I just got my first issue of Pathfinder and it inspired a simple question: would anyone here fancy playing in a RotRL campaign here on the boards?
I’m looking for 4-5 first level characters.
The books inside the spoiler are the ones from which materiel will be allowed.
PHB
PHB II (except the Dragon Shaman and Duskblade)
Tome of Magic
Complete Warrior
Unearthed Arcana
Spell Compendium
Magic of Incarnum
Complete Scoundrel
Complete Mage
Complete Divine
Complete Arcane
Complete Adventurer
In addition I’m fine with most materiel from Dragon magazine, just run it by me first.
Stats will be generated by rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest one.
Each character will get a bonus feat chosen from those presented in the Rise of the Rune Lords Player's Guide
House Rules
Half-elves: Half-elves gain a bonus feat at first level.
Half-orcs: Half-orcs gain 4 bonus skill points at first level and an another 1 skill point at
each additional level.
Reasonable Encumbrance: Unless you are carrying an extremely heavy object we will not
be tracking encumbrance.
Multiclass XP Penalties: You don’t take an XP penalty for multiclassing.

Hello. I haven't had the opportunity to play pbp before and if you would allow me to join, this would be my first time. Please bear with me if I ask a lot of questions.
I work overseas (Philippines) and I would like to know your time zone and the times you plan to start the game, so I can synchronize with you. Hope this won't be much of an inconvenience to you.
Also, I would like to be clarified on the stats generation rules. The scores generated can be arranged as you like, yes?
Lastly, I can't seem to access the list of allowed books. Will you allow a sandshaper or ultimate magus into your campaign?
Thanks.

Welcome aboard.
I'm in U.S. Mountain time zone (a 15 hour difference, I believe). With PbP everyone doesn't have to be online at the same time so this shouldn't be a problem.
Stats can be arranged as you like.
Haven't heard of the Sandshaper before but Ultimate Magus is fine (been wanting to play one myself, it looks like a good PrC).
Here is the list of allowed books again
PHB
PHB II
Complete Adventurer
Complete Arcane
Complete Divine
Complete Mage
Complete Scoundrel
Complete Warrior
Tome of Magic
Spell Compendium
Unearthed Arcana
Additionally, I require at least one post per day, preferably more. If you're going to be absent for a while please alert me ahead of time.

Thanks for the reply. I think I can manage that. I'll start as a wizard and work up to the requirement for the PrC.
I'll post the stats later along with the background.

Arctaris, I'm a tentative yes... can you hold me a spot, and I'll confirm with you in the next couple of days whether I'll be able to commit?
Cheers!

I would very much love to be a part of this. However, I am running Pathfinder myself, but am able to separate player and character information. If you don't have a problem with that, then I would love to play.
I don't really mind what class I play, although I am itching to play a Half Orc Barbarian, or a Bard of some type.
Let me know.

I know it is your game, and I don't at all want to step on your toes, but can I suggest point buy might be a better way to go with Stats? With 4d6 drop the lowest, there is really nothing stopping anyone from simply rolling a few sets until they get the set they want. I think it would be fairer to just go with a point buy method.
But as I said, it is your game, and your decision, so I'll go with whatever you decide.

Hi
I'm interested in playing Rise of the Rune Lords PbP. I do have the adventure(s - I will buy them all) but I am willing to not read them until we played it.
I am in europe, I can post daily (normally), english is NOT my main language, but I do understand everything (99.9% of the time) - my choice of words may be a bit funny sometimes, though.
I could play a Char with a gruesome dialect of course :-)
greetings from hun-country

Don't worry about mangling the English language. It's my first (and only) language, and often even I am not sure exactly what I say / mean. Of course, combine that with our love of slang down under, and sometimes no ones really understands me :)

I would like to do this. I'm new to PbP, so I might lurch along a little until I can figure out the nifty forum features. I am in Pacific time zone and can post daily during the week/most evenings, and Saturdays. I'm willing to play about anything, but would probably favor a fighter or ranger type initially. Please let me know if you have room for me and I'll work up character preliminaries over the weekend. Thanks.

Okay, here's our roster so far. I'm willing to add in one additional player, due to the amount of interest, but no more. Six is a handful.
Muad-dib, probably playing a mage of some type.
Possibly TwiceBorn
Evil Genius, possibly playing a Binder
Mevers, possibly playing either a bard or a barbarian
FabesMinis, possibly playing a knight
gurps, possibly a mage or ToM character
In case of drop-outs, next on the list are
Torillan
Jeremiah LeGrue
Muad-dib: The Imbue Staff option is fine with me.
TwiceBorn: I'll hold that slot for you until I hear otherwise.
Evil Genius: A Binder is fine.
If that is everyone's preference we can use 32 point buy instead of rolling 4d6.
Once we get started playing I'll want everyone to use Invisible Castle and link the result with their rolls
When you create your character, please post the stats in the character's alias' profile.

Looking at the Runelords Players Guide - the bonus feats would appear to be additional ones that humans can pick as their bonus first level feat, not yet another bonus on top of that. That's the way I read it anyway.
Nah, James said, (in one of the MANY Pathfinder threads), that they were meant to be a bonus feat for ALL characters at level 1. At if you look a them power wise, they are a little underpowered for "normal" feats, but just nice as background bonus feats that flesh out your character a little.
I'd second the point buy method, to keep things fair. And if I were to play a knight, it would be a toss-up between either focusing on the fron-line combat role or social/party spokesman aspect of the class - is anyone else thinking of making either one of these types?
After thinking about it some more, and seeing as we will have 6 players, I am really looking forward to laying a Shoanti Bard. So I would look to take the "face" role of the party, so you can focus on the front line combat role. Of course, it never hurts to have a back up face to go with your combat presence.
Now, I just hope we don't end up with 3 mages :)
Now to get building, should have him done in the next day or so.
1 more question, can we use flaws? You said Unearthed Arcana, but they are often a special case.

Ah, ok thanks for clearing that up! I'll shall add another feat (rubs hands with glee)
And I can now see that in my eagerness I completely forgot to buy any equipment *oops*
Hmm.. yeah we need a rogue or beguiler if there're going to be any traps about.

Hmm.. yeah we need a rogue or beguiler if there're going to be any traps about.
If we do end up with 3 mages I'm not sure if a beguiler is the best option, especially with a Bard already in the party :)
But I suppose we still have to hear form the other guys, and see if we do actually end up with 3 mages, I sort of hope not, but it would be.... interesting :)
Arctrius: Any chance of being able to take the feat "Superior Unarmed Strike" from Tome of battle. All it does is increase the damage of my unarmed strike (to 2d6 at level 20). I am looking to play a Shoanti Bard who uses a war drum (with his bare hands), and isn't adverse to punching those that get too close. As such, anything that increases my unarmed damage is very much appreciated.
TwiceBorn |
Time permitting (still trying to determine that), I'm leaning towards making a scout (Shoanti or Varisian, perhaps even gnome), which would cover most of the party's ranger/rogue needs. But if worse comes to worse, I could make a cleric... (don't get me wrong, I like playing clerics, but the class just didn't spring into my mind as the one I'd die to play in a Rise of the Runelords campaign. Maybe I'll change my mind when I read through the Player's Guide to RotRL...
mevers |
A scout sounds like it will work fine. We should be right without a divine caster, at least as long as we keep up with the Wands of CLW.
Although, still hoping we don't end up with three mages. If one of them decides instead to play a divine caster, we should be set to rock, but a party more than half casters would be... interesting.
mevers |
If it is all fine with you guys, I'll take on the divine caster role, a cleric of Abadar.
I don't know any party on the face of the planet that has EVER complained about having a Cleric along for the ride. As long, of course, that you are happy playing a cleric? I find having players happy with their characters tends to be more important than having all the bases covered.
I am very much looking forward to this. Now to finish (start?) my Bard.
TwiceBorn |
Does anyone have any experience with the ToMagic stuff? I MIGHT be interested in an "other" wiz, if they are playable :)
thnx
IMO, the Tome of Magic is one of the best (peraps the best?) book WotC has released. I love the binder class... they can offer a really intense role playing experience (I'm playing one in another PbP campaign right now... one of the funnest characters I've ever played).
Muad-dib |

No problem with playing a cleric here. It is tied with wizard as my favorite class.
I am also looking forward to this.

Here is Joktaan, Shoanti Bard ready to go. He will eventually be headed towards Lyric Thaumaturge (Complete Mage p67).
I have powergamed him a little, but since he is a Bard, and pursuing a less than ideal combat path (unarmed combat), I felt it was needed, and it should help him not to fall to far behind.
Arctaris, are we using the retraining rules from PHB2? Eventually I would like to retrain the extra music feat, I won't need it once I get to level 7 or so.
I should have his background done in the next couple of days (hopefully at least by the end of the week).
Edit: How much Gold are we starting with? I assumed 125 gp.

TwiceBorn: I'm planning on starting the game as soon as I have character sheets from everyone. If thats before you're able to get a character done I'm fine with bringing you in a little later.
We are starting with max starting gold for your class.
Muad-dib, FabesMinis, and Mevers, I went over your character sheets and everything looks good.
We will be using the retraining rules from PHB II.
gurps, a young female shadowcaster would be fine with me.
TerraNova, all slots are filled but I will put you in the list for back-ups in case someone drops out.
