I'm still reading the free Pathfinder Alpha RPG at this time but it may be that it isnt there. If there are not Prestiege Classes then we have one option left:
The Metaclass
That means we take a few of the core classes and put them together to make a new class. So advancement in the Metaclass comes down to equan advancement in the core classes (the Exp is twice as expensive but the class is more powerful).
Warden - Druid/Fighter
Shadowblade - Fighter/Thief
Scout - Fighter/Thief
Crusader - Fighter/Cleric
Witch - Druid/Sorcerer
Shaman - Wizard(Necromancy)/Cleric(Death)
The core classes offer pretty much anything you want if you combine them.

I would like to see Prestige Classes become game specific functions. Such as a Sable Company Ranger, or a Hellknight, or Red Lotus Assassin.
These Prestige Classes fill a specific role in the campaign. To join a Prestige class will require very specific and challenging requirements. In return you get a great deal of power. But the class is limited to only 5 levels.
I think one of the fundamental flaws with Prestige Classes is that they try to balance with the core classes. If I want a Prestige Class, I don't want to be balanced, I want POWER.
Which is why the class is limited to only 5 levels and requires tough entry requirements.
I would suggest no Prestige Class be available before lvl 10.
Just my take on it :)

I really like (and have really liked for some time now) the idea of Prestige Classes being limited to only 5 levels. There are a few 10 lvl PrCs that I like, but on the whole the ones I tend to like the best are the 5 lvl ones. I don't necessarily agree with the tough entry requirements though. Some of the requirements are tough enough already. They do favour 1 class over another.
The lvl 10 availability cap I'm not too sure about though either. In a world where lvl 12 is quite powerful, restricting PrC to above lvl 10 removes them from the reach of most NPCs.
