Ohhh, Ravenloft!
I'm definitely interested, although I haven't had a chance to read up on the "new" d20 rules for the setting.
Quick character concept:
Coming out of retirement cleric or fighter.
I like to base my characters on drawings/paintings, so here's what I'm basing the character on.
As for the details, as Mothman said, that depends on the campaign circumstances.

Grimwald Obesken
Please answer the following:
What does character look like?
Craggy and stout old guy with white hair and a thick moustache. Link to picture.
Where is the character's family?
Wife recently died
What is his greatest love?
Besides his recently deceased wife and lost son, it's watching a quiet sundown in his rocking chair, smoking a pipe of brandy-root.
What is his greatest regret?
Not being able to dispel the evil that overtook his wife's mind. Not being able to find his lost son.
What makes his skin crawl?
Seeing someone lose his or her mind - reminds him of how his wife died.
What is his greatest shame?
The short affair he had with the mayor's daughter when he was young and newlywed.
What fascinates your character?
The flickering flame seems to hold secrets and truths one might discern.
What are his habits?
Stroking his moustache when thinking. Usually has a shot of grogg along with a pipe before bed.
What are his secrets?
His old affair.
Is he rational or passionate?
Usually rational.
Is he sophisticated or superstitious?
Usually has a very down to earth attitude towards most supernatural things, but he knows there are some things that he can't explain.
How strong is his faith?
Used to be very strong, however the inability to help his wife has left him doubting from time to time.
How self-confident is your character?
Very, when it comes to his physical abilities.
What drives your character to adventure?
The desire for revenge, something must be responsible for his wife's death and he intends to find out what it is and destroy it, if it's the last thing he'll do.

I'm thinking of a character that will work mechanically like a bard but is more of hypnotist/alienist type character. His 'spells' will be more a matter of hypnosis. He will invest heavily in sense motive, bluff, concentration, Decipher Script, gather Information, Knowledge (???), Speak Language (None).
Professor* Dayenn Naight
* His is an academic outcast and has no real students but calls himself professor nonetheless.
Please answer the following:
What does character look like?
-- On the slightly pudgy side with dark hair and a short beard ... when he's smiling, he seems warm like a big teddy bear but when he scowls he seems ogreishly cruel
Where is the character's family?
-- His parents left him a tidy inheritance before they passed on which he has almost completely spent on his studies. He has been intending to propose to the lovely young woman who prepares his meals but hasn't got around to it and besides, his studies really should come first.
What is his greatest love?
-- His studies into the human mind. Dayenn holds some radical beliefs about the human mind and our ability to control it. He is convinced that through an authoritative voice and certain hand gestures he could gain control over the minds of others.
What is his greatest regret?
-- Sharing his ideas too early with others at the bardic college in Kartakass which earned him nothing but scorn. "Those dim-witted, song slinging little street waifs have no idea ... no idea! of the power they have neglected!!"
What makes his skin crawl?
-- Unconsciousness. He is terrified of the idea of being alive and yet unable to move or be aware of his surroundings. He dislikes sleep and avoids alcohol.
What is his greatest shame?
-- He has 'tested' out some of his 'mind-control' abilities on those of weak character and morals in his neighbourhood. But we don't need to sully ourselves with that conversation.
What fascinates your character?
-- The way people think and how little they seem to understand themselves.
What are his habits?
-- He is in the habit of sitting at his desk writing for much of the day. He visits the library after lunch and unless he finds work by an unusually bright scholar who shares his interest, returns in disgust before dinner time. For relaxation, he sometimes takes his desk out on the balcony and works from there.
What are his secrets?
-- See his greatest shame above.
Is he rational or passionate?
-- He is both. He makes passionate intuitive leaps but then tries to prove them using reason.
Is he sophisticated or superstitious?
-- Superstition is a weakness of character and probably demonstrates his theory that 'we know not ourselves'
How strong is his faith?
-- He has great faith in his academic theories but little else. There may be gods but they have little time for one another.
How self-confident is your character?
-- He borders on arrogance when it has anything to do with intellectual matters but he believes in the value of listening (as a research method and a cure) which tempers his arrogance.
What drives your character to adventure?
-- He has given up on all known scholars and has begun to seek those hidden pockets of knowledge. Surely someone must have travelled on this intellectual voyage before.

That sounds mechanically like a beguiler (PHB II). Though a mountebank or a jester from Dragon Compendium might also fit the bill. You might also try the savant (Dragon Compendium) or the dark archivist from Heroes of Horror.

Beguiler sounds good. Don't suppose you'll allow hypnosis as a class skill? Swap out a couple of others such as 'tumble' and 'use magic device'?
I'll get cracking on this.

Rad, would it be possible to know what the title of the campaign will be in the Play by Post threads? I know it's too late to participate, but I'd love to read along and see how things go.
I've never pbp'd before, and would like to see how Ravenloft would flow in that format - especially since I'm a Ravenloft junky from way back. ; )
Thanks in advance!

Twiceborn, Mr. Shiny, the group is presently at seven. I'll place you guys in the alternates list, if that's ok with you?
To everyone, no domain chosen yet.
Alternates is OK, though you might want to take me off that list due to the fact that I can't for the life of me find my Ravenloft stuff.

Hey Rad, I would love to be an alternate also. Ravenloft was always my favourite 2e setting!
I don't have any of the 3.5 Ravenloft stuff (other than Masque of the Red Death), but I do have a crapload of 2e, so I know the basics of the setting.Cheers =)
