I dunno - it's kind of fun to get there and after the big crash and poke the bits as they twitch feebly in the wreckage. Plus, when people start banging on about "intellectual honesty" the ghost of Frank appears in my vision.
I quite like CWM. He obviously is too thin-skinned, and a tad lacking in humour, but I see nothing really wrong in asking people to be polite. If he could muster a few decent put-downs instead of coming on holier than thou, he'd be fine.
I quite like CWM.

I just took a quick look at the insult thread, and I thought it was mildly amusing that he put up a 'please be nice' thread and it fell apart before five posts. I don't follow the 4ed threads, so I don't know Crosswiredmind from Adam, but it is pretty obvious that he has some devoted enemies... It feels like that gamer connection thread where one guy was looking for players "because his old group fell apart" and then his players started posting on the thread, saying the group disbanded because he was an a*%*%$$ and a lousy DM. Ouch!
I understand his position, though - there are some posters that I just can't deal with, and it would be nice if we all could just coexist rather than scream and yell and fling poo at each other.

I don't think 3x magic is Vancian enough. I think calling 3x magic "Vancian" is missing the point.

I'm not sure but I may have been the first to put the boots to him for making gross and inaccurate generalizations and for being a condescending prick. When he started back-pedaling and denying things he had posted I just stopped arguing with him.
He's obviously tried to be a little more precise since then and the guy's no fool, to be sure, but he still gives me every reason to believe that he has a raging ego problem.
I don't see a concentrated effort against the "4e" thread section. It's one or two goofballs anymore.

I have a compilation too, but never got to the bits with Vancian magic in - I read the unconnected stories first, then the two Cugel the Clever collections, and got a bit burnt out and put it down. Good stuff, though - the one with the monster that collects eyeballs and cannot be evaded creeped me out as a kid.
The other vance (sic) gets on my wick a tad. He even quoted the Oberoni Fallacy, which really is a great way to annoy me. I've never had problems with CWM - he's always been polite to me and I've not really had problems with the things he says, though I ahven't made much of a study of them. 3.5 isn't perfect, so he is entitled to say so, I guess. It's just the system I understand best, it pretty much does the things I want in a game, so I'm inclined to stick with it, warts and all.
Hey gang...I'm sorry for my small absence. A combination of working right through the Independence Day holiday and a last-minute, out of town trip on Saturday-Sunday left me pretty much beat and resting on Monday.
I see a conversation about CMW has occurred. Despite never "facing-off" with the guy - the less said by me the better. Just one of those people who gets under your skin, I guess.
Anyhow, for those who had some holiday time (or not), hope you all had fun.

That's not as funny as the thread where all the players were b+%$%ing about their terrible railroady DM, and were informed that he had obviously stolen the plot and the map from an old SNES game.

Wow, man, I didn't realize he was that much of an unbearable jackass.
The funniest part is I've got him hurling nasty personal remarks at me without making any such remarks about him, although I did gross everyone out at his expense, which is not to admit that I was trolling, but it was a nice side benefit of what I was doing there (I was just defending a reasonable view posted by Kirth and I).
