Okay, i saw a similar topic on another of the boards i go to (Breaking Benjamin's website www.shallowbay.com, check it out)
It's kinda self explanatory, but the scene can be from ANY movie (Funny, Scary, anything)
I'll start it off...
LOTR - Fellowship: Boromir fighting to defend Merry and Pippin even though he's got 2 arrows in him
LOTR - Return Of The King: When Faramir and the Knights of Minas Tirith suicide charge Osgiliath with Pippin singing that sad song in the background
Also at the Black Gate when Aragorn charges out... alone... to meet the orc horde... then Merry and Pippin... then the rest of the army
Dragonheart: Sir Bowen realising he has to kill Draco for Einen to die... I cried when i saw that
King Arthur: Now alotta people have been bad mouthing this movie, and i have no idea why... it's a good historical interpretation (if it's not ENTIRELY historically accurate) and plus i like how they got rid of all the magic... and made the Knights Pagans (whoo go pagans!) anyways back to the classic scenes
Dagonet cracking the ice... Bors shouting the war-cry to the lone Arthur, then his knights join him... Tristan Sniping the traitor in the tree, then going toe to toe with Cerdic... plus if anyones seen the Alternate Ending, i think that would've been an awesome way to end the movie.
Now for my Funny ones :)
Pirates of the Carribean: Captain Jack Sparrow: "But where's the rum gone?"
Robin Hood - Men In Tights: The Duel Scene (Where Robin smacks the gauntlet into Rottingham's head) that was hilarious

LOTR - Fellowship: Boromir fighting to defend Merry and Pippin even though he's got 2 arrows in him
I totally agree with this scene...as well as the reconciling scene of Boromir's death..."my brother, my captain, my king!"
Two more from that one: The look on Viggo's face when Gandalf falls. And, Aragorn's reaction when he is offered the ring..."I would have gone with you to the end, into the very fires of Mordor."
And for silliness, Merry saying "Buckleberry Ferry!" That gets me every time.
Ok enough with that movie, on to my number 1 and number 2 movies of all time.
Jaws: "well, we delived the bomb" speech of the Indianapolis. chilling.
Godfather: Michael shooting the crooked cop (in the throat...yes!) and the dude that ordered the hit on his father. REVENGE!

Being a Kurosawa fan....
- the beheading of Lady Kaede from Ran. A real shock the first time you see it.
- the final battle in the rain at the end of the Seven Samurai.
And as a 2001 fan....
The scene on the moon when the monilith begins to broadcast to Jupiter, and the intesity of the signal deafens the assembled scientists.
"Daisy, Daaaaiseeeeey...." The end to the sinister/tragic character of HAL.

Raising Arizona- "Son, you got a panty on your head."
Waiting for Guffman- David Cross as a UFO expert measuring a crop circle "I've been coming to this circle for about five years, and measuring it. The diameter and the circumference are constantly changing, but the radius stays the same. [...] And another thing. Once you go into that circle, the weather never changes. It is always 67 degrees with a 40% chance of rain."
Princess Bride- well, the whole movie is a series of classic scenes stitched together.

The scene with Dragonheart totally gets me every time. I cry and weep - not something I normally do.
My favorite scenes with the Godfather are two:
1.) "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli." Mmm...cannoli...
2.) The scene where the brother-in-law is garotted in the car and Michael calmly watches the scene, then walks away.
Heat - "You wanna get some coffee?" and the following coffeehouse scene and the "I'm talkin' to an empty telephone" scene.
The Hunt for Red October - the missle room scene, with that looooooong line. Creepy, but good. Oh, and the opening scene with Sean Connery, where his face takes up the entire screen. I saw it in the theater and it had a HUGE impact on me. It's still my favorite movie of all time.
Casablanca - "Round up the usual suspects!", the scene at the end of the movie, Rick's Cafe American. Such a good flick - many an archetypal D&D NPC in that movie.
Replacement Killers - The opening scene - he walks up through the party and places a single bullet on the table. How freakin' ballsy is THAT?!?!
"Next time I have a gun in my hand, you and I are going to have this conversation again." Another classic line.
I'd have more, but alas, work calls.

Five off the top of my head:
1) Amelie - The scene that ends with Amelie turning to the camera and saying "Quinze". Heh...
2) Predator - Flying in on the 'chopper and one future governor is berating the rest of the chopper (including another future governor) about not trying any of his "chaw." I believe the line starts out "Y'all just a buncha slack-jawed..." Well... I'll stop there to keep things "PG".
3) LOTR - "They've got a cave troll..." Best. Line delivery. EVAR.
4) Trainspotting - Dude... There's a baby on the ceiling!
5) Swimming with Sharks - Kevin Spacey shares a phone call with his personal assistant on his way into work. Absolutely CLASSIC.

Saw :
When the movie finally reveals who Jigsaw is (worth millions!!)
Plains, Trains and Automobiles :
The whole scene with Steve Martin bad-mouthing the lady at the airport. (I laugh to tears every time)

The turning on of the outer Christmas lights. (Hilarious)
The part where Clark tries out his new wax on his sled. (I though it was funny…)

The scene where the Enterprise crashes into the enemy ship. (Wow.)
Star Wars Episode 1 :
When the hangar doors open and there stands Darth Maul. (Still gets me hyped!)

The whole opening scene in the future. (I would pay big bucks to see a whole movie like this!)
When I saw the T-1000 walk through the prison bars for the first time. (My jaw dropped.)
Jurassic Park :
When I saw those dinosaurs for the first time at the theatre (Man was I ever flabbergasted!)
The whole scene with the T-Rex attacking the trucks. (Special effects at its best!)

The whole opening scene with Nightcrawler at the White House. (That was just so damn cool!)
Raiders of the Lost Ark :
The scene where Indy comes face to face with a sword wielding guy, and just plain shoots him. (Funny as hell!)

Zulu: Michael Caine: "At one hundred yards, (entire garrison sets their sights to 100 yards in unison with proper British precision) present (entire garrison aims their rifles in unison)....FIRE!"
"Do your tunic up, man, where do you think you are?" (Color Sergeant Born berating a private for not having his British army tunic buttoned up all the way while 139 Welsh infantrymen are facing about 4000 Zulu warriors.
One of the last scenes when the British think they've survived the battle only to find the Zulus returning for one last look at Rorke's Drift. Michael Caine (Lt. Bromhead) starts yelling at them to "c'mon! c'mon!" but the Zulus just stand there and start chanting a long, low chant to salute the brave British garrison who fought them off even though outnumbered 20 to 1.
I love that movie because it's a true story of a real battle, a bit dramatized I'm sure, but more Victoria Crosses were given out there in one day than at any other place in British Army history, I understand.

Oh, and to look like a complete geek . . .
The final fight between Megatron and Optimus Prime in Transformers: The Movie . . .
"I'll rip out your optics!"
I always laught when I think about how many sentient creatures were slaugtered in the first half hour of that movie, and how graphic their destruction was, and have enjoyed the irony that if these had been "organic" beings, the movie would have gotten an NC-17 rating at the time, considering how the uncut Robocop was received.

Ahh, yes, Star Trek.
Star Trek II is the bomb. Love that movie. Ricardo Montalban as Khan is my model of what a bad guy should be. Classic quotes from that guy, far too many to list here.
Though I did like the theft of the Enterprise sequence from Star Trek III - that was completely and utterly cool and something my player group would do. "Look, this guy is our friend - nothing is going to stop us - not you, not the Federation, not a Klingon battlecruiser, not an exploding planet."

What about in "Sin City", when Marv (Mickey Roarke) almost looks like he's going to punch the nearly nude Lucille (Carla Gugino)? "This is blood for blood and by the gallon. These are the old days, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back! There's no choice left. And I'm ready for war." Or when Lucille screams over her missing hand?! AAAAAAAAAAAA!

Boomyow!
And from the ever-loving sequel:
"It's a trick. Get an axe."
All these references to Dragonheart - is this the movie with bad CGI effects and a dragon voiced by Sean Connery that came out in like 95-96 or is there some other Dragonheart movie that I haven't seen? Just curious if this is a difference in opinion (I couldn't stand the movie I've described) or a deficiency in my limited knowledge of good fantasy movies (some other movie titled Dragonheart exists and is good).

A Clockwork Orange- The opening pan-out from tight focus on Alex's eyes to the general scene of his court-like presence over his crew at the Korova Milkbar with the antiseptic white statues of submissive women with neon colored hair. ...The last 15 mins of "Stand By Me". When the boys go back to Castle Rock and the town seems a little smaller and then the slow fades of the dissolving friendships in voiceover and the final fade of River Phoenix...to Dreyfuss sitting in front of the blinking cursor and typing the profound...
"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"
wipes me out every time.

Boondock Saints. For plenty of reasons, but these are some of them:
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti.
And when I vest my flashing sword
And my hand takes hold in judgement I will take vengeance upon mine enemies
And I will repay those who hase me
O Lord, raise me to Thy right hand
And count me amoung Thy saints.Whosoever shed last blood.
By man shall his blood be shed.
For immunity of god make he the man.
Destroy all that which is evil.
So that which is good may flourish.
And I shall count thee amoung my favoured sheep.
And you shall have the protection of all the angels in heaven."Never shall innocent blood be shed.
Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river.
The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god.
If that ain't a suitable prayer of St. Cuthbert, I don't know what is.

Princess Leia kisses Han Solo or whatever and says, "I LOVE YOU!!" as the stormtroopers are dragging her off.
Han just looks at her, and says "I know."
Haha. You stole mine!
Star Wars, A New Hope: The ewoks distract the stromtroopers guarding the shield generator, leaving one left. Han Solo sneaks up behind him, taps his shoulder, and runs around the corner. The guard says, "Hey!" and runs after him weaponless. He's greeted by 20 rebels with blasters held to his face. He must have been a new recruit, i have no idea why you'd run after someone alone with no weapons who could have easily killed you.Vattnisse |
The "Ride of the valkyries" scene from "Apocalypse Now". Datara-ta-ta, datara-TA-TA... I also enjoyed the little girl lobbing a hand grenade into the Huey.
All of Rutger Hauer's stuff in "Blade Runner". "I need more life, f+~$er!"
The initial drill sergeant rant in "Full Metal Jacket". Hover, the platoon walking back to base at the end singing the Mickey Mouse song was even better.
Killing the cardinal in "The Godfather III". The first two movies are mega-classics, but to me, this scene really stands out.
Hmmmm... So far, there seems to be a dearth of scenes from Mr. Rambo's favourite flicks - Bad Boys 2 and Blade 2... Any takers?

"Next time I have a gun in my hand, you and I are going to have this conversation again." Another classic line.
Good one! However, in keeping with the "interupted party" theme, little beats Tom Cruise's nightclub shootout in "Collateral" - incidentally, about the only time I've liked the little squirt.

or the whole scene of 'the morning after' the zombie-ness has happened and the cool camera work that shows Shaun goin to the corner store and getting his Coke n ice cream and just totally oblivious to the mayhem that is going on around him.

Books? Definitely.
"The Hidden City" by David Eddings. The line where Sparhawk goes to fight the BBEG, and thinks to himself that he's really too old for this, but in the light of everything that was on the line, "he was good for at least one more fight."
That line has stuck with me and is a great way to sum up how my players play their characters, particularly the de facto leader. When the chips are down and the stakes are high, they'll do what needs to be done.
Valegrim |
yep; I thought maybe the Armageddon type movies would be based on the book "Lucifers Hammer" and was dissappointed it wasnt; that book is really a deep look into end of the world asteroids; two parts really; the panic before; and speculation on what it would be like after for the survivors.
Any Sparhawk book would be great; heck do the whole Elenium, he is a great character.
Just rented and watched Timeline; interesting concept and movie, but many of the characters were a bit stupid and unrealistic; I just cant suspend my disbelieve enough to have the marines killed off that quickly are believe anyone would be stupid enough to run in a straight line in the forest while being chased by a guy on horseback. Galloping on horseback in a fairly dense forest can get your neck broken real quick like. I simply can't understand why directors use stupid ploys to get rid of characters; just bad writing and lacks creativity.
gonna rent Ultaviolet on Tuesday if anyone wants my line on it. :)
oh; Pulp Fiction; in the diner where Samual L Jackson is describing his favorite scripture to the robber as lots of guns are pointed at each others and he has a epiphany of who is what part in the words by I think it was Elijah; and he puts his gun down; great scene.
