So, am I a Charter subscriber or not? (confused)

If you're interested in a printed edition of the Player's Guide, there are several ways to get your hands on them. Of course, you can preorder a copy right here on paizo.com—we'll start shipping them out alongside Pathfinder 1 next week. In a few weeks, you'll be able to pick up a copy—or a 5-pack—at your favorite local game store. Or, you can get a FREE print copy by becoming a charter subscriber to Pathfinder. Just sign up for an ongoing month-to-month subscription to Pathfinder before August 13, and we'll include a free copy of the Player's Guide along with your first volume. (Plus, you'll get a nifty "Pathfinder Charter Subscriber" tag next to your name on our messageboards.)

But I'm a "charter subscriber" already, am I not? Shall I receive a printed Player's Guide, or not? Did this e-mail get sent to all subscribers, including charter-ers?

Same question here...

Liberty's Edge

I'm thinking the email was sent to all site members with an email shown on their account. I got it also and I'm a charter member. If there's any doubt as to that, just look at the tag by your name on your message-board posts.

It got sent to everybody (or everybody with an account rather),

We sent it to everyone who has a Pathfinder subscription (converted or charter).

I converted my Dragon/Dungeon subscription months ago and I am just listed as a subscriber... where is my fancy "Charter"?

Hi there, I'm delurking as a sort of test. I haven't received an email, but I thought that I had subscribed. At least, Pathfinder shows up on my list of subscriptions.

My email appears valid in my account info.

Ok, now it is there... I had converted so early that there was no option to select ongoing subscription... I did so and for $17.99 I seem to now be recognized as a charter subscriber... (when I posted the first question it initialy showed me simply as a subscriber) I am a bit confused what I get for the 17.99 but I suspect that will work itself out over time.

Your spam filters might have culled the email. Or, if you've unchecked the "Paizo may send me information about Paizo products, services or events by email" box on your Privacy Settings page we didn't send you the email.

Got it... This is what is goign on...

When customers subscribe at paizo.com, they get a month-to-month subscription, which is fixed at a 30% discount off of each volume’s cover price, plus shipping. Month-to-month subscribers save money without having to spend a lot of cash at once—plus they never have to worry about their subscription expiring!

Grr, that's what it was, I had all of the notifications turned OFF. I wonder why I did that, bleh. Oh well, turned some of them back ON.

Thanks Gary!

Another question occurs to me. Does being a charter subscriber allow one to access to pdf versions of various print products? (i.e., Pathfinder products).

I am Charter Subscriber (see above).
I switched off the buttons in my account settings which enable posting of ads.
I read in another thread that it was the above mentioned mail which enabled me to download the Player's Guide?!?

As I understand things, the pdf version of the Player's Guide is part of my Pathfinder Subscription. So why am I informed by ad mail and not by customer mail? (or rather: not informed at all due to switching off ad mails in my account settings) And why don't I find a download link in my download section?

Slightly confused,
Günther

The hard copy of the Player's Guide is part of your "Charter" subscription. The pdf is free to all, just click here.

The email probably could have been classified as "customer mail" instead of "ad mail". I think we put it as "ad mail" because in addition to letting you know about the PDF, it was also reminding people to purchase an ongoing subscription.

You're not finding the link in your downloads page because the link is on the product page.

Sovereign Court

Ok. By now I found a different thread in which a friendly reader posted the link.

Nevertheless I don't think this to be very customerfriendly. :((
I never expected to have to look for an ad mail in order to be notified about the Player's Guide and where to find it...

Greetings,
Günther

I don't expect to have to search the message boards in order to find the Player's Guide part of my subscription.

But... It's not part of your subscription... and they would have sent you an email if you let them... And it's a free thing they are giving everyone... and they announced it on their blog... and free with your subscription they will give you a hardcopy of it...

I don't see anything not customer friendly about that.

Unfortunately I don't have always time to check the message boards or the blogs. And yes, you are right, that it is a free gift by yours, Paizo.

But it is true as well that I subscribed to an adventure path both digitally and printed. I get the Player's Guide for free (printed), and I am not informed if it is available digitally, too (same as the PF issues)?

Again: Technically you are right, but I'd be glad if non ad subscribers would be notified of this, too.

A proposal (if anyone of the staff reads this):
Send two seperate mails: one to PF subscribers and one to "ad subscribers". Both are informed, both are happy.

Greetings,
Günther

P.S.
I think it is possible to be a Paizo fan and nevertheless utter criticism if it is meant in a constructive way. My words might sound harsh to american ears, but my intentions are good. ;-)

I am a customer who doesn't like ad mails.
Therefore I don't get to know where to find the digital Player's Guide?
I receive all PF issues digitally, too, but information about the most basic setting material is only given out as an ad?

What the good Scribe is saying, I believe, is that the pdf of the Player's Guide is not part of your subscription, it is free for everyone. The hard copy is part of your subscription.

The email in question was an advertisement for Pathfinder that included information for all Paizo customers about the free Player's Guide pdf download.

Sovereign Court Contributor

Correct... because the free pdf is not part of the subscription, sending it to you would have been advertising. The ad e-mail offerred subscriptions and a bunch of other things. It clearly was contrary to your 'no ads' request.

I will admit though, that I was also a little baffled that you searched the messageboards, but didn't look in the store blog.

As for criticizing (constructively) things that you are a fan of, I agree wholeheartedly. In this case I simply respectfully disagree with your criticisms in this case.

No, you didn't. I'm a converted subscriber to Pathfinder, and I have not received my hardcopy of "Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide". What should I do?

Edit: ok, now I'm confused. When I got the invitation to convert to Pathfinder, I could have sworn that one of the enticements was a hardcopy of the Player's Guide. Now I see that the hardcopy is only for charter subscribers, not converted subscribers. Well, why isn't a converted subscriber also charter subscriber? I converted over before August 13th, so how is that different from someone who just subscribed as normal?

A charter subscriber was somebody who signed up for the ongoing Pathfinder subscription in addition to their converted copies. Basically, it was something we did for the folks who believed in us before they even saw the first issue. If you didn't sign up for the ongoing subscription before the 23rd, you didn't get the Player's Guide or the Charter Subscriber tag.

Is this a typo? I signed up on the 23rd but still had to pay for the PG and don't have Charter in my "title". I assumed without checking that my Dragon and Dungeon subscriptions would carry over and didn't realize they both ended 2 issues early, but that's my fault. Once I realized it, I subscribed immediately. Not a big deal, but if I'm "entitled" to those things (the PG and Charter next to my name) then I'd like them. Or, in the case of the PG, store credit since I already bought it.

On the other hand, if this is a typo just ignore my rambling. :)

You know, I shouldn't have put a date because I really have no idea what date was the cut-off. That was a date that stuck in my brain, but I am actually on vacation and in the middle of the wilds of California right now, so I didn't have anybody to ask. If you were supposed to get the PG, you would have. Sorry about the confusion.

Actually, I think the cut-off was the 13th instead of the 23rd, so you were close. :) It kind of annoys me, because I missed by so close a margin. But again, that's my fault for assuming I'd automatically convert over and not checking my previous subscriptions to make sure I had enough to cover it. :) And enjoy your vacation! :)

How come I'm not listed as a charter subscriber, when I have been since the conversion of Dungeon Subscriptions was first announced?

In order to become a Charter Subscriber and get the free printed version of the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide, you needed to have created an Ongoing Pathfinder subscription, in addition to transitioning your remaining issues, before the first volume shipped.

Thanks,
cos

I did sign up before the 23rd:

I can tell you one thing - that was not clear to me! I read all the FAQs and message boards to understand what was going on, and I was pretty sure I did everything right. I guess I was wrong.

So what was the process for creating an ongoing subscription?

I apologize for the lack of adequate explanation. To create an Ongoing Pathfinder subscription, just put a Pathfinder Subscription into your shopping cart and go through the checkout process as normal. Your Ongoing subscription will automatically synchronize with your existing Pathfinder transitioned volumes and automatically start when those volumes are used up.

Thanks,
cos

Ok, I understand what happened. I didn't actually create an ongoing subscription when I converted my prior subscriptions. I don't remember if I knew about the free Player's Guide or not. Oh well.

Intriguing.

Agreed-not very well explained at all...at least the tag and the print player's guide aren't THAT big a deal...

Gosh, I wonder how we all ever figured it out...

I personally attempted to become a charter subscriber to begin with. Unfortunately, my attached credit card had expired and I was unaware of that fact. My subscription was stuck in limbo for over a month. Because of this I didn't find out that I hadn't actually subscribed until I ordered some other products and it was still in my check-out. It actually hurts my feelings that I can't be a charter member because of a minor technical error. :(
