Memnons background

Spoiler:
Memnon was born into a wealthy family in Aidens Wall. His father, Jerald owned a large masonry company and several farms surrounding the city. The Varial family grew from nothing when Jerald was born to one of the most influential in the city as Jerald used his business sense and loose morals. As Memnon grew up Jerald started training him on how the run the family and Memnon quickly took to the challenge eager to please his father.

In the last five years farms on the outskirts of town were experiencing an increase in raids and where loosing a lot of their crop from a bandit known as the Grey Wolf. The farmers started to have trouble because they didn’t have enough of there crop to sell and they quickly ran out of money. Jerald took advantage of their plights and would buy off the farmer’s debt and guard their farmer in exchange for 75% of their profits. Several farmers quickly took the offer and Jerald soon owned four farms surrounding the city.

When Memnon was fourteen he followed his father as he left for a meeting out of the city wanting to come along. Before he caught up to his father Memnon noticed that Jerald and his bodyguards did not stay on the main road but started riding into the forest instead. Curious Memnon followed and they soon came to a small fortified structure hidden deep in the forest. Memnon left his horse deep in the trees and quietly slipped into the fort, and followed his father to a large building inside. As Memnon watched through the window a large man walked up to Jerald and greeted him with a smile and handshake, Memnon knew that man for the wanted posters all over town, the Grey Wolf. Jerald informed him of the next farm he was interested in and told the bandit where he could find the hidden supplies the bandits needed. Memnon shocked ran from the fort and rode his horse deep into the forest.

For several days Memnon wandered through the forest and struggled with his thoughts, his father was associated with a know bandit. As he wandered in the forest he made up his mind on what he was going to do. Memnon returned to his home and told his father that he was leaving and wanted to learn the healing ways of the Great Temple in Cein. Memnon would not tell his father why he decided this and quickly flew into a rage and screamed that Memnon was no longer part of this family as he walked out and left his family behind.

Memnon arrived at the Great Temple and was at a loss, his father was not a faithful man and Memnon didn’t know a lot about the Great Temple. As Memnon wandered outside trying to get inside a guard at the front told him he was not allowed inside and told him to talk to some one at the Grand Worship Hall in Aidens Wall. When Memnon arrived there he wandered around wondering what to do next. After a while an older cleric walked up and asked him if he needed help, Memnon told the priest that he had come to serve in the Temple. The cleric was a follower of Fharlanghn named Ollinoph and he took Memnon outside and sat him down. “I sense that you are not here for the right reason young man, why do you think that you need to join this holy order?” Memnon looked at the priest, “I need the fight the evil that surrounds me and this is the only way I can think to do that.”
Ollinoph smiled, “I suggest that you conquer your inner demons and them come back and we will talk. Take your self and head out into the world and see what you find.”

Memnon gathered his gear and left the city of Cein and headed out on the road. For two years he wandered and explored the surrounding area and months from his eighteenth birthday he came upon a band of goblins attacking a women and a group of children with her. The goblins were mostly playing with the women as she tried to defend the children. Memnon charged in and put himself between the goblins and the women and shouted a challenge as he drew his sword. The goblins attacked and Memnon fought them all as the women quickly fled with the children. The battle was brutal and Memnon killed four of the goblins before the last two struck him down.

As his blood poured onto the ground and the warmth left his body he heard a soft voice and a soft light pierced his mind. His wounds closed and warmth returned and as Memnon looked up the smiling face of the women greeted him. Her name was Seriion and she thanked him for defending her and the orphans that she was leading to the Grand Worship Hall in Aidens Wall. Memnon returned to Aidens Wall with them and as they entered the Grand Worship Hall in Aidens Wall Seriion was greeted by the same old man Memnon talked to two years before. Seriion introduced the old man as her father and Ollinoph informed her that they had already met. Seriion told Ollinoph about the battle and he looked at Memnon and said, “You are know ready to join us in fighting evil but I think you would be better off joining the Knights of Rutania. You it seems have been blessed by Fharlanghn to be protector of travelers and the road.”

For three year Memnon trained to be a knight during which his father has solidified his position as the most influential person in Aidens Wall. Upon being given his title he started walking the road to find people in need and preparing himself for the eventual confrontation with his father.
