THe above mentioned DR thing,
Is it just me, or is it look like the old 1E & 2E rules?
For those of you who remember, there were monsters that could only be hurt by spells or a magic weapon of a certain "+" or higher. That rule was replaced by the "DR/special materials" rules.
On the one hand, I can see that a powerful magic weapon could either be made from, or be powerful enough to overcome certain DR's. BUT on the other hand, the new DR/special material rules were made to replace that old system for a reason! (It was broken!) The way it stands now, anyone can still hurt a monster with DR, you just have to hurt it a lot more unless you have the right weapon!
I wouldn't personally be in a hurry to move to the above post. Remember that a +1 or better weapon is magical, and therefore already overcomes "DR/Magic". And you can already make a weapon out of special materials.
I dunno,... I wouldn't be in a hurry to adopt the "+5 overcomes anything" system just yet.
My 2cp,... ;)

Interesting--using the house as a base of operations--
Sounds fun, in a reverse dungeon sort of way...;)
Not trying to threaten you out of the house or anything; if that sounds suckass I won't throw a crew of creepy crawlies at you every half hour if I roll a 10% on some freakshow wandering monster chart.
Why doesn't it ever occur to me what the players will think of?

Aaagh! I am a grognard!
Naah, good point.
I'll shoot those replacement rules.

Where's all this coming from about magic weapons and DR?

I never read Neth's posts anyway.

I saw I Am Legend on the plane home. I've read the Richard Matheson original, which differs in certain key aspects, but overall I liked it.

Haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like a good one. I'll probably catch it when it comes out on dvd here (which sould be quite soon I'd imagine).
Alright, Beldan is levelled, all apart from his 3rd level feat. If anyone's got any suggestions Im happy to hear them, although I'm probably sticking to phb only at this point.

You guys go over to the Lizard Boat?
Kialee greets you. The place isn't that busy; it's coming on noon.
There's one or two salts in there.
The monitor hisses at Gittik.
"Hush now, you little mischiefmaker. Stiggy! Oh, you three look a mess. You've been at a scrap. Hey, there's just three of ye....the others...okay? What's what?"
"They're all dead. Gimme a f!%~ing beer."

I'm always partial to Improved Initiative or Iron Will. The latter might not really suit Beldan's personality, though.

This stuff was on Stig's character sheet, I'm not sure how much was repeated...
herbs and spices(100gp)
masterwork rapier(duelist)
masterwork dagger(duelist)
masterwork chain shirt(samurai)
masterwork katana(samurai)
masterwork battleaxe(berserk northman)
About 400 gold pieces in coin and other stuff.
50 gp
mwork heavy flail (a medium sized dude can wield 2-handed)
a pouch with 5 pearls; worth about....hmm....100 g.p. each
monk:
a set of gold teeth; 200 g.p.
the other guys:
mwork long sword
mwork short sword(small sized from the halfling rogue)
the halfling had two potions which she says are "potions of cat's grace."
400 g.p. in misc. coin and tradable items of ltd. interest
2x150 g.p. diamond earrings (on the foppish trashtalking rapierman)
There's about 2,000 g.p.(retail) in kegs of rum, beer, bolts of cloth, and kegs of vinegar; smuggler's goods
The table in the room where the halfling was is covered with black tarry substance in forearm-sized rolls of paper; some were being put into sealed glass jars and put in the vinegar kegs.
