On a slightly more serious note, I haven't used the dice bag feature before. Does the dice bag give you the ability to link rolls to Character Names and allow the DM to see a history of the rolls under that name? That's one feature I like about Invisible Castle. Once a player has picked a name all his rolls are linked to that name so he can't roll for something a few times and pick the best one.

Handy! No, as far as I know there's no feature like that for the Dice Bag, it's more a trust thing. Though by the abysmal rolls a few of my players seem to consistantly get (not singling you out here Twiceborn), I pretty much trust them.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Okay, thanks for the tip, Olof.
Just to fix Olof's link, everyone should go here and check out the dice roller at Invisible Castle.
If everybody's good with it, let's use this site for dice rolling.

Rend |

I was just glancing at everyone's character sheet to read bios etc and noticed that we all rolled pretty well for stats except for TwiceBorn. For the sake of balance, Sean, you might want to let him reroll those. Or at least give him honesty points :)
Up to you, just thought I'd make the suggestion

TwiceBorn |

Poor Twiceborn...
Well... truth be told, I rolled exceptionally high stats for my binder (with real dice)... so well that I fear the DM may not believe me. So atypical of me... Just my luck...
By the way, I haven't actually posted the stats for my as-yet nameless binder, so I'm not sure how it was determined that I rolled poorly this time around (if you guys looked at my profile stats, those are actually supposed to reflect me in real life, not my character stats, lol)...

I don't mind using the site, although I must confess that given how infrequently I play pen and paper RPGs, I really prefer to roll physical dice every chance I get... and as Mothman indicated, the frequency with which I roll poorly confirms that I don't cheat or roll several times and pick the best result.
Are you expecting us to reroll our characters with the Invisible Castle dice roller, or do you just want us to use that system once we start the game?

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Are you expecting us to reroll our characters with the Invisible Castle dice roller, or do you just want us to use that system once we start the game?
Oh no! Nobody needs to reroll stats, or anything like that. I was just thinking this would be more convenient once we actually started the game.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted much the last day or two.
A couple of quick things, I'm not married to the Invisible Castle die rolling, I was willing to work on the honor system, I just thought it would be more convenient, and give us all confidence there's no funny business going on anywhere.
So, I'll put it out to a vote. Or at least a straw poll. How do you all feel about it?
And, while I've posted a very quick synopsis of the starting situation, is there anything in particular people want to know about before we begin? I don't want to hit you with data you don't necessarily need right away, so you tell me the areas you want shaded in first.

![]() |

I'm not playing, so I don't get a vote on the dice rolling ... but ... A number of people post from work, and at some work places, sites like Invisible Castle are blocked (whereas Paizo.com is not), so those people may need to rely on real dice or randomised Excel spreadsheets or whatever.

Shamus Car'das |

I'd prefer to use my dice (there's nothing like rolling the dice). If someone cheats, well, thats their choice. I think it makes the game less fun for them but whatever. As it was pointed out, its not a competetion. I'll roll my dice, give you my real rolls and trust good luck to carry me through. I'm also using my lucky dice so I should be okay (yes, I'm one of those gamers).

Thanks for fixing the link. I must have been half asleep when I posted it the first time around. I should have actually checked that it was linking properly.
And I don't expect you to use it. It was just something that I found useful. If everyone is honest and upfront there is nothing to worry about.
On the other hand, if there is no checks in place the temptation to cheat can sometimes become too much for some people (I'm not saying that it applies to anyone here, just making an overall generalisation).

Rend |

My vote would be to use Invisible Castle. I am completely fine with the honour system if that's what's decided (as long as we keep the letter "u" :)
My experience has been that people are very honest when it comes to attack rolls, spot checks, skills, etc, but that it's very difficult to keep a roll that involves something really bad happening to your character when there's no check. imo those things are part of the game and a healthy dose of fear is exactly that: healthy. But the fact is everyone's here to have fun, and if rolling polyhedrons gives that, I don't want to stand in the way...

Re: campaign info, there are a few details I'd like to know before fleshing out my background:
1. What presence does the Church of Kord have in Diamond Lake?
2. What religions have significant presence in Diamond Lake and which are the most prominent?
3. How are half-orcs received by general society in Diamond Lake? In the world?
4. How big of a city is Diamond Lake compared to others nearby? I'm more interested in a general comment like whether it's a metropolis or small town than an actual population #...
Thanks!

GentleGiant |

I'm almost done with my character, had a bit of delay this weekend when an unexpected (but welcome) visitor came around.
I'll give a quick summary:
Kharid Thunderrune
Male Dwarven Diviner, very interested in archaeology, slightly "bookish" type and then not (not quite an Indiana Jones type, but something in that direction).
I plan on taking the Enhanced Awareness Diviner variant from Unearthed Arcana, if that's okay.
a) Identify only takes 10 minutes to cast (instead of 1 hour).
b) Arcane Eye moves at 20’ per round when studying its surroundings (instead of 10’).
c) Divination spells have +1 DC (stacks with Feat: Spell Focus).
d) Sense Motive becomes a class skill
Still need the last couple of tweaks and such, but I'll hopefully be able to finish him later today.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Rend, I will answer those questions and any others tonight after work.
GentleGiant, that character concept is fine.

Harlon Happytoes |

*Blows a long whistle* Nice profile there. Just 2 questions. Do you not have any essential game stats since none are listed (none I can see at least)? Also, what the hell does EP under wealth/money mean?
Thanks, Dalzig. Essential game stats should all appear if you click on the "show" button beneath the "Essential Game Stats" heading. That button will reveal hit points, AC, move, saving throws, BAB, combat/weapons, etc. I tested it and it works for me... please let me know if it isn't working for you.
Abilities should be visible in the left hand column.
Cheers!

Dalzig Berenbiddle wrote:Also, what the hell does EP under wealth/money mean?Yeah Twiceborn, we're not in 2E anymore! ;-)
Ah yes, I forgot to address the "EP" question. Electrum pieces... a coin worth half a GP under 1st/2nd ed AD&D. I still include those coins in my pen and paper games, and just listed them in my profile out of habit... yes, some old habits die hard... ;-)

St. Cuthbert is the only faith with a full blown church in Diamond Lake. The presence of the Church of Kord probably consists of YOU, and maybe a small handful of others that you minister to.
More answers (and maybe even the first play posts!) later tonight. Got to run out the door again!

For some reason I click on "Show" and it just keeps saying "Show." But as long as it works for you and Sean I guess there's no problem.

I can't open the first spoiler section either, but all the info shows up if you open the page source.
Could it be a fault with the spoiler tags? As in, have you finished all the spoiler areas (it doesn't seem so from the source code, I can only find spoiler code, not any /spoiler code)Edit: Just read Harlon's background story... übercool! :-D

Strange. I can open the first section without any problems, and yes, the spoiler /spoiler code is in place (the /spoiler is at the very end of the ranged combat section)... so I don't know what's going on...
Thanks for the compliments on the background, Gentle G...

I added a few spaces between the last line of text in the section and the /spoiler... maybe it was stuck too close to another character before (the /spoiler for that section used to be flush against a period)? Who knows... I'm happy it's working now...

GentleGiant |

I"m sure I've read this in the PHB or DMG somewhere, but what's the weight of coins? I'm used to not really keeping track of it. It's nice to be able to carry 100,000 gold and not be encumbered. :)
50 coins = 1 pound (should be in the PHB somewhere)

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Hey gang!
Sorry, work suddenly exploded into 16-hour days, and will be thus through Saturday. I'll still try to get us started later today.
My most sincere apologies.
As to Rend's remaining two questions:
3. -- The Freehold Nations, and Jhesail in particular, are a polyglot society, and thus half-orcs are not particularly oppressed or looked down upon. They are usually considered valuable members of the community (depending on the half-orc in question, of course).
4. -- Diamond Lake is a Small Town (pop. around 1,000), and as such is one of the largest of the communities surrounding Jhesail. Jhesail, three days ride away, is a bustling metropolis. All of the other communities around Diamond Lake are Village or smaller.
Again, most sincere apologies for being scarce. I'm itching to start too.
I'll still open the actual play thread this afternoon or evening, as I can grab a moment to do so, and we can get started.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Okay guys, I have to apologize one more time.
These sixteen hour days are really more like eighteen, not including drive time. I've been doing little except working, and passing out exhausted into bed.
I may have said before, but I work freelance, and I'm working two gigs right now. The second gig came along unexpectedly, and offered way too much money for me to turn down.
The second gig ends after tomorrow.
As of Sunday, I will be back to having enough free time to actually get this started.
I'm really quite sorry. I wanted to start a couple of days ago, and I know you all did too.

No biggie (at least on my part - still can't decide what feats to take!).
You have to take the opportunities life throws at you! :-)
Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Hi guys!
Okay, I'm working on composing a first play post, to get us started, and some specific tidbits for individual characters to get them going.
Rend, where's your backstory? Is it in thread?
More questions from me as they pop up, and the play thread will open tonight, for sure.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

Dalzig --
I think you should be a local. Well, sort of a local. There is no temple to Wee Jas per se in Diamond Lake, but there's easily one nearby (I'll think up a town name for you today). You're in Diamond Lake, maybe to see if there would be any interest in a temple to Wee Jas in the town. Hence the boredom -- your extended posting in Diamond Lake has made it clear there is little interst in Wee Jas here.
But here is where they posted you after graduating from seminary, and here is where they seem to have forgotten you.

Sean, Minister of KtSP |

And I'm very curious to know more about Kharid the dwarven diviner. I hope Gentle Giant can post more soon.

Kharid Thunderrune |

And I'm very curious to know more about Kharid the dwarven diviner. I hope Gentle Giant can post more soon.
I've pilfered TwiceBorn's way of arranging my character and filled out most of it. Still a couple of things to put in there, depending on a yay or nay from Sean.
You mentioned earlier that none of us were from Jhesail (the capital), so I'd like to know where I could be from then? This, of course, depends on you approving of Kharid taking these two feats:
Collegiate Wizard (Complete Arcane p. 181)
Precocious Apprentice (Complete Arcane p. 181)
If you won't allow these two feats, then I don't need to be from a major city (where one would suspect that a wizard's college could be found). ;)
But everybody is free to take a gander at my character so far and there's even a link to another page with a picture and a couple of different character sheets (and stat blocks).
Also, I have purchased 2 scrolls with the intention of having scribed them into my spellbook before the adventure starts, I just haven't rolled to see whether I succeeded.
