I tend to think the Powers might be inclined to make the full pdf unavailable until the book has hit the shelves for a few days; I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are a lot of integrity-challenged (pirates) just waiting in the shadows...
Understood. I guess it comes down to 2 questions: 1) will PDFs be watermarked to discourage sharing (I like this idea), and 2) will Pathfinder be available (ie mailed out) to subscription holders before it hits the general public's shelves?

1) Yes.
2) Right now, the plan is to ship copies to distribution just about the same time we ship subscriber copies. Since subscriber copies go directly to the subscriber, and distribution copies go to distributors before they go to retail, subscribers will likely see their copies a few days before they arrive at retail—assuming the USPS doesn't dilly-dally, that is. It's a goal, but it's most certainly not a guarantee.Keith Richmond Lone Shark Games |
I would also be more than happy to try out a combined package, and would be fine with a delay to ship together option (I'd suggest giving the option, however, like amazon does)
I think I'm more likely to do a combined package long haul - if gamemastery is separate, I'd probably try out a subscription for a bit but possibly turn it on or off as whim hit me... whereas if I could tie them together with easier shipping and perhaps a minor discount, I'd just leave it be and cheerfully increase my collection of available material. I'd love to be able to have multiple shelves devoted to paizo (only 1 right now)

There's probably no-one reading this thread anymore, but just in case, here's another suggestion: a signed edition subscription service. I'd pay more for a subscription where every module is signed by the author(s)...that would be cool, indeed.
Just so you know, we are still reading this, and all other threads quite closely. As for the signed edition, that might be something we offer. Of course, since many of our authors are out of house, that might not be completely feasible.

Just add another vote of support...
UK subscription for GameMastery modules - excellent idea
Combined Pathfinder / GameMastery shipping meaning lateness - not a problem. Once it starts they'll be delivered regularly and we are used to Dungeon and Dragon arriving later in the UK than we see them on the website anyway.
Thanks for considering this.

I think I have already voted...but just to reiterate: I would prefer a subscription service. FYI, I am not looking for a price break here, I just want the convenience of not having to order everything individually.
And as for the autographed subscription, I would sign up for that even if only some of the issues were signed...

I would like every item I purchase to be signed by Mike McArtor - whether or not he had anything to do with it. Does he have the time?.

Thanks for the positive response to the idea of a GameMastery Module subscription. We're very interested in the idea and I STRONGLY suspect that this is something we will announce very soon.
It probably won't happen until we get back to Seattle next week, though, as we're all at the GAMA Trade Show showing off Pathfinder and our GameMastery line to distributors and retailers. The response so far has been phenomenal.

I still think this is a great idea, and I keep checking the boards and GameMastery modules section of the store daily.
Is there any word on this forthcoming soon?

Great, thanks! Looking very much forward to ordering a joint Pathfinder/GameMastery subscription. ;) BTW, it would be nice if you could also think of a solution for the first issues of GameMastery before PathFinder starts -- maybe bundle them together into one shipment, or wait for the first Pathfinder shipment and put them in with that one?

Much of the reason that we haven't announced a subscription plan yet is that we have a bunch of details like that to work out first. Trust me—it's on the top of several people's to-do lists.
Skeld |
I would be all over a Gamemastery subscription. Especially so if the issues were at a discount from retail (like Pathfinder) and could be bundled with Pathfinder to cut shipping costs.
Glad to hear it's at the top of some folks' to-do lists.

Another voice!
I will be more than glad to sign on for a Module subscription service, as well. I would be perfectly happy if a combination subscription resulted in a delaty for Pathfinder.
This is exactly why I've waited before signing on as a Pathfinder Charter subscriber. :-) I'm waiting for the kinks to work out, plus I want EVERYTHING that Paizo has to offer to come to my mailbox monthly. ;-)
I'm looking forward to whatever Paizo has to offer.

I gotta chime in here too. I jumped on the charter subscription for Pathfinder already, but with the GameMastery modules also supporting and expanding the Varisia campaign setting, I'd be very much interested in subscribing to those too. Just make sure you give those of us who subscribed early on to Pathfinder an easy way to sych up an additional subscription for GameMastery.
Two great tastes that taste great together! (Oops, did I just touch on those same puns Mike used about "flavor" and "crunch" recently...?) ;)

Would you be willing to wait for delivery of your Pathfinder because the GameMastery module hasn't arrived yet? (Or vice-versa.)
As long as it doesn't extend it so that I don't get both once a month, I'm fine with that. I don't need to be the first (or one thousandth for that matter) to read the material. I just want it to so I can possibly use it in my setting.

Heh I somehow missed this thread and just had D0 and D1 added to an order containing a backordered product. I guess I can delete those too if the subscription service is added since I'd sign up for the subscription service, especially if it could be bundled with Pathfinder for shipping savings (the reason I asked for my preorders to be bundled with the backordered product was for shipping savings).
Though my avatar is Belkar and not Elan, let me sing a little inspirational song for Gary..."Rewrite, rewrite, rewrite the nasty code." :)

It's not nasty code! It's just code that needs to gain a couple feats and gain entry into the Repository of Code that Must Be Kept.
No! It *is* nasty, bad, eeeeeevil code, and it must be bypassed and broken down for placement into the Repository of Ones and Zeros that Must Be Vilified!

I'm in for the adventure subscription idea, especially since Pathfinder and Gamemastery are going to be in the same setting. And I don't care if they arrive together or not, since I suspect Pathfinder issues and Gamemastery adventures probably won't be released on the same schedule - at least, not for long. It would be great if they were released together to save on shipping, but I know I can't have everything. Or can I...

Both are being printed at the same printer in China, and we think both products will be on the same boat each month, so simultaneous shipping may not require significant delays. We'll have to see how that plays out in practice, though.
Germytech |
Right now, Gary's rewriting most of our shipping code, which we have to do before we can offer this service. We won't have a subscription offer for at least a week—probably more like two.-Vic.

Let's see... May 8th, plus 14 days, gives us... May 22nd...
What do you know? That's today! ;-)
Now, I don't mean to pressure you guys: you are already going above and beyond all expectations. But I am definitely eager to hear about a Module subscription and the possible Pathfinder bundling option....

So, the first GameMastery module will be out next month -- and there's still no subscription option available... I don't mean to nag, but it's getting rather close now, isn't it? (I'm not even talking about the combined GameMastery/Pathfinder subscription yet...)

I've been waiting too and my wallet is getting twitchy...

Proposal:
I am one of those european subscribers.
Could your code include a combined subscription for both GM and PF?
Advantage for all combo subscribers abroad would be reduced shipping costs... Even 5$$ per issue aren't a small price considering the cover price of each GM module...
Thanks for your effort!

Günther, that's definitely something that has been talked about. I'm not privy to all the details, so all I can really say is that.

I already mentioned this in another thread, but since you seem to be gathering info here will reiterate my support for a Game Mastery subscription plan with combined shipping for Pathfinder subscribers. Given the choice, I would rather have Pathfinder ship on time and have the GM modules delayed until the next PF ships.

I know, lately I grew a pain in the a... for the stuff. :p
Too much time for reading the message boards, I'd guess. Too "writetive" lately... ;-)But then self-awareness is supposed to be the first step to betterment [<-- germanism-alarm!].
Thanks for the information!

Said subscriptions are the number two item on Gary's to-do list, and he's close to wrapping up the number one item.
In short... still working. Stay tuned.
Great! It's getting close time-wise.. ;)
Have you worked out a solution to the GameMastery-starts-earlier-than-Pathfinder issue yet?
Vic Wertz Chief Technical Officer |
We'll probably start to take subscriptions this week.
Subscriptions won't include D0—you'll need to purchase that separately (or just download the free PDF when it's available), since we have a limited supply, and since many of you will be picking it up for free at your FLGS.
The first couple of modules will be shipped as they're released—we're not offering the ability to hold them until Pathfinder ships, because we're still working out the whole combination process—but we hope to have it worked out in time to combine D2 with the first volume of Pathfinder for those who have subscribed to both.
