I think after trying a few mock characters and advancing them, I feel that the current proposition for the number of trained skills are too many. By the time a rogue is just 10 with even just a moderate INT of 12, he has 14 fully trained skills. By the time he's 20th he has 19!
I think gaining a new trained skill at every even level is too frequent. I think Every 4 levels is probably more appropriate - or as an alternative, perhaps after 3 levels of a particular class you gain another (this is a boon for non-multiclassed).
I know that the recent 1.1 Alpha mentioned that the skills are getting a rehaul - so this could already be the mindset; but I figured I'd share my opinion nonetheless - in case it isn't.

Look at the Design Focus thread about skills, it contains several alternatives for the current approach.
One I find particularly good:
The number of skill points you get at first level is different now:
Fighters (and everyone else with 2 skills at 1st-level) get 2 at 1st level, and another every 4 levels
Barbarians (and everyone else with 4 skills at 1st-level) get 3 at 1st level, and another every 3 levels
Rangers and Rogues (and everyone else with 6 or more skills at first level) get 4 at 1st level, and another every 2 levels.
I also solves the problem in the current system that makes your class choice irrelevant after 1st-level (at least where skills are concerned)
