Wait - I just found out there is a huge multinational money grab conspiracy happening soon! Year 2007 has been working just fine for me. Now I hear that version 2008 is coming out and I will have to buy all new calendars and organizers. Don't they realize how angry that will make some people. Why can't we just keep 2007 and add a few house rules? I guess I will just stick with 2007 as long as I can. I have not even seen 2008 yet, but I can only speculate that it will render all my 2007 info useless.

(Very much tougue in cheek)

Happy New Year everyone!
Lori

It's on
happy new year

You know, DI is not integral to playing 2008.

Heathy, you know that we won't be able to figure out Leap Year errata without the DI.

I heard that Paizo hasn't even seen the 2008 calendar yet. If that's true than this whole thread may be unnecessary because y'all know you'll stay in 2007 until Paizo tells you it is 2008. I heard they may even skip 2008 and wait for 2009. (I know they have a lot of ideas for 2008 but some of it sounded very tentative).

Do we have any confirmation that Paizo is running with 2008 at all?

From what we've seen so far, 2008 blows; but I'm still hoping it's gonna be awesome. Obviously, if I had a brain, I should wait until 2008 is over, when we've seen the whole year in context, to know whether I want to try it or not.

Scarab Sages

You don't own either 2007 or 2008. The powers that be have made their decision and we will either have to accept it or be stuck in the past. Besides, 2007 has obviously had its day and is in need of a major overhaul. Personally, I like a lot of changes that are being made.

Happy New Years :)

Silence! All of you! You are not entitled to your wild speculation on 2008 until it is out. Until then, it is better than sliced bread.

Why do so many people *hate* 2008?

You know, they're just going to come out with a 2009 in a year or so.

I don't know what you people are complaining about. You're already changers.

My group is still using 1983, and we're perfectly satisfied with it.

Please excuse the purple Ditto masters.

Dude, that Big Brother junk never happened. It was just a novel, or a splatbook or something.

2008.5

Sovereign Court

2007 or 2008-- it doesn't matter. It's MY year and I'll do what I want with it. Personally, I think I'll stick with '07 but steal all the good parts of '08. My group has been using a homebrewed 2007.5 with a few dates copped from '03 and '06.

The Chinese year is better anyway. Who is up for some Year of the Rat?

Zootcat. Call it what you want but if you put together a mishmash of stuff from different years, you aren't really playing the real game. That kind of thinking just lends itself munchkinism. Can you imagine using mortgage rates from 2006 in 2008! Talk about Monty-haulism!!

Sovereign Court

I hear that they are taking weeks out of 2008 and putting in fortnights. But fortnights were never meant to be core! And weeks have been a calendar tradition since Gregory Gygax invented 1582. What are they thinking? Personally, I'm keeping weeks in MY year.

No problem. I'll just increase the CR of the dates I throw at my players.

I hear there won’t be any mortgages in 2008.

Heathansson, Tyler Duerdan says you are forgetting the first and second rule of Fight Club.

... ahh, pooh. I did it too now.

Liberty's Edge

Great. Use our real names.

I am also the reason there is a label on Preperation H that states, “Not for oral use.”

Dude ripped the tag off a matress, heard a knock at the door, flushed the tag and jumped out the window.

I hear they changed the rules of Fight Club dramatically in 2008. Can we really call it Fight Club in 2008 if that's the case?

No worries. They'll soon be replaced with yard tieflings.

It's FUN Club.

They zoned Greyhawk Lane for commercial.

Liberty's Edge

Great. Another Starbuck's. I need a coffee refill every 100 yards.

At least a refill will not provoke an AoO anymore.

They're all in their lairs now. Listen for the zerberting.

I heard they're making yard gnomes a "core race" in 2008! And changing their name to "lawnies"! Clearly 2008 will be crap. I am never buying that s%%$.

Hopefully all these negative reactions to 2008 will cause people to finally try something other than Gregorian.

It's still 1428 in the Hijri calendar.

Preach on, brother man!

Liberty's Edge

Well, call me a traitor, but I just had to go and buy a 2008 calendar. Had to see what the changes were before I could fully comment, you know. I know, I know...buying this thing just encourages them to produce more changes in the future. But I don't want to be left behind... Ah, the peer pressure. I've even adopted some of the revisions in my home game. (Dated that check I wrote today 01/02/08.) Can't go back now.

2008 lemming!

Former VP of Finance

They say that it's impossible to convert between 2007 and 2008, but I find that if I just put a little ball on the bottom of my seven and close up the top onto that, you can hardly tell at all that the eight used to be a seven.

I just don't know what to do about this extra day in February, though. Feels like just a marketing gimmick to me, so I'm going to house rule the old number of days back in.

They tried the whole leap-year thing back in 2004, but it clearly wasn't worth it because they didn't keep it for the next 3 editions. There's no reason whatsoever to bring it back, they're just running out of new ideas. Which is why we should stay with the old 2007!

I hear 2008 is going to be completely digital.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

The whole thing is just a reprint of 1980 with some new art. They're just trying to push the digital version to rope in new customers.

I do not know, why there's all the hate for 2008.

They are also going to include a free bonus day.
You cannot go wrong with that...

Has anyone noticed the number creep factor? I remember, when I started out it was 1969. And calculating you age was hard, but we used smaller number (current year-year of birth). Know, it's 2008! Same darn formula (current year-year of birth) but bigger numbers involved. 2008 is all about making kids feel good with big numbers.

I am sticking with True2000

The worst part about 2008 is its marketing campaign. I mean really, they talk a lot generalities about 2008 but they aren't revealing much of its actual content. It's insulting!

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Am I the only one still playing 2007? ...

Anyone? ...

Seems like I am. Someday you'll realize the mistake you made. Just you wait until they bring out 2009 and then you'll know how it feels to be laughed at and called a Grognard...

Again...2008.5

We Discordians are in 3174. Moreover, we have five months of seventy-three days each, and our handling of 'leap year' is handled with Saint Tibb's Day, sandwiched between Chaos 59 and Chaos 60 without having any effect on the numeric values at all.

Clearly our calender is superior to this old hat Gregorian-style!

2008 will not have December. You will have to subscribe to Monthly Management Initiative (MMI) to have access to December. You will also have to pay extra for the Christmas add on as Hanukah will be the core holiday.
