a Star Wars story. :)

And I have honestly enjoyed some of it. Very much.
(I STILL don't get all the hate for 'SOLO') O_o

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

The problem with ‘legacy’ entertainment franchises is that their fandom becomes possessive of them. And, fans being fans, it starts to become a contest to see who is the ‘purist’ fan. Thus the rampant silliness you see about ‘this isn’t really X’, or ‘franchise A is better than Franchise B’. It’s like we’ve substituted entertainment for religion and we are ready to burn the heretics.

I like Star Wars. I like Star Trek. Heck, I like Orville. Certain aspects of the franchises I like less (SW prequels, ST Discovery) but I would never presume to assume my preferences are the ‘one, true way’.

Solo was decent, it took the brunt of fans reaction from TLJ being godawful.

When you compare between franchises I agree, if one person likes one more than the other why bother comparing which is "better". But people do this with many things, who was better, Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron?

Rant Begins

When it comes to bringing franchises forward, if you're not going to respect canon, then that presents a problem for me. Even more of a problem is what Disney did with Star Wars, essentially trying to memory hole the EU, then take the position we "don't have a lot to work with" when much of the "new" stuff they did is a worse version of that EU stuff they tried to memory hole. [Edit: some of that EU stuff was also bad but it was just poorly written, not inconsistent with what came before it]. If you want to write a new space fantasy, do so. What they are doing is retreading something and trying to pretend it's the same thing it always was, it's not. You are using that IP to try and make money but not keeping the consistency in storytelling. Yes I know that the prequels bent canon, but Disney broke it.

The scene in Force Awakens when Leia ran and hugged Rey bypassing Chewie after Han's death foreshadowed for me that Disney was going to go in that direction.

End Rant

IDK. I remember as a teen walking out of RotJ and thinking ‘WTF did I just watch?’ To quote one of my heroes, ‘All Jedi had was a bunch of Muppets’.

Every iteration is going to have something someone doesn’t like. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s simpler to just enjoy what I like and scroll on from what I don’t. If someone is Fing up the franchise bad enough, I just stop watching it. I’ve done it before with books and TV series.

Oh no doubt, those Ewoks should have been Wookies. I was a bit younger than you at the time so I liked the Ewoks then, now not so much.

That's what I've done, I just don't really watch anything any longer. I create my own fantasy/sci fi content with PbPs and table top RPGs. Truth be told, I'm so busy these days with work and kids I don't have much time to spare for leisure time anyway. I suppose if I liked something enough I'd make the time, luckily I don't have to! Or perhaps I've become a dreaded Grognard....

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

I feel you there. The only reason I was able to watch ahsoka was that my car broke down this weekend, and my shade tree mechanic was busy until Sunday. Usually I have no time for TV. Which is why I’m not likely to get to SW Rebels any time soon.

I always police myself for grognardian tendencies. They pop up in any for of art appreciation. Modern movies suck, modern music sucks, modern games suck, aaaaad nauseum. What I hear in that when people my age start taking that way is ‘I’m old and I find new things threatening’.

Not to say there isn’t a lot of suckage in entertainment in general, it’s just not a generational thing. case in point

I fervently believe we live in a golden age of media. Anyone who had to deal with three tv channels or trying to record your favorite song off the radio with a cassette tape should agree. We have an embarrassment of riches.

Shadow's Status

No doubt there are a multitude of options!

I have absolutely seen things I like lately (i.e. the last few years). Bullet Train, the Gentlemen, Star Wars Rogue I, Cobra Kai, D&D 5th Edition (at least the early stuff), some of the new Magic the Gathering sets have been ridiculously awesome. I suppose lack of time is part of why I am so choosy, if I am going to spend time doing something where I could have been making money or spending that time with my kids/wife, I want it to be worth my while!

Heh, I've never seen all of that Star Wars special, but I've heard it was uh something else...

I have to agree. To all of the above. (More or less) :)

We have a plethora of riches (entertainment wise) compared to just a couple of decades ago. (YAY!)

And I did make (Lame, but fun) Audio adventures back in High school, with nothing but my portable Cassette recorder, and my record player. :)

Yes I'm 'old school', I very much recall 3+ TV stations (We also had PBS, (DR WHO!) and the first UHF station in the state close enough to my house to run a cable directly) ;P

I say enjoy it for what it is. NOT what you were HOPING it to be.
And if you dont like it, there ARE plenty of other choices. Now. :)

I admire others dedication to the genre/franchise. (I can quote almost every movie verbatim, and ther are plenty who make me look like a newb)

I read/heard an interview where the Ewoks WERE supposed to be Wookies. But by that time Lucas had already established that Wookies were technologically advanced, and had to replace them with Ewoks. (Also, merchandising.)

HEY HEY HEY! Easy there Tex!
Back in the day, starving for more Star Wars, THAT special was AWESOME! ;P

(Did it age so well? Nah. But I'll watch it again if I find it on Youtube! Just for the giggles and trip down memory lane!) :D

PS- I LUV being able to have nerd-chats with folks. Thx for this! :)

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

With the TV stations I was being a bit dramatic. We actually had six. I did live near a major market though. We had the big three ABC CBS, NBC. We also had two very nice independent stations and the PBS channel (WGBH). Our PBS channel was very nice as well. They did a lot of original programming including NOVA. (which I used to love as a kid)

Still, six stations didn’t stretch to much programming. Remember Saturday mornings? That was the only time you could get cartoons . People like to wax nostalgic about sitting up Saturday mornings to watch cartoons, but you ended up watching a lot of cartoons that weren’t all that great because that was the only cartoon on. The same with any type of programming at night. I watched a lot of iffy TV back in the day, just because I wanted to watch TV.

I saw that on the boards, TBH I was pretty surprised, but then I never really gamed at a gaming store or went to very many conventions so I had little experience with the Gamers community. I think I've been to 3 cons my entire life and I have always gamed with private groups. The one time I did "recruit" from a local game store the guy was indeed a complete jackass. Outside of gaming in my one group my time when I was younger was focused on school, working out, or chasing chicks.

Patrick Curtin wrote:

Heheh, I wasn't.

We only Had 3 stations for the longest time. THEN we discovered PBS (Where I was introduced to "Electric Company' and 'Sesame Street', which made me the reading maniac I am today!) :)
Which led me to discover Dr Who. (Although NOVA WAS pretty cool too.) ;)

THEN, MUCH later, when I was in Middle School (so LATE 70's) we got our first UHF station. Which really was so close to our neighborhood that we could have ran a cable from their tower directly to our house. THAT station reception was terrific!
(First time I got to see the series 'Space 1999', which as a young nerd I had heard of, but never been able to see before!)

Saturday morning cartoons were great! We had 3 stations competing for your viewing, so lots of choices. (I LOVED when the first clunky, hard-wired, cable box came out. Made channel hopping SO much easier!) ;)
We could also watch cartoons after school, but those were much more limited, and tended towards younger kids. So I memorized every hanna-barberra cartoon, bugs bunny, three stooges, etc.
AH, those were the days! ;P
