Sweet Water and Light laughter,

I just began running Murder In Oakbridge for my group which consists of the following.

A elven Half-demoness Scout/Wizard
A Halfling Healer
A Shifter Paladin of Silverflame a
A Warforged Artificer

I will keep you posted on how things go.

Just thought I would give a slight update, Not sure how many botchs a single player can role in any given situation! We managed to loose our Shifter, when went to investigate how the man fell from the balcony..and managed to fall from the balcony himself.

Botched his balance roll, and fell, managed to take all of his hitpoint damage, and fail his Fortitude save. Alas for the paladin, who is now one with the Silver Flame we hope.

Oh My!

That is quiet a mess, Lady *lol* It seems like the dice gods are out to get the player, I have seen it happen!

Hey, I think it would be neat to playtest an adventure through mail or something. So if thats what you want to do, let me know as well.

I never tried it but it sounds really cool!

Play by Mail can be fun especially if you can set a scedule, its a bit of work, but I have found its well worth it.

Ah thank you Uri yes we miss the paladin, alas we got to know so very little of him. He is missed by the halfling. The whole party really.

Are you responsiable for Ziki ? Since with the help of an item, she's gotten my PC into alot of trouble. *lol* Lets not forget maiming and possiable loss of sight. Heh!

I have liked the Eberron adventures Dungeon has published, apart from the latest one with the crashed airship and the dolgaunts. Grabted I can see a lit of cinematic action in that adventure.

Murder in Oakbridge is good. There is a lot of investigational work the characters must undergo to figure it out. I have yet to run it, but am considering it. I also enjoyed [url=http://paizo.com/dungeon/products/issues/2006/133]Chimes at Midnight[url], another Eberron mystery.

The PCs match wits with a brilliant assassin driven insane by the accidental death of her daughter years ago. To solve this dark murder mystery, the PCs must use their perception and intellect along with their arsenal of spells and abilities. A EBERRON adventure for 5th-level characters.

In the end...it was done with a velociraptor, on the bridge, by....

Just thought I'd chime in quickly. Murder in Oakbridge was one of the most sessions we had in my last campaign.

Spoilers

The party loved the Fighter-Artist (whose name escapes me, despite having just read it in the thread), who the fighter adopted as a trainer for a bit. I had Ziki try to poison some of the party members after they asked a few too many questions. Since they were staying at the Bluebird, it was easy. They had a very amusing session getting the Baker to confess to everything he had ever done (which does not include murder, luckily).

They figured out the flour clue pretty quickly, but the whole thing still took 2 sessions to resolve. There were a few stumbling points, but they caught up quickly. I had to advance the timeline slightly to get the plot back in motion (otherwise we would have had a few hours of useless investigation, which gets tedious pretty fast.)

Hmm Clue: Sharn That would be amusing. :D

I went through Chimes at Midnight also, right after I went through Murder in Oakbridge, but it was harder to identify for me with the villan of Chimes, than it was to identify with Ziki, it could just be a female thing, I can't honestly say! Only that in that situation, I can't say I would have responded much better.

Nick - finally got around to updating my blog with the last Act of "Chimes at Midnight".

As I said before, my PCs had a blast. I'm pretty sure I'd find some way to bring Victor back if you ever did a sequel that involved him. Even if he had to be undead Victor, that'd be okay. He'd make a great vampire ;-)

Thanks tree! I'll totally scope this out later tonight (gotta run to a rehearsal right now).

The sequel got the greenlight from James and Co. at the meeting last week, so it looks like it might be showing up in Dungeon at some point! Yea!

Yep, thought I would bring an update to this since I last lost my shifter, we've had some interesting things occur in game. Our party is pretty much split at the moment, those who think that Ziki is in the right and those that think though it was tragic, that Ziki shouldn't be killing people.

Its very interesting since now its not just a case of the party, working together but the party is still on friendly terms but have set different goals for themselves.

Most noteably, out Scout confronted Volin about Coraline and those two wound up in a rumble, and both were tossed in jail by the watch, slightly throwing Ziki's plans off, because well, he was in jail. I am only waiting to see who is going to get to him first, Ziki or Kirri.

It's interesting that some members of your group found Ziki a "on the right side" because anyone I ever mentioned Ziki to (both gamers and non-gamers) whether they felt pity or loathing said that she should be hung or imprisoned as a menace to society. Surely the fact that

<SPOILERS>

her daughter was killed in an innocent accident many years ago

<SPOILERS

does not justify the murder of completely unrelated people, such as drummer for example, whose only fault was that he worked for the circus at the time.
But on the internet I found, to my great surprise, that many gaming groups thought it was O.K to kill people because of personal tragedy and even sympathized with the murderess, I wonder if I am too cruel or you are too merciful... :)

<SPOILERS>

I think it is all about reflection, you see I played Ziki as was noted, she at times will burst into tears, over her lost child, she was literally shattered by what happened. She see's killing these people as putting right her child's murder. It might not be right in the eyes of law, but its ethically right to her, she honestly believes this, makeing her both a villian and a victim. Maybe it was my fault for playing her as I saw her, and having people feel compassion for her.

My group:
Kirrialis - The half demoness was almost killed as a child, all she ever wanted was to be accepted and loved, to have parents who wanted her. She felt that Ziki was right in it, in many ways it is a wistful hope from her to have had a mother who would go through hell for her, so she sided with Ziki obviously for personal reasons of her own.

Vie- The party changling, felt that it was just another attack on his people since nothing was done for Ziki or her child, and the others seemed to show little remorse for what happened, it was just another person, just another changling and child. His major concerns was the lack of care, and thus he sided with Ziki as well.

Simbra- The healer felt that death for any reason was unacceptable, and she is very neutral in the fact that she thinks that Ziki needs to be healed, mentally. Thus her refusal to side with or against.

Timber- The Warforged wants answers as to why she killed Drummer when both there people are also not widely accepted. When he likely wasn't even present when the dinosaurs attacked.

So they are very torn, Coraline and Volin didn't really help them since their trying to cover up their own infidelities in this, and were rather sharp with the PC's about it. The PC were trying to piece together the past, so they could get a view of the current picture, but because of certain things, there views are not good of the remaining members of the circus.

Hey Treehouse! Finally got some free time to read your blog and it is awesome! I was traveling around (stopping into Seattle to visit the Paizo crew) and bogged down with rehearsals and deadlines, but tonight was my first night with some free time packed away in awhile, and I really enjoyed reading your blog! Thanks for taking the time to put it together, and I am glad your players had a good time with Chimes. I'll try and get the sequel into manuscript form sooner rather than later.

Take care and good gaming to you and yours!

Thanks. I'll be keeping an eye out for the sequel. Since Ziki is due to escape prison in about three in-game days here, maybe she'll join 'undead Victor' in some high-level hijinx ;-)

On another note, it looks like I may be playing in one of your adventures soon instead of running it. One of my players is starting up Savage Tide in October, and I saw your name on the list of authors involved.

Right on! I wrote the installment coming up this issue (#140). I won't spoil anything for you...except to say it's brutal. Be afraid. ;-)

And have fun! :-)

I have two questions as I am about to start this module and I see that Uri tends to be around, and answers question. Which is a big help Thank You.

1. What is Ziki's daughter's name
2. How long after the War is this, how long has it been since her daughter was killed in the attack, I might have missed this in the description somewhere, but I understand her husband served in the war, so I was curious how long ago it all happened, since people had time to move away and set up new lives.

I appriciate this,
Wanderingbard

Bumping this thread hopefully.

Give it at least a few days before giving up on the author answering the question. Message boards are lots of fun but not everyone has a chance to check them every day.

It is a great adventure. I have yet to run it, but I have included the PCs in it in my campaign already, tying it to one of the characters.

A plus side is that it is easily adaptable to any setting and that it is a great city adventure that does not use dungeons, something we see very little of.

Clearly I am not Uri, but I did pass your question along to him, he said he had not thought on Ziki's daughter's name. He said it would likely be something Changling-ish, since both her parents were rogues. So my suggestion is to flip to the changling creation section and pick a name that <i>feels</I> right.

2. About five years after the first War, was what he said. Long enough to still be hurt but be able to start another life.

This was a very good adventure I had great fun playing in it. I have not run it. Your players might surprise you on how they handle it.

This is just to apologize for not replying you as I see Arinise did a rather good job at it.

I just didn't think the adventure will still be mentioned in the threads after so much time.
Thanks.

Don't go to far Uri. Its almost January and myself or one of the other regulars will soon create a Thread where we pick out our favourite adventures from the last year. I have a hunch that Murder at Oakbridge will get a lot of picks as a favourite.

Thanks! You might be interested to know that there is a green-lit manuscript for a sequel that is being examined/ scrutinized by the three great J's even as we speak.

It is deffinantly one of my favorite reads, this adventure is going to be added into my Savage Tides game, feel sorry for Shadowshore.

I can not wait to see the next installment.

Question on fingers,

When Ziki is in disguise does she still have only 3 fingers (or 2 fingers and a thumb). Isn't this a give away. Or do all her disguises wear gloves?

Or does her minor shape change allow her to imitate the missing fingers? I would think not otherwise why would she ever restore her hand to a form with the missing digits?

Thanks. Getting ready to run.

I'm actually thinking about a CSI:Sharn campaign sometime in the future (it probably won't be for awhile though - just starting Savage Tide).

I was planning on starting with "Queen with the Burning Eyes," and I'm definitely going to run "Steel Shadows" in there somewhere. "Chimes" and "Oakbridge" are also on the list.

I'm looking for other adventures to add in to the mix. I'm thinking "Fallen Angel" from #117 could work - still tied to investigation, but a bit less murder mystery. I'm also hoping to introduce Viktor St. Demain early in the arc as a friendly rival of the PCs - perhaps even teaming up to catch one of the NPCs in "Chimes" as a side quest.

I had heard there was a potential sequel for "Chimes" which I was hoping for to give the arc a bit of a spine, but a potential sequel to "Murder at Oakbridge" is unexpected - and awesome! Any word on if/when we might see these next two adventures?

I'm planning to adapt "Swords of Dragonslake" to Sharn - I already have some NPCs hip deep in the theatre scene from an earlier campaign. It would be fun to dust them off.

I wonder about "Shut-in." I don't know anything about it, but it could be a good stop gap after "Queen." This thread is the first I had heard of it though. Any thoughts from those who have run it?

I would also like to ask if there are other adventures to look into as potential additions to this line-up in Dungeon's back catalog. I used to buy the magazine with some frequency back the the proverbial day, but I only recently rediscovered all it's creamy, oozey goodness.

I feel like I have rambled long enough - I'll just throw this out there and see what sticks.

Sounds like a truly awesome and nearly dungeon crawl free Urban campaign Filmguy!

The sequel to "Chimes" (entitled "Quoth the Raven") is coming out pretty soon...a little bird told me. Just a few months away.

You may also wish to fit
Gallery of Evil
in there as well.

I've seen some of the stuff Steve is putting together for it and it is killer, and perfect for a dark urban CSI campaign.

Great idea, Filmguy! Once you've compiled your list of adventures you should share it on the WotC boards too, I bet a bunch of folks have toyed with the CSI: SHARN campaign idea, but you really have a great list compiled.

Our Eberron game, which follows the exploits of the Marple, Marlowe, and Spade Inquisitives agency, just completed Murder in Oakbridge the other night. It really gave our investigation and social skill heavy party a chance to shine. We had a great time. As a player I'm thrilled to hear that there is a sequel to Oakbridge in the works.

Filmguy, I would recommend Shut-In. It sounds like you're planning to use many of the same adventures we have. Shut-In provided a great start to our campaign, it really set the right tone.

I'm glad to hear Chimes praised so highly as well (and that there is a sequel in the works). I think our DM has that one lined up next. I can't wait.
