For Dreamweaver,
I really like the knight class so I really put some though into this. I hope you like what I came up with, but if you had other thoughts, let me know.
First off:
500 XP
"Endurance" Feat
"Steadfast Determination" Feat (PH 2)
"Heroic Inspiration" Feat (now I am not even sure if this feat made it into a book, but I loved it on the IceWind Dale II video game. I tweaked it a little bit, and I thought it would go really cool with a Knight.) When your character is dropped to 50% or less of hit points, the character adds his/her BAB (up to +10) to all attack rolls and damage rolls while in melee combat.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers

Am thinking I would be from Aldan's Wall the son of a modestly wealthy merchant who wife makes low level potions for sale; have a background in magic, but disliked all the study and books were to cumbersome for my lively lifestyle; the mage life seemed to booring and the merchant life made me feel much like a sheep waiting for the wolves to attack; Doing some teenage thrill seeking; I became a member of the thieves guild; if you have one that is; got training with them to steal magic items and deal with casters if caught in the act. If you dont have a guild; then got recruited by an old man; who had a lot of contacts and who was a spelltheif; not as nimble as he used to be; he started going into the fence business; saw some qualities in me; started "procuring" goods for him; he started teaching me the trade; I like the old guy; so started hanging out with him more than my own family; perhaps they want to do an intervention and save me from my erstwhile ways; either with the guild or the old man; and I just decided to leave and hired on to the caravan as a security specialist.
anyway; I see peeps have made up characters;...
There are probably no thieves guilds, though, if you come up with something really cool to match the setting, I will give you creative license. Also keep in mind, my plan is to hopefully run a heroic campaign. I am hoping for somewhat good aligned characters. Maybe your character saw the light and wants to change his ways. Or, he realizes that he can now use his skills he learned for making nice money legally working for that merchant you hired on with.
I will repost the character gen rules shortly.
Utak
Reposted Character Generation Info.
- For now, at least, any race, any class (the setting is new and it is lacking an extensive history, this is on purpose to allow variety)
- 32 point-buy
- Max. starting gold
- 1st level, you get max. hp per RAW
- Even levels after 1st, you get max. hp
- Odd levels after 1st, you can take the average hp or roll hp
- *Important Rule* No evil characters. I am hoping for a heroic campaign, but I can deal with neutrality, if that is your preference.
- Gather Information, Search, Spot are class skills for all. To balance this out, if the class you choose has one of these skills as a class skill, add 2 addt. skill points per class / per level.
For example: (The rogue has all three skills as class skills, therefore; a rogue would get an addt. 6 skill points per level).
- Depending on how much detailed character background the DM is provided, the character may get a bonus feat of the DM's choosing.
- Possible XP for character background.
- With a PbP, roleplaying is important, and XP will be rewarded for good roleplaying, posting consistency, & posting content.
On Action Points: At 1st level you get 5 Action Points
From the Eberron Campaign setting. You can use an action point to add 1d6 to any d20 roll. You get so many action points per level, and they are to be used within that level on a use or lose basis. You can roll a d20 first and then decide to use an action point or not. The only time I require the decision to use an action point before you roll the d20 is if the DC is already provided.
I may have added info in a post that was not updated in my file. May want to double check the thread.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers

Hey Valegrim,
I was thinking a little on the spellthief. Here is an option if you like it. Finding inscriptions that mention goblinoids and other evils that use similar magics found in the Rutanian inscriptions, the church decided to do research and form an army that could combat this potential threat. Hence, the spellthief was born. Just a thought if you like it. If you would go this route, please take creative freedom in developing names, of course if you would like names, then I will provide some. Again, just a suggestion to build upon or ignore completely.
Looking forward to viewing a finished character.

Aradove, my sincere in humblest apologies. You are right, and I hang my head in shame:) I forgot you were an elf. I was trying to do to much on a tired mind. After work, I will review the rest of your character, and in the mean time, I will give myself 50 lashes.
Sorry again for my counting ineptitude.

Small question for DM and another spoiler for the collection.
For The Lady Janas:
On to your question about combat. I will try to run combat as instructed in the Players' Handbook. That said, since this is not a visual game, I will be asking players to state intent (ie: my character would never allow an AoO), and I will DM accordingly.
Thanks again.
Valegrim
yep; this is cool; can do this; hehe the church want to reach out and give a little guidance to us morally flexible guys eh; hehe; I would play a good guy; just am flexable; maybe did some things when I was younger that I was not comfortable with; saw the light so to speak.

will try to get you a full character sheet and background by tomorrow as I have the rest of the week off after today; been working a lot of days due to a big audit at work; sorry about the delay.
Sounds fine. I remember those audit days. Yuck! After I receive your character, we will start shortly after.
Still hoping to hear from Amergin if there is an interest in playing.

For Aradove:
500 XP
Skill Focus: Handle Animal
Skill Focus: Knowledge (Nature)
"Natural Bond" Feat (from Complete Adventurer)
If you were hoping for something else, just let me know. These are not set in stone unitl entered on your character sheet.
Sorry again for my error

Hey Everyone,
Things seem to be coming along nicely. We have 5 fully functional characters with 1 on the way from Valegrim. I have not heard from Amergin, but I plan to go ahead with the game since we will have 6 players. If Amergin does decide to chime in, we will work the character in.
My plan is to post some info Wednesday night. Unless someone corrects me, I will assume that everyone is riding in on the same caravan. If this is true, I will make one post describing what you see as you enter the North Gate of Erian's Glen. The caravan will be arriving in the early afternoon. This will give your characters the afternoon and into the evening to get settled-in, explore, investigate, interact, etc. I will ask you to establish your intent for the day and where you plan on staying that night. If you need more information, just ask.
Also, make these rolls: Initiative, listen, spot, gather information (if applicable). Also, along with intent, post any other rolls that would correspond with your activities. If you are doing something specific, post a separate roll.
That said, I want to mention that I try to focus on story and characters. With that in mind, I forget rules really quickly. Feel free to remind me of my errors, my wife always does:) I will be the first to admit that I am no master of the rules, so please correct me.
I hope this turns into a great game. If at any time, you are feeling left out or unsatisfied with the game, please bring it to my attention. My intention is to involve everyone as much as possible. That said, in this type of game, it also helps to involve yourself. If your character decides that he/she wants to do x, state so. and I will add the scene. And always add your suggestions, ideas, and criticisms. This is the only way I can aid in everybody's enjoyment.
Lastly, I want to thank all of you for spending the time and effort in making your characters and interacting with the setting. I truly appreciate your work and interest.
Cheers,
Utak

I cannot wait to get started and that is down to you - Utak
Upon entering the North Gate, Lady Janas will go looking for a suitable Inn for the night. Perceptive PC's will realise she doesn't have the funds for an expensive Inn.
She will take lodgings in Erian's Rest and then go out to get her bearings in the town. Also she will be gathering information on any mages in the Glen and its vicinity. To do this she looks up the Worship Halls, Dashes & Dust and the Market Square.
At nightfall, the Lady returns to the Inn for a small meal, convivial company and rest.

So, Utak, are you assuming that all of the characters would have been acquainted while on the caravan journey, or...? I can see myself being familiar with Memnon, but I'm not sure about the others... what do the rest of you think? This may affect the tone of early roleplaying in the player thread...
Thanks for your feedback, everyone... Game on!

In the new players thread, I made the attempt to mention the characters involved (expect for Valegrim's pc, because I do not have his yet) It is possible, and the players' choice, if you all have met up during the journey. When Shepherd brought out his holy symbol, that could have gotten the attention of Memnon and Erian, both following the same deity. Also, Aradove worked with Erian in calming the horses. Now Lady Janas mentioned in a post awhile ago that she could have met up with Erian during the journey. I also made mention of inquiries. She could have been talking to one or a few of the pcs. Let me know what you all think
Lady Janas
Lady Janas is a slim, attractive high elf. Not a stunner but definitely someone who can get noticed when she wants to be. Her thick, black hair is glossy with combing; it bounces freely as she moves. And she moves well - naturally graceful and sure-footed.
Lower down the Lady's dark blue robes flatter her figure , the fashionable cut causing her to show a length of fine thigh as her sits. However Erian probably will notice that she is the first to feel the cold. The first to wrap up warm and move nearer a camp fire. Also he may wonder where the Lady will find the strength to use the swords and shortbow among her belongings.
Whenever Erian regales her with his passion for nature, she will politely listen and show an interest. Her only comment is nature and the world outside are all part of life's rich tapestry.
Occasionally Lady Janas accompanies young Erian on his forays into the wilderness. It will soon become clear that she enjoys the experience but has little woodcraft. More of an urban creature.
The Lady is happy to discuss the childhood, training and missions that Erian remembers, her own stories are about her studies and experiences with magic. Her love of magic is self-evident in the glow of her intelligent eyes and the restlessly flickering fingers.
When Erian's Glen nears, Lady Janas asks the explorer what he hopes to achieve in the town, after all perhaps as a new friend she can help him...
This previous email covers the impression that Lady Janas gives all the party. It is a large caravan (and a busy one!) so I would not expect to get to know many other people - possibly useful people like a healer and a knight though.
Perhaps everyone could provide a thumbnail sketch of their PC such as above?Cheers

Gather Info I don't think applies to me but could be wrong
When Aradove enters town she will find shelter for the night in Druid's Circle & GoldLeaf Forest.
I sure could use a map of the town to fill in more detail if you could send it my way that would be great

You would use this skill, possibly spending hours/days doing so, to get specific info that you are looking for. From your background, they may not be a check needed now. As the game progresses, you may want to make one, and we can do that then.
Cheers.

Major Locations in Erian's Glen.
Three Worship Halls - (See map for locations) The Country of Rutania, though the citizens may not realize it, is in the beginning stages of a major separation between the classes (ie: upper, middle, lower). The Worship Hall at the corner of Hamia's Passage and Freya's Lane is used mainly by travelers staying at Erian's Rest, the druids, and the lumberjacks residing in the community dorms on the east side of Erian's Glen. The Worship Hall on Goldleaf Blvd. attracts the more affluent that live in the mansions and patrons of the Oakleaf Inn. The Worship Hall located by Market Square caters to the middle class residents, minors living in the west side community dorms, and patrons from the various smaller inns and taverns around Market Square and throughout the residential section of Erian's Glen.
Correction, in my haste to describe the city several posts ago, I missed a 4th Worship Hall. The one described in the opening to the players' thread is the one used mainly for travelers and patrons of Erian's Rest.
The Worship Hall at the corner of Hamia's Passage and Freya's Lane is used mainly residence area for the local clergy. It is also mainly used the druids and lumberjacks residing in the community dorms on the east side of Erian's Glen.
Sorry for the confusion,
Cheers

Upon entering Erian's Glen Aradove will wonder around town taking in the location and sights to become familiar with the layout. She will stop by The Worship Hall at the corner of Hamia's Passage and Freya's Lane and then onto Erian's Rest for a bite to eat and some visiting with Erian and a few of the other travelers she has met. At dusk she will head to the Druid's Circle & GoldLeaf Forest to get some rest. She plans to go back to Erian's Rest in the morning to continue her journey wit the rest of the caravan.
Sorry about last night but I was really tired and I try to post as soon as I can. I hope that this gives you more to work with. Please let me know if I am doing anything "wrong" as I still am not sure how to go about all of this. Oh yea so about the gather skill I don't have a point thing for it so that is why I was asking about all of that. So how would that work then?
Thanks

Let me first say that you are doing great. Your background gave me plenty to work with. It was well written and well thought out. On to Gather Information. The 'point-thing' you refer to is, I am assuming a rank. Even if you did not put any ranks in Gather Information, you can still use the skill 'Untrained' (meaning the ability to use a skill with out ranks) What you would do is roll a d20, then add the ability modifier. I am at work so I am not sure if it is Int., Wis., or Cha.
I hope this helps, and I hope I didn't make it more complicated.

am terribly sorry to be holding things up; had computer problems; am back online now and good to go; interestingly enough I ran some statistics and number combination on the regular 4d6 drop lowest and 10 columns and compared the number values of points per each compared to the rules in the book for point values of games; this makes no sense to me anyhow; with I came up with highest of 40 points and lowest of 25 points; true that hundreds of sequences would give better data; but interestingly enough; the data shows exactly a 32 point average; so my question is how in the world did they come up with the table for 32 points as a high power game? just a curiosity; guess I am already thinking like a gnome :)

I guess for game balance reasons the system gives everyone a base amount of points. Now with a 32 point system, you can use all of your points on a 1 to 1 cost basis and end up with 5 abilities with 14 and one ability with 10. 14's being considerd 'above average' can give you a higher powered game. Now, of course, with the luck of dice you can do better or worse.
So does this mean you have a character? :-)

Ok, I have four of you started in the Players' Thread. Erian_7 just got back from holiday, and we should here from him soon. Valegrim, how is the spellthief coming along. Please have him done by Monday. I would like to really get this rolling by then.
Any thoughts so far? Are your characters where they want to be?
Aradove, is this making any sense yet? Are you having Fun?

I am having fun other than the fact that it is going to drive me crazy not to be able to read the Spoilers and Dreamweaver thinks that this is funny cause he knows that it is true. I am worried that what I write will not sync with like what Shepherd Veirax or other people write. But I guess that is what you do right? But to answer your question yes I am having fun and I am glad that I managed to write my first official game post and didn't have any problems, ok yea I did have Dreamweaver read it over before I posted it :)
