...what creature has a paralysis cone, though? No dragons that I know of.
Silver dragon? Cone of cold, cone of paralysis.
Gold is cone of fire and cone of weakening.
Bronze is line of lightning, cone of repulsion.

Line of Lightning
If I could breathe a weapon that's what it would be. Shazaam! Blau! Stuff just exploding with electricity when I breathe at it...now that's pretty awesome. I dig on fire too...so classic, but I love breathing lightning at people. They're like: "holy s~+!, he's breathing lightning at me!!!" And I love the look on their face both before and after they're thunderstruck by my breath. Good times, good times.

Cone of cold. I can just see this massive blizzard coming out of the dragon's maw and the PCs going all stiff and blue and falling over like the dudes in the helicopter in that movie about the core-flip.
Did anyone undertand that reference? Coz I'm not sure if I did!
I HATE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH!!!
I was visting a friend and it was on and I couldn't help but watch it because that's what I do when the tv is on. Can someone please explain to me what the hell the plan was?
Son: "Gee Dad, thanks for coming all the way to NY in this godforsaken blizzard. I'm sorry to hear that your friend died on the way. Oh, by the way WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?!?! YOU DIDN'T BRING ANY WAY FOR US TO GET OUT OF HERE!?"
Dad: "Oh son, don't worry about that, some helicopters will get here soon and bail us out."
Dead Friend: "Wait??!?! Helicopters?!??! Why didn't we just ride one of those? WHY DID I HAVE TO DIE?!?!?!"
I HATE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH IT BURNS WHEN I URINATE!!!

Yes. It was a terrible, terrible tragedy that I lost about 2 and a half hours of my life watching Elijah Wood or whatever trekking through the snow. None of the characters seemed to have any common sense.
Still, it was rad when those guys got frozen. Cone of cold.

I think Kahoolin's first reference may have been to The Core. (That line about the core flip)
Every contributed reference after that was to The Day After Tomorrow. (Which may also have had a core flipAnd Kahoolin capped it with a scene from Deep Impact. (Elijah refernce instead of Gyllenhal)
Or maybe everyone's exactly right and my brain has turned to grey mustard.

Pickled herring is the an extremely watered down excuse of a breath weapon. All other breath weapons have their charm and punch and other kinds of breath weapons can include esoteric variations such as blightfire which can have either a withering effect or a decaying effect. Another kind could be vast swarms of deadly incects; imagine a dragon that breaths vast clouds of flesh eating incects that leaves nothing behind but the bones of the victims. another kind could have a petrfying effect in where the victims turn to stone and then shatter to pieces. Another kind could be vast globs of liquid magma or molten tar there could be dragons in where the breath weapon could be heated shrapnel. The list goes on and on because it boils down to this: never discount the power of other kinds of breath weapons.

I'm laying it down. Anyone who picks other is a pickled herring.
Ha ha! Guess which finger I'm holding up!
I picked other because my top two favorites are the cone of euphoric gas from the Fairie Dragon and the Cone of Rusting Phlem from the Rust dragon. Oh, you had a +2 Mithral Tower Shield? Well, now you've got flaking strips of trash, so sorry.

I don't think the thumb is a finger, but thanks!
The Jade - damnit, what are you some sort of bad movieologist. I haven't seen the Core, but I hate it too.
Gary - No more other options! Just put down the dogs that bark and bees come shooting out of their mouth. That's the right answer anyway. Anyone who has some other lame answer not on the poll can post here and whine about it.

Close - The Day After Tomorrow's the one I'm thinking of. You're right, it's Gyllenhaal. I guess I thought of the Woodster because he's the go-to-guy in my head for long arduous treks ;)
WTF is The Core?

WTF is The Core?
The earth's magnetic core... blah blah blah... journey through magma to the center of the earth to blah blah blah in a 'spaceship' piloted by Hilary Swank. Geodes the size of stadiums coming at you in the lava ocean. The fate of the world hangs in the blah blah blah...

Gomme. I know a bit too much about bad flicks. I'm a good movieologist too. Even a vague movieologist. Finding out this week that I couldn't get Les Cybele Dimanches de Ville d'Avray on DVD is killin' me.
Trust me, you would hate The Core, unless, like me, you occasionally delight at playing outspoken curmudgeon to films that are little more than flickering relaxants for a night of popcorn face shoving.

What types of breath weapon (if any) do Dracoliches get? Is it the same as in life? Cuz I'd love to see a Cone of Withering. Does such a thing exist?
Not until you just invented it. I really like that concept for the dracolich. Not quite a level drain but a life force depletion nonetheless.

I picked other.
Just to mess with Sebastian.
I also picked other, but for a very specific reason. My favorite breath weapon technically no longer exists. It was the 2E version of a green dragon's breath weapon - chlorine gas. These days the greens are another acid spitter. Since the question, as given, failed to clarify that we should refrain from considering 2E breath weapons, logically I was forced to commit to the other response.

I think my favorite would be lightning.
Better would be lightning followed by a thunder effect doing sonic damage and disorienting.
Followed by eldritch energy - as a warlocks blast.
Then cold.
Lets see: A dragon who rather than sending out a mere cone of fire - actually spewed fire elementals - in 4hd increments - they not onyl do the damage specified they stick around after attacking everything in sight.
I also like the idea of "soul fire" negative energy that burns away life energy (xp) - it could feed the dragon or not. Especially cool if coupled with real fire (or cold).
There was an episode in Inuyasha -where the heors ran into a demon wolf - this demon's breath weapon was to spew out packs of hellish wolves that fought for it - I thought that was kind of cool.
A simple jet of water could be cool.

WTF is The Core?
The others answered it already; but really, who among my fellow geologists did they bother to consult with? And no, I haven't watched it either. now we've got Sunshine with, you guessed it, a team flying to Pelor's/Apollo's/Re-Horakty's/Odur's symbol.
And as for the green dragon's chlorine breath weapon (as well as the gold's secondary breath weapon), had it been retained it would have been a poison dealing, what, HP damage plus possible nausea?

Saern |

I always assumed that the chlorine gas was retained and simply assumed to do acid damage. Kind of, "It's close enough for D&D mechanics" type thing. If that's not the case, then I would think it would do hit point damage (perhaps acid but not as much) and create a lingering cloud inflicting suffocation (as per the DMG). I think they wanted a slightly more "balanced" appraoch (not game balance, but more uniformity between true dragons and their varied forms of nastiness).

An exploding gem of force, from the 2nd ed. Amethyst dragon. Because nobody's immune to force. Oh and also to tick off Sebastard.
TS
Ooh, I remember that. It seemed like a pretty unbeatable breath. If I remember correctly, wasn't there like a 50% chance of being knocked unconcious each time? Then the dragon could go into serious kill mode.
A couple more somethings for the "other" category - isn't there a dragon with a sonic breath weapon? And another (the shadow dragon I think) whose breath drains strength or life force or something?
