okay, there is no question as to the one true master of adventure design now. Richard Pett has won the contest between himself and that upstart Logue. Using JJ's setting, he had really made a delicious adventure for killer DMs (i'm one of those, BTW)! and the setting itself is beautiful. one could run an entire campaign just in this one place. it is so rich, pwerful, and devilishly majestic, i don't know where to start a party out in this place. boy oh boy, can't wait until the PCs in my party get there.
you know, i am really envious of the players in your campaigns sir. envious indeed!
keep up the good work!
sorry nicholas. really, i am. do try harder.

Ha! You're not sorry. Don't pretend like you are.
I'm really looking forward to this one! Sadly, on the island we gets our Dungeons a bit later than most folk (I just got #145 yesterday...and it's totally awesome! I love all three adventures). I'm sure Scuttlecove is a stellar piece worthy of much teeth-gnashing on my part. Well done Rich...we meet again on the field of battle soon! :-)

Nick, his author bio suggests he's claimed his revenge against you, but I have yet to find whatever defamatory material he wrote about you in the adventure (just went out and bought it at Barnes & Noble today since the damned thing hasn't been delivered to me yet!).
I'll be sure to let you know when I find it (more fuel for the fire! yay!).

**Full disclosure - I am a Pettite. So there**
As consistently great as the STAP has been, I think that Scuttlecove is the best installment yet. Yucky, moody and memorable, it serves as a great backdrop for further adventure. Now, where is my copy of Phorphyry House Horror?
And, Steve, I believe what you might be looking for is the oblique reference to the Young Master in the rookery.

*Sigh* I know all about his slanderous insults already Steve, but thank you for offering to give me the gory details.
That Pett...what are we going to do with him. Here on the boards I have gone out of my way to exercise a judicious amount of civility in every post...never called England "ninny ninny land" or hurling insults based on Rich's "advancing years." Yet somehow out of some wild uncontrollable jealous rage. He feels the need to create an NPC of me in the most vile caricaturization. I just want to make it clear that I would NEVER stoop to such a level, and frankly I find his behavior disgraceful.
I expect that our good and virtuous Paizo officiates shall exact their retribution for his rude and insolent behavior towards a fellow contributor by NEVER again printing his work and blacklisting him from these messageboards.
And I'm suing him by the way...for all the spotted dick and fags I can get in International Court...Colonies forever! :-)

"Lessee... Last of page 57 and beginning of page 58. Man, I laughed so hard when I saw that. I guess I'm a complete Messageboard Geek (tm).
i just got the reference. oh man, he really got you there, nicolas. now all you have to do is write a great adventure to get your revenge. good luck!
advance slaymate.....
frantic writing... harpies think you're adorable. awww... how cute.
and speaking of cute, oh my god, tyralandi is yummy. makes me want to go to the porphyry house myself. hawt isn't the word. speechless, that's it. OH MY GAWD!

I absolutely can't wait to use Cold Captain Wyther. What a badazz!! And somehow, I'm not tired of the "Mini-Demogorgon" monsters in the appendices, yet. I love the Orlath, with its 17 attacks! (I wanna give it levels in dervish, pleeeese...)
Anyway, I especially enjoy the very mature setting. Surely, this backdrop will overtake Alhaster (AoW) as the most loathed backdrop amongst my players, for its palpable evil and corruption.
Finally, I especially liked the consistent use of varied yuan-ti, a race that doesn't seem to get much attention outside of Forgotten Realms adventures. Time to constrict...

This is too damn funny. Rich, you've outdone yourself!
"...the harpies have come to adore the thing and regard it as the most precious, delicate, and talented wonder in their lives. Little Ghoule adores all this attention, and plays on it constantly..."

Thanks guys, Scuttlecove is really, really awesome and that's down to James, with such a cool place it was much easier to come up with the goods - although I was quite pleased with the harpies (and the illo is very fine indeed) and the Wreck was fun. Actually I believe the Goule you got was the toned down version which had a few more references to the Styes - maybe next time...or perhaps I can root it out of my computer some time and post it right here.

How about a page reference, Vattnise?
Oh, and the illustration for Tyralandi is... SMOKING HOT!. So hot that you would pronounce it HAWT!
Damn where's my Issue man!!! Tyralandi was dissapointing to look at In Porphyry House Horror, can't wait to see the makeover! Is there an Illustration of the Orlath Demon I hope to see something good! Thou I wasn't dissapointed with him the first time around.

I must join the band wagon and say that Scuttlecove is amazing. I was reading it with my brother sitting next me. I kept nudging him to have him read parts of it.
Tyralandi is amazingly hot, but she'll never be cooler than Harliss. Ain't no way, ain't no how.
Thanks Rich and James and everyone! It was a joy to read.

Oh noes!!! I'm sorry my man! Hey GGG!...I finally got #145!!! WERE_CABBAGE MADNESS!!! I love "Vile Addiction"...just absolutely adored it. I will probably write up my full on rave review tomorrow sometime and post it...but I just wanted to let you and our fellow were_cabbages know: Pure Evil Genius Work!!! So full of flavor, and the Exag backdrop was incredible. The adventure and backdrop synthesize so well it's scary...really gives you a total sense of "being there!" Great work!

Huzzah!
I remember reading Scuttlecove back in Dungeon 95 and thinking 'this is exactly the sort of campaign setting I want.' Gosh, there was no Logue or Vaughn or Greer in those days...James' splendidly twisted mind has made a place that is both very memorable and totally without redemption. There is a lovely Clive Barker feel about that whole adventure he wrote and I hoped to transmit that with the harpies and other vile goings on. The fact that the words came so easily is definately down to James' unique setting.
I do feel that Scuttlecove would make a wonderfully grotesque adventure path setting in its own right, with the chance to develop some nearby alarmingly twisted villages, mad cults and savage natives terrified of the vile oppressors - perhaps a slave uprising even? Again, once I've finished murdering a few innocent NPCs horribly today, I'll have a look through my files and see if I can't find an additional safe house that didn't make the cut so you can use it if you wish as a thank you for all your kind words.

hey nic what issue is your sequal to Chimes at Midnight being in??
MUUUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA! Enjoy your paltry while it lasts Pett...only a few short months from now dildydilderson...I'm not sure if its definitely nailed down yet, so I won't say, but soon...very soon...
MUUUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!
P.S. The best is that Pett KNOWS this one's taking him down...He's seen the proposal, and that alone was enough to terrify him. Be afraid Pett, be very afraid...but enjoy this outstanding victory now. I can't wait to read Scuttlecove my man!!!

Only one question I have about Scuttlecove....where are the islands with respect to the Isle of Dread and Greyhawk?
Either the the adventure and backdrop don't say, or I can't find it. If the latter, does anyone have a page number?
Wait...just found a reference to Dungeon Magazine #95...now where did I put that one?

The islands and location of Scuttlecove appear on the regional map of the world between Sasserine and the Isle of Dread that appeared in issue #141 in "The Sea Wyvern's Wake." Scuttlecove's northeast of the Isles of Mist, in the aptly named Pirate Isles.

I'll be damned, I just looked at the download for 141 and there it is! I didn't even know it was there.
