I dunno how many units Paizo will have to move to make a living, but isn't PF in its third printing now? And then there's the modules, aids, the Planet Stories...
And PF deserves success. It just really... good. Better than the old D&D iterations, better than the WoD subsystems and, I think, better than 4E. And it's a heck of a lot better than old faves like RuneQuest, RoleMaster or GURPS. In a just world it should be successful.

Agreed on counts, though I think what will make (is making?) PFRPG so successful is not the system itself (it’s a great system, but it derives from an already good system, and still is not perfect) but the fantastic settings and adventures that Paizo puts out. I really haven’t seen any company matching this quality, at least when it comes to adventures. And it is probably a lot easier to play in these adventures and setting using the current rule set rather than trying to convert it to something else.

Agreed. PF is essentially a result of multiple refining iterations of a very successful gaming system and as level-based, class-driven systems go, it's about as good as it gets. But I agree with you that the real stroke of genius from the mad Paizo labs was to make it fully compatible with all the old D&D/AD&D stuff while at the same time employing an all-star cast to write new products. I occasionally pick up stuff from Necromancer or Green Ronin if I find it on sale, but it is nowhere near as good as what Paizo puts out.

Yeah I have to say I really don't care about the underlying mechanics. It's the story that counts. And the Paizo crew are master storytellers. The sweetest, most streamlined mechanics won't save you if you have a boring story to tell ...

Heh. If you are Fanbois, then either I am too,
OR I am a Lose-air.
I think I prefer fanboy. ;P
I have to admit, While there are a few old adventures that will always be a 'Happy Place' memory for me, it was probably because of my gaming group, not necessarily the actual module. PF is most assuredly putting out the most(est) consistently good, entertaining, well-thought-out and fun-to-play adventures than anybody else, as far as I have seen. And I have been window shopping (or PC-screen shopping) quite a bit lately,...

Nope, officially she is slowly getting over pleurisy with lots of drugs to help. Chest infections are her bugbear (this was her third in the nine months) and obviously the worst. Stems from a scuba diving accident when she was 18.
But she wanted to a girl so all that pales next to the big grin she has on her face tonight.
Cheers

Great. Thanks for the congratz etc.
As we speak she is having a heel prick test and screaming blue murder. But so far she is sleeping and feeding much better than the first one. I hope it continues.
Seem to be having a constant stream of visitors this week (its half-term for most schools) so my computer time is still a bit limited. And the amount of pink clothing in the house is ridiculous, everyone sorry every woman is buying stuff. Like a headband? A headband when my kid has one inch hair? Go figure.
I guess my life will never be the same.
Cheers

No worries Heathy-Monster!
Just take care of Momma-wolf and the puppies. We'll be around when you get everyone up and on their feet again!
(Of course, by then YOU'LL need a doctor and some time off!) ;P
Hope everyone gets all better soon!
BTW, I'm in the middle of my own little 'Summer-Insanity-schedule-of doom!' thing going on here. So If I fall off of the radar, I'll be back in a day or two, promise! :)

The missus and I went and saw the Prince Of Persia movie today. Though certainly not high art (I tend to say that about a lot of the movies I see, don't I?), I thought it was surprisingly well put together, especialy considering that it is based on a video game. 90 minutes well wasted.

Movies, movies, movies... We saw the new Shrek movie yesterday (in 3D!), and it was very good - it might actually be my favourite installment in the series. Which brings up a pet peeve of mine: voice casting in animated movies. Though there are some obvious exceptions (Christopher Lee, Jeremy Irons and James Earl Jones come to mind), I can't for the life of me fathom why studios hire mainstream movie stars to provide voices for animated movies. Does anyone care that Cameron Diaz is the voice of the princess? Mike Myers' fake demi-Irish brogue gets old after a while, so why not hire a real Irishman? Who goes to see Shrek or Ice Age or any movie like that because of the name recognition factor associated with the voice talent???

Ragadolf |

I agree Vatt, mostly.
;P
Unfortunately, name recognition DOES draw a crowd! Although they might make more money if they hired Non-'name' actors to do the roles.
But you have to admit, whether or not you recognize the voices, it might not be the same with different actors in the roles. Maybe,...
Anyway, I'm glad you gave the last Shrek movie the thumbs-up! Because I was afraid that maybe it might be a dud after the enjoyability of the first three.

Doesn't look like too nice of a summer movie season.

Ended up sleeping all evening, then sick daughter woke me up which explains my current owlishness.
I'll get Rodergo leveled up tomorrow night.
