I chose Riley for my Paizo forum name because Riley is my ENWorld forum name.
I chose Riley as my ENWorld forum name so I could amuse my friends by posting in-character in my campaign's Story Hour thread.
Riley died a week after my first post.
So living the life of Riley aint all it's cracked up to be.
Paris Crenshaw Contributor |
It's my real name. Not sure why I decided to go with that, here. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with people stalking me...or worse, thinking I'm a female. I'm assuming that's because most gamers are educated enough to know that Paris has been a male name going all the way back to Greek mythology. (Maybe not the most flattering reference, though, considering the Trojan prince's reputation. The really funny thing is that my wife's name really is Helen...and no, that's not why we got married.)
On most other boards, I'm either "Niveria" or "Niverian." Niveria is the name of a science-fantasy setting I created back in the mid-90's. I thought I had picked a random grouping of sounds. Of course, as is often the case with my "made up" words, I later found out that niveria is actually a genus of mollusk. I decided to accept the irony and leave the name as is.
Lord Snorkus |
Lord Snorkus is actually my Boston Terrier's AKC name (actually the full name is Lord Snorkus of Goblinwood). I don't know why I decided to post under the name, but it always seemed to be a good name for a comic-relief type villian, one always trying to come up with a dastardly plan that falls just short of success.
Fizzban |
Because I'm the avatar of Paladine the god of light, dragons, elves, paladins, and all around goodness.
I have just always liked the character of Fizzban in the Dragonlance series. I think I was on a DL kick 2 and half years ago when I started my account.
Fizz
Oh sorry for my lack of posting lately, Between real life and fourth ed. I've stopped most things D&D related. Hopefully it'll pick up after the new year.
Dragnmoon |
Ok, I'm curious about some of you, why did you select the particular name your using on the Paizo D&D threads? What was the reason or madness behind your selection?
Humor me.....
Back around 95 or so I (by I I mean my Mother since I was only 12 or 13) got AOL Online (maybe 96) And I was big into Dungeon and Dragons and Loved Astronomy so I wanted a User name that had both.
My first choice was Dragonmoon, but back then AOL only allowed a 9 character user name so I cut out the o in Dragon and I got Dragnmoon. It has stuck ever since.
Modera |
Hmm, I used this name since I first got on the net in 1997.
I used it ever since and it somehow developed a life of its own...:)I'm no drunkard and my sn isn't supposed to promote drinking in any way.
I just liked the sound of the word back then (and still do) and I didn't had time to come up with something more creative.
It was in an internet café and they charged a small fortune for every 15 minutes on the net.
Regarding the circumstances it could be worse...:)I tried absinth once while on vacation in spain and I found the taste quite awful... :D
Depends on the brand I find. Personally, I drink about a glass or two every month if I go out and want to have something other than a manhattan.
Currently, I have a bottle of Hills, which I find that if you make it into an Absinth American and sip it, it's nice. Though I do like licorice.
Mucus von Spidtle |
My real name is Mark and my grandmother used to call me Marcus Welby (some doctor show) because I seemed to remind her of the guy. Well a highschool friend, Garp, heard this and decided that it was a good idea to change it to Mucus as teenagers are wont to do, and it stuck. Then at my job another friend heard Garp calling me Mucus and decided that it sounded like a good German name or something so added von Spidtle. And I've had the good fortune to have it stick ever since ;-)
bad German accent/
I prever Baron von Spidtle though, yavol?
/bad German accent (and spelling)

Ok, I'm curious about some of you, why did you select the particular name your using on the Paizo D&D threads? What was the reason or madness behind your selection?
Mine is derived from an ancient text (yea, right, the original Fiend Folio published in the mid 80's) it's the really old version of 'half-demon' from the Classic Version of D&D. Funnily enough, I thought more people would know.
I guess I should not have to mention that Lilith is supposed to be me mum, though I don't think she'll confess to it.Pinky Narfanek |
I use this name and one other in most cases.
On a couple other boards (where I have my own avatar) it makes a bit more sense, but it comes from a picture that I saw wherin Pinky and The Brain dressed up as Kosh Naranek and Londo Mollari (Babylon 5).
Since I'm:
A) not bent on taking over the world (or the galaxy)
B) not known for my ability to make sense, and
C) TROZ!
So I went with Pinky.
BenS |
Ben....how about...
Ben There Done That?, Once Bitten Twice Shy?, or maybe Quiet Guy/Good Listener?
If they all lousy, I apologize. Thought maybe you'd want something not totally outrageous, maybe a little bit on the nice guy side.
Eileen, you didn't really post that at 3 a.m., did you? (Or maybe you're not on the West Coast.) Anyway, as Plunging Forward pointed out a few posts later, I'd have to be careful w/ a new forum name or else find myself the center of unwanted attention :) But seriously, I think I'll stick w/ what I've been using. I was just kidding about the "lack of imagination" when I first posted. Though if I could go back in time and start over on the Paizo boards, I'd probably pick something akin to your screen name, i.e., related to our beloved Greyhawk. Like, I don't know, "Hopping Prophet" :)

Ben...Hope I didn't overstep my bounds with the name thing...I did stay up until about 5:00 though (in the morning) wracking my brain. As a result, I failed to get anything done around here....oh well.
Actually I get off work at 3:30 in the morning and go to bed around 5:30 so it really was just a normal part of my routine. I'm not from the west coast, I'm from Minnesota.
kreeg_of_vassa |
Kreeg is the name of my first chracter and was taken from a Hellboy character that was a cybernetic/Frankenstein-Monster ape (Kriegaffe= War Ape)... Thought it was fitting for a half-orc barbarian, and Vassa is the town he is from in FR. The avatar, I'm not sure, but i thought it was dang cute from a morticans point of view.
Tobus Neth |
*As for the History of the Tobus Neth name; I began playing D&D in the october of 1980-I was a rockn roll raised teenager, the cover of Molly hatchets album covers inspired his name. He was Tobus Neth he began as a NE fighter;(He wielded 2, 2 handed swords with no penalty. He stood 7'8 and weight 367 lbs of pure Muscle.
My first dm Joe was the mentor of us all, he worked the game to be entertaining and fun and not rules burdened. He never let players know each others alignments.
Tobus Neth went on a 12 adventures(In Joes campaign, back then we would play characters with whatever DM was around that Saturday sometimes Joe,John or Bill. When I started Dm I made it clear that characters could no longer jump from Dm to Dm, which explains the monty hall treasure!) journey that ended with his head being cut off. He was slain at the City of Elredd on the Wild Coast by his own henchmen The half-elf Balfasar fighter/magic-user 9/13th/CE-played by my brother. Balfasar wielded two short sword vorpal blades. He was 15th level when he was killed. Why did Balafasar kill him, treasure of course a Belt of storm giant strength, a ring of three wishes and 22x 20,000gpv rubies and a figurine of wonderous power of a 8 legged horse that had a land speed of 80 miles an hour!
When I started to Dm, I had a evil cleric pc one Talon Neth search for his brothers remains. And raised him from the dead...Oh the sweet taste of revenge!
BTW-(Tobus Neth)inspired
by Lord Robilar from Rogues Gallery a NPC book from the glory days of TSR
Lathiira |
I commonly use the names of one or two of my characters or NPCs. Lathiira is an old drow bard that survived the Fall of Myth Drannor, a chronicler of ages that mourns the loss of the best of days. The other common name is Lady Darley or a variant of that name as well. I pick female names (or ones I think sound more appropriate for female characters, at any rate) because they come to mind more easily and roll off of the tongue better (or so I believe).
GeraintElberion |
Geraint is my name in the really real world. Elberion is a name i invented for my Elven Cleric of Sehanine; he lasted just a single session as a PC before the DM dropped out and I took over DMing the group. As such Elberion became a potential plot-device, npc ally and general DM tool - so I used that moniker for gaming websites as a tribute to the PC I never got to play.
Yorrik24 |
I made my name Yorrick because I have a Kobold Bard named yorrick.
When it looked like he was going to Die my DM said ...
Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio: a fellow
of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he hath
borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how
abhorred in my imagination it is!
to tease me...

Larry Lichman Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games |
My name represents an unending quest to change the "evil overlord" image of liches everywhere.
By choosing a non-threatening name like "Larry", it humanizes liches for the common folk. By adding the suffix "-man" to the term lich, it really brings home the fact that liches are people too, and are not to be feared, hunted, or have their plans thwarted.
In fact, it is my hope that whenever a lich asks for a favor (or sacrifice), no matter how unusual it is, people will provide the lich with whatever he needs to bring his plans to fruition.
Maybe people will finally be able to look at the lich in a different light and begin helping them complete their goal - complete subjugation of all life as we know it - but in a friendly, unobtrusive way....
What? Why are you looking at me like that? It's for your own good!! Just do as you are told, fleshbags!! Please.
Rakshaka |
Avatar: I had a lot of disturbing dreams when I ran the Age of Worms adventure path. Not really frightening or anything, just weird..."I'm crawling belly-first through a sewage tunnel like Bishop in Aliens that's flowing with Kyuss worms.. My head feels really hot..", or "Wow! What building is this I'm on top of? And why is this giant statue (My Kyuss Mini superimposed itself in my dreams) telling me I can fly over the city? Why does Bloomington, Indiana look like a really gothic and shadowy version of itself...like Alhaster?" Yeah, weird.
The name has just kind of stuck since I first posted on these boards, and it's also my Wizards and Hordelings name (I'm a huge DDM fan). I didn't want to take a name specifically after a creature, but consider myself polymorphable in my moods and appearance. The spelling difference is just being literal-dumb-minded...I 'rak' (rock) and I "shak" (Shock)! (or 'shack'...hehe I wish). Anyways, that's my stupidity in the form of a name. It's also a hat-nod to the now extinct Gypsy vampires of White Wolf, the Ravinos, and their Antedeluvian God, Ravanos Rakshasa, though I was always a Werewolf player at heart.

ArchLich |
I chose ArchLich because it instills fear in all living creatures.
Actually my favourite character was/is: Desmodious a LE Archmage turned Lich.
Desmodious is a bastardised version of the latin word for vampire bat (he had one as a familiar, who also got turned into a lich).
Arch Mage was cut down to Arch
Arch + Lich = ArchLich
I'll not make you listen to the long but thrilling look into the character's psyche that caused me to adore him so.

I chose ArchLich because it instills fear in all living creatures. <more details cut>
Ummm. Archlich. You haven't read much Forgotten Realms, have you?....
I daren't post any more on the topic. You evidently arrived at the concept by an entirely different reasoning process to Ed Greenwood.
Koldoon |
Koldoon has been my online moniker most places for over 15 years.
I chose it when the MUCK I frequented (FluxMUCK for anyone from that era) was about to crash permanently. One of the wizards from that MUCK decided to start a new one, and selected me as one of the wizards.
I decided that was as good an opportunity as any to change my online name at the time, and went with Koldoon, a transliteration of the Russian word for sorcerer. The muck still exists (HoloMUCK) and can be reached for interested folks at holo.bluecows.com 5757 - though like most text only environments it gets far less traffic than it once did.
I am a grognard, however, and prior to that used many other online names going back well into the eighties, when the in thing was local dial-up bulletin board systems.
das schwarze Auge |
Mr. Shiny is a scary name, worthy of literature. Like Captain Howdy.
Stay away from Captain Howdy...
Usually I use Fiacha, which is my SCA persona (Lord Fiacha Suileach) and my email name since university (it made it easier for everyone to track me down since I was Seneschal for my College), plus I worked for the campus computer center and everyone went by a pseudonym for their email handle. Suileach is Irish for "dark eye" and since I'm rather cynical (and bitter!), it seemed to fit. But, I felt like doing something different on these boards, so "das schwarze Auge" is an allusion to my other common pseudonym as well as being a German RPG for the gaming tie-in. As for avatar, what else would be more appropriate for a name like das schwarze Auge than a big eyeball?
Mothman |
I own a t-shirt with a large graphic of a moth on it. I was wearing this shirt when I first met a certain smokin’ hot young lady, who, it turned out, really hated moths – and started calling me Mothman.
This probably threw something of a wrench into my plans to bed her, but in the end my charm and good looks (yeah right – I don’t really know how it happened) won out, and a torrid and passionate affair with the nymph ensued.
The name stuck. I rather like it.
the Stick |
Almost 20 years ago, I was playing in a campaign with a very creative, story-telling DM who worked hard to really make the world come alive. My character concept was a gnomish illusionist-thief, intent on becoming to world's greatest thief. After robbing a nobleman of his walking stick, then brazenly returning it to him for teh princely reward of one gold piece, the legend of "the Stick" spread among the underground.
Top that off with I have the body type of a stick, plus am handy in using sticks as weapons (jo staves and bokken), and walk softly and carry a big stick, plus numerous ready-made crude phallis references, and the name stuck, in-character and out. I sometime joke that that old character was the prototype for the 3e arcane trickster...
