This is the username I use most places. It's actually only the second one I've used since I started going online back in the wee 90's (the first one was goateeco - because I have a goatee and co are my initials).
This one stems from the fact that it's pretty descriptive of me. I'm 6'6", 300+ lbs and rather gentle of nature - thus the gentle giant.

This is my name. My nick for the online world is sir_ollibolli. Sir for the noble heritage and ollibolli is nice fooling around with my name, that I found in a German science fiction novel (perhaps someone can spot it...*G*)

I chose mine because I didn't intend on posting very often.

I have other more common names for e-mail, LJ's, and Blogs.

Overall I'm a very nice person in real life. Soft spoken. I can say that with some confidence. Actually a little shy.

When I get behind a keyboard, there's an edge to what I write. I'm not really fond of it, and despite my best efforts, it surfaces still. I can also get pretty passionate about stuff, particularly in this medium, and argue like a fiend. Another trait I could do without.

Anyway, I never intended on getting invested in this community. I was just going to read posts about Pathfinder and acquire what I needed from that.

I ended up posting anyway.

As for Marvel's Watchers? I'm mostly a DC guy. :)

Mine came from the first Earthdawn character I played. He was a Troll skyraider named Thraxus Strombane of clan Battlerock.

For those not familiar with the Earthdawn rpg, Earthdawn is an earlier age to the Shadowrun universe. So in Thraxus' case, picture an 8 foot tall Viking with natual horns and a thick hide armed with a crystal axe and wearinf crystal chainmail sailing the sky in a drakkar (longship) laced with elemental air to keep it airborn.

Now that I think about it, that is probably where my intrest in the Vikings frist started.

Scarab Sages

This is the name I use most often now. I have used Temmerlane in the past, but rarely anymore. I chose it because I like the Mongols.

Ah, so you are actually more a Monitor than a Watcher.

Just thought it was a funny mental image.

Well the year was 1983 in a small hospital in rural New Brunswick. And my mother (who incidently had the last name Mcgillan in those day) had a second son and naturally after the fashion of the day wanted to name said son in a rhyming scheme with her first sons name which is Jason. So it ended that young Jeremy was named.

Dataphiles

This has been my nom de plume since I started writing, about 15 years ago. It's italian in origin, literally lightdark. Usually used in art to refer to the use of shadows & light to create depth in paintings. The notion of contrast immediately appealed to me, as does the fact that the depth is illusory, masking the flat & shallow.

I remember reading it once but I can not remember where.

Also I lurked on the boards for quite a while and during that time I went through several names and this one came out on top.

The avatar is fiting because my personality closely resembles a Golarion goblin but a little less evil.... just a little ;)

Cintra Bristol wrote:

I use my real name - I find it makes me rethink a few things before I post them.

Actually, my real name has a pretty funny origin. I was named after a friend of the family's ex-wife (yup, she was an ex-wife at the time), just because my mom liked the way the name sounded.

I've only once met another person named Cintra. I was in a Woolworths in my college town after summer break, and I said to a friend of mine, "Hey, look, they still have these same lollipops on sale."

A woman's voice right behind me said, "Cintra, get your hand out of those lollipops!"

I turned around, startled, to see that she was addressing a little girl, maybe three years old, with straight dark hair (like mine, and cut much as mine had been at a similar age). I asked if the little girl was really named Cintra, and she was, so I introduced myself to the little girl ("My name's Cintra, too"), but she just stared at me.

That's kind of funny. The same thing happened to me almost to the letter, except that my name is Sylvan. Also not a common name. Kid looked just like me too. I thought I was going to get hit with a paternity suit.

And related to an entirely different post. Vic Wertz and Lisa Stevens are now my idols. I thought I was a dedicated geek. Want to adopt a 35 year old Dutch/Puerto Rican kid?

It's my real name.

No, wait my real name is Damon Neknurd. No, thats not it either.

Naahh! I used to own a 1958 Chevy Nomad and ...uhhh... drinking is good?

I have many reasons for this avatar name, and they have nothing to do with Neon Genesis Evangelion or Darkstalkers. Sometimes I append "Darkmoon" to the end of my forum name(s), if Lilith is taken, as that's the name of my art website.

The avatar image is fairly recent - before that it was a soulknife drow, but Iggwilv is much more fitting.

Been using this name for years now and it isn't worn out at all.

WOW!!!

This has been very interesting....and there are a lot more folks on Paizo than what I see from day to day....

Some of us just lurk most of the time. :)

As for the screen name, growing up I always liked the cartoon movie "The Secret of Nimh" and thought the evil rat Jenner was one of the coolest villains. So he became the name of my first Shadowrun character back in high school. The 2057 part is the year of our current Shadowrun campaign.

Quite!

Just don't call me Bob...

"Twin Peaks" ruined the name of Bob for me..

There was a time when everyone else in our gaming group had a nickname. We had the Commando Rat. We had Samurai Gunman. Then there was just me. Well I wanted to have a good nickname to sign off my e-mails and such with, and bounced around several different nicknames. The one that eventually stuck though was Grimcleaver--taken from an artifact axe in Exalted, which I just laughed and laughed about because it's the coolest thing to call a magic axe ever. I always said I'd make a character who used a grimcleaver--just cause it's called a grimcleaver. Eventually that ended up being my nickname.

So when I came on Paizo it was a matter of finding a face to go with the name. I wanted something dour and dwarven looking--but also thoughtful. I looked through all of them, but kept coming back to this one. It seemed to really work nicely with the tone of the posts I'd been making. Now he's really become my alter ego.

Scarab Sages

An odd mixing of Red Dwarf and Star Wars -- that is just wrong which makes it right for me.

Mines 1) a favored NPC's name, that 2) is unlikely to be taken anywhere else.

Liberty's Edge

It all started back in high school...

After a night's binging on Mountain Dew and Firefly, my friend Alex (Dirk Gently on the boards) and I began brainstorming for a comic book I was planning on writing (I eventually did -- It was terrible. I'm probably going to re-write it at some point). The protagonist was a drunken unemployed loser that turned into an insane death-dealer by night. The whole thing was inspired by a combination of other works, including "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac" by Jhonen Vasquez, as well as the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Paizo's own Kyle Hunter.

Inspired by the several episodes of Firefly watched about an hour before, I said something to the effect of "It would be real shiny if we could think of something". Alex replied by saying something to the effect of "I'm going to start calling you Mr. Shiny."

I thought it would be a cool name for my comic book character, and it stuck. We added the 'Eldritch' part due to the Lovecraft influence.

After the comic didn't turn out, I used 'Mr. Shiny' as the name of my City of Heroes character, then a GURPS character, and eventually, it became my all-purpose net alias.

As for the avatar, I've only changed it once, unlike some of the other regulars (yeah, I'm looking at you, MaxSlasher and James Keegan). It was originally the Death's Head Tree from Dragon magazine, but after the Downer avatar came out, I was the first one to have it. Mine. Why, you ask? Because a.) Downer is my homeboy, and b.) the illustration looks an awful lot like a color-inverted picture of me.

Mr. Shiny is a scary name, worthy of literature. Like Captain Howdy.

Hmmm....I shall have to give it some consideration. Normally I would ask about 101 questions but you said you don't want to be the center of attention so I won't do that to you here. I shall give it some thought....perhaps I will offer a list of names. Keep an eye on the thread over the next few days....

A nod to a prior character whom underwent permanent ‘swirly’ (i.e. magic) effects that made him large. You can find the Swirly Table searching these forums if interested. I played the character maybe once after this in-game-event, but the phrase ‘I’ve got reach,’ meant so much more afterwards.

As an aside, ‘I’ve got reach’ must be said in the manner of Jesus Shuttlesworth (played by Ray Allen) pumping his palms in the air raising the roof saying “I’ve got hops, baby” from the movie “He Got Game”.

And if I'm not mistaken, I think this topic (handles/avatars) has been discussed, albeit years ago. As far as the avatar goes, I'm old school, so there weren't many avatars to choose from. What adventurer never feared the ravenous Ankheg?!

My name is Walter. I have some friends from Puerto Rico who Spanglicized my name to Waltero a few years back, so I use that handle from time to time.

@KnightErrantJR: I always assumed it was Junior. In some small way, I am disenchanted.

I never really wanted a handle hence I just use my real name when I sign up for a message board.

Just so that I can restore everyone's original expectations, I'm hoping that I'll have a son someday, and I'll give him the screen name of KnightErrantJRjr.

I chose Riley for my Paizo forum name because Riley is my ENWorld forum name.

I chose Riley as my ENWorld forum name so I could amuse my friends by posting in-character in my campaign's Story Hour thread.

Riley died a week after my first post.

Been using this name since early BBS and such . . . and no it's not my real name.

It's the name of a character of an oWoD game, William James Pall the Third. The character was LaSombra antitribu(at least I think that was the term for it, the non-Sabbat LaSombra) who was also the Prince of Salt Lake City, Utah. He died in a botched 'Call of the Lamprey' attack in which all seven dice came up a natural 1. The GM ruled that instead of the inky black tentacles draining blood from the target, blood was pulled from the Prince into the target.

The only other on-line alias I use has been that of Crym-Sin. It was the name of my Star Wars Galaxy character (Intrepid Server), Human Imperial Pikeman that ran around Dantooine dressed in red robes. The name has stuck through numerous MMO's . . from City of Hero (Redneck Werewolf), to WoW (Dwarven Priest), to My current only MMO Guild Wars (Where I have characters named Crym Sin, Crym Son, Crym Sun, Crym San, Crym Syn, Crym Sen, Crym Shin, and Crym Cin).

Some people warned me in a IRC chat room when I changed from Crymsin to William Pall how it wasn't safe for me to use my real name on the internet. I told them it's not and I only tell my real name to those I meet in person, (or those I pay money to for pathfinder subscribtions . . . )

So I agreed to play in an all-female group, and discovered I *loved* rpg sessions. They soon started calling me their new Dungeon Girl. As a monkier, it took. Soon I was gaming with other friends, of both genders.

This sounds so much like some sort of hot confession I had to read it very slowly. Okay - that surely says more about me than it does about anything else.

Oh yeah. My name. In my first attempt at the Iron Dungeon Master tournament, the players actually gave their table DMs names. This is a big risk, cause the second place guy got 'Pookie Schmu' or something.

My table was pretty much experienced gamers, and it had already been announced I'd been playing for over 20 years, so they 'saddled' me with Ancient Sensei.

I rewarded them by demanding six 21st-level characters in under an hour, with only one epic book between them. Ancient Sensei accepts no excuses.

As for the cult..

Is there any way we can create a "Dungeon Grrrl Cultist" tag for people on the messagebaords who want to show their loyalty to my growing cabal?

Sovereign Court Wayfinder, PaizoCon Founder

My name is Tim. I am a big Star Trek: Next Gen fan. Back when it was running every Sunday, I created an answering machine message using my computer to alter my voice to sound like a Borg. (Damn...typing it makes it seem weird). Since Jean Luc became Locutis of Borg....I became Timitius of Borg. And then I ended up using it for my Hotmail email address back in 1999.

I later decided it sounded more Roman, sort of like Brutus, or Maximus...so Timitius is less Borg, more Russell Crowe.

The avatar I chose because it actually looks kinda like me...without the horns and glowing green eyes. Except on Wednesdays.
