First and foremost was the cost. Justifying spending $75 a year on two magazines was hard enough, now I'm being asked to justify $132 (if my math is correct, before shipping) and that's pretty hard to stomach

BUt I look at it like this:

$132 on likely over a years worth of entertainment. Thats a pretty good deal. Especially considering that a year of entertainment with hookers and cocaine would cost me waaaaaaaaaay more.

So, thats my motto; Pathfinder. Its cheaper than hookers and blow.

But I have no need of hookers or blow. Which of course, is part of problem of having to justify my spending in the first place.

However, my son and I did just finish the Dungeon & Dragons basic game (he'll be 5 on Thursday, I figured it was an easy way to introduce him to the game). So maybe I can use the "it's for father-son bonding time" excuse.

As far as open soliciting, I'm confident Paizo is working at opening the door to Pathfinder soon. I wouldn't be surprised if we resurrected this thread in three years and a whole new slew of names were topping Pathfinder issues by then (HORROR!!!) ;-)

Ah! This quote (combined with the recent thread on time travel) made me realize something: When this thread is resurrected three years from now, I want to be on record for having predicted that Pathfinder will be a huge success.

Now, when we look back in three years' time I will look like a visionary...

I think the humor of the previous poster escapes you at the moment. But his point that $132 for a year's worth of entertainment is actually quite low. Add up all your entertainment expenses over the last 12 months, then add up the actual amount of time that what ever you spent that money on actually entertained you--now compare that.

No, actually the humor was quite evident. Obviously the humor that was inherent in what I was alluding to wasn't that obvious.

Hijack here.

Which basic; Red Box type basic or the new d20 basic?

I've got a 6 year old I'm trying to get into the hobby. HOw did the basic go over with your son?

Is it the one where you're standing in these sort-of Sun God robes surrounded by a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?

$132 is, consequently, what my combined cable/bradband/phone package costs. Personally, I think a year's worth of Paizo subscriptions will be more entertaining than from a month's worth of cable/internet/phone. My wife may disagree.

We were eating at the all you can eat buffet, and now we're buying steak dinners (insert lovely vegetarian dish if more apropriate for you).

But it's a steak dinner on a gold plate with waitresses wearing Slave Leah costumes. Sure they're attractive, but they don't actually make the steak taste any better and only drive up the cost of the dinner.

I buy gaming mods for the content. Anything that can't make it to the gaming table, like better bond paper or high-quality maps I can't show my players, doesn't justify the extra cost in producing them. To me.

Chances are when I finally get a chance to run Pathfinder (and oh how I want to run Pathfinder) I'm going to be making my own battlemats in Photoshop and breaking the spine of the book so it lays flat behind the screen. Where's your extra production value now?

I did just look back and found the price point for the .pdfs to be a more reasonable $14...I could probably justify that and hope nobody catches me using the office color printer to print the pages.

Speaking of which, is there any word on .pdfs for the other GameMastery line? Either the modules like Bloodsworn Vale or campaign books like the Classic Monster revisited?

DangerDwarf: I answered your question in the Snarky Threadjacker's Thread. here to be exact

I agree that Pathfinder will be a nice, delicious steak full of yummy goodness. However, unlike the steaks I grill on my grill, they're not free. But I do so love a good steak....

The modules will be available on PDF, IIRC.
