So ... when do we get to kick some ghoulish ass? :-)

Dark Archive

Let's take some time to polish PCs and their backgrounds before we plunge into the game.

But rest assured that you guys will be kicking some ghoulish ass. Though that is not necessarily the safest thing to do in Ravenloft at 1st level.

EDIT: It's been a long day. I gotta sleep guys.

What does character look like?
Tall and lithe with pale skin, a goatee and long brown hair. His eyes are sort of rust colored not quite red but not quite silver. He wears leather armor a cape and hide his lower face with a scarf to conceal his identity.
Where is the character's family?
When he was young Marius's family all burned to death in a fire that destroyed his ancestral home. He became a penniless pauper who learned the ways of the street. stealing from others to feed himself.
What is his greatest love?
Women, gold and drink though not necessarily in that order.
What is his greatest regret?
The death of his family.
What makes his skin crawl?
Tight confining spaces like coffins.
What is his greatest shame?
He caused the fire that killed his family.
What fascinates your character?
gold and power
What are his habits?
He drinks to forget the past, and steals to survive, escape his past
What are his secrets?
His pact with a dark specter that gave him his strange beguiling abilities and that he caused the fire that killed his family
Is he rational or passionate?
Passionate about life and all the things he has yet to experience before the grave takes him
Is he sophisticated or superstitious?
Superstitious
How strong is his faith?
He lacks the time or want to worship anything aside from his ego.
How self-confident is your character?
Pretty self-confident to the point of having quite an ego.
What drives your character to adventure?
A lack of anything better to do and a want to be free of his past that he can't seem to get rid of in Dementlieu

Okay I gotta admit I am stunned to be able to play a Psi in Ravenloft. I shall continue to think deeply about the implications of this so that it neither disrupts the ambiance nor pisses off the Mists.

Ranger here. Undecided at this stage whether he'll be more into bows or melee. Thinking the former, but depending on how other things shape up, could go the latter.

I'll post some ravenloft specific rules here in the weekend for the ready reference of everyone.

    Female Kobold

Great. What should we do about the Orcish language? And the 'Orc Blood' ability?

    What does character look like?
Grim is obviously of fey heritage, but without any of the beauty, elegance and social graces. He is lean and muscular, built on powerful bones, and carries a strong brow under which he rarely composes an expression that suggests anything other than anger. His large, pale-green eyes eerily suggest something other than fey ancestry.

    The rest is for Rad:

    Spoiler:

    Where is the character's family?
Dead. His parents were burned at the stake while Grimnebulin watched, long before he was even able to conceive the hate and cruelty of the mob which cast them into the pyre.
    What is his greatest love?
The old witch, Geeta, who rescued him from the mob that took his parents and raised him is like a mother to him. He worries about her constantly but understands that she is so old he will probably never see her again.
    What is his greatest regret?
That he has not realized the dreams he has nightly--dreams of burning the village in which he was born to the ground.
    What makes his skin crawl?
    Executions.
    What is his greatest shame?
    See secrets.
    What fascinates your character?
    Sharp blades.
    What are his habits?
When he has nothing other to do he obsessively sharpens his sword.
    Is he rational or passionate?
Grim is usually rational... until, that is, he is witness to mob mentality and societal cruelty.
    Is he sophisticated or superstitious?
He's not well educated, but he bows before no spirits or gods.
    How strong is his faith?
He has no faith in anything other than himself.
    How self-confident is your character?
    Very.
What drives your character to adventure?
    Repressed rage.
    What are his secrets?
Grim's parents were not of the same race... his mother was an elf, yes, but he never tells the truth, that his father was caliban. The shame he feels at this is in constant conflict with his sense of loss.

Question: Who doesn't have a copy of the Ravenloft Player's Handbook published by Sword and Sorcery?

This will not disqualify you. I just want to make sure everyone has access to the information.

    Liberty's Edge

    Male Mothman Expert 5

    I do not.

A guy in my old gaming group does, but I don't see him regularly enough these days to really borrow it.

I'm reasonably familiar with second edition, pre- grand conjunction Ravenloft, and have played a few games of 3.5 Ravenloft and flipped through the swords & sorcery books.

I have read it cover to cover and have a pretty good memory of it.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

I have access to a copy but haven't read it.

Let me have a look... Male it would seem Giant Dwarf... yup Geek 8/Jock 4 (Am. Football)

I have the 3.0 campaign book, but from your first post it seemed as if there's a 3.5 version?
Just to check if it's the same version we have the ISBN# on the one I have is: 1-58846-075-4
Haven't read it fully yet, but I also have pretty much every 2nd edition Ravenloft book published (well, had, sold a couple of the adventures).

    Dark Archive

    Its ISBN 1-58846-091-6

I have the 3.0 version, because I couldn't get the 3.5 one. I'm pretty familiar with the setting.

    Grimwald-Cleric-healer/rebuker
    Dayenn-Beguiler-caster
    Nathaniel-Ranger-tracker-ranged combat?

    I thought we had 7?

    Dark Archive

Oliver has not posted in. I'll give him till Monday. Luckily, we have a long weekend here in the Philippines.

Before I go hard on my background, have you decided where you want to start us, geographically speaking?

    Dark Archive

Zherisia sounds nice. But I also like Dementlieu and Souragne. Will finalize this weekend.

Hi, I will be on vacation during the weekend (visiting some old friends who moved away last year) and will come home on Sunday evening (German time). I will be going for bard, Race not yet clear, probably human (I have difficulties finalizing my Artificer 5, too many items...).

A prospective domain lord. Rubs hands together.

Ok will be setting the game in the capital of dementlieu. There is a thriving community of stage magicians there, I recall. Will post the name later.

Players should include a reason why their characters are there. Some may be there for work, others for reasons more personal like tracking the person responsible for some past tragedy. But I leave that up to you guys.

Not if Grimnebulin accidentally decapitates him. Happens now and then.
