New Pathfinder Adventure Path volume now available!
Get ready to go where no Pathfinder has gone before with our latest Pathfinder Adventure Path volume!
Tesla, trench warfare, and tanks await you in the latest Pathfinder Adventure Path volume, "Rasputin Must Die!" After their frostbitten adventures on the world of Triaxus in "The Frozen Stars" this adventure takes your PCs to a region embroiled in a devastating war, the place where Baba Yaga's trail runs cold—post-revolution Russia! That's right, this penultimate part of the Reign of Winter Adventure Path sends your adventurers to the early 20th century, where technology and world-spanning magic have combined as part of machinations of the Mad Monk, Grigori Rasputin! Baba Yaga's downfall is imminent, and to stop all of Golarion from plunging into a never-ending winter, your PCs will have to brave this strange new world as well as the horrors of modern warfare!
To help with running "Rasputin Must Die!", we've provided a number of useful articles for your adventure in coldest Siberia. "Guns, Spirits, and Revolution" covers everything you need to know about running an adventure during early 20th century Russia, with modern firearms, equipment, explosives, and even a new fighter archetype and an occult oracle mystery! (Don't worry, we didn't forget the magic items in this volume, and they have their own modern twist as well!) Fans of our series of articles on deities will not want to miss the article on the Horseman of War, Szuriel, and her designs upon mortal souls. We also get another chapter in "The Bonedust Dolls" from Kevin Andrew Murphy. And finally, four new foes await in this volume's bestiary: the animated tank, the daemonic genthodaemon footsoldiers, vile fext, and the sentient trench mist and its animate zombie minions!
Check out the rest of the worlds-spanning Reign of Winter Adventure Path, and stay tuned for its conclusion with The Witch Queen's Revenge!

Wait we also get a new fighter archetype! I think we finally have a fighter archetype for firearms. Would make sense with the need to include some form of WW1 russian soldier in Pathfinder terms.

Also, here's hoping that neither the AP chapter nor the "Guns, Spirits, and Revolution" article pushes any kind of agenda besides having fun.

When we made the call to go with this volume of the Adventure Path, we were very concerned how people would take it. We knew it was a risky move and we knew it would turn off some people who buy our Adventure Paths, but we also suspected a bunch of people would be really excited by this endeavor.
We were also very concerned about how we were going to treat the modern elements of this adventure. We knew that dealing with modern themes had to be done right concerning mechanics, but we were also very sensitive about the historical representation. Part of that is that we knew that there are tons of gamers who are well-read in certain topics and love to pick apart game aspects of weaponry and history, but mostly we were adamant on presenting the era in a real-world-politic-neutral way while focusing on the fun of the adventure (of which there’s tons). This was certainly helped by Brandon Hodge (author of the adventure and the article) and Rob McCreary (developer of the adventure) both possessing history degrees.
So, yeah, we were certainly careful to approach the turmoil of the times in a neutral, historical way. The only exception to this is our depiction of Rasputin as a villain. That ship sailed in 1907 when he was thrust into the public eye after being invited into the Tsar’s palace and was depicted in an array of ways by the Russian people (here). Since then he’s been presented as a villain in various types of media .
This is one of the riskiest things we’ve done with the Adventure Paths, so I really hope it suits as many people as possible, and I think that we’ve treated the subject in a new and cool way.
Trust me, fun was always on the front burner for this one!
So, I am not all that well versed in history... witch world war is the title referencing? :P
okay, I will eventually buy every AP, I have all volumes except any with Reign of Winter. With no one in my game group interested in pathfinder I wasn't too quick to purchase this one. The idea for the AP seemed fun. When I saw this one I didn't think anything of the title or the art work. I didn't pay it much attention, I thought, "oh there is a guy named Rasputin", never read the synopsis. Now I realize it is THE Rasputin and the adventure is set in Russia! You people have guts. I have the pickiest, most jaded, hateful, group that criticizes everything. I can only imagine what most of them would say....BUT, I love it, I will buy this adventure first. Way to not conform and offer something completely different. Can't wait to get my hands on this.

That should read "magic and world-spanning technology" or something similar.

My group and I are REALLY anticipating this one, especially the Spellslinger. He's looking forward to the tech/weapons, while I'm interested in the setting and the historical aspects (ok, I'm looking forward to the tech and weapons too).
C'mon Daigle, give us a sneak peak! ;)

I know I can't. It's why I'm a subscriber :)

I am SO looking forward to this, I want my order expedited. ^______^
Hmm, new Occult oracle mystery, new fighter archetype, information on Civil War Russia, something on Szuriel (finally the Horsemen get some love in an AP article)... yeah, I'll be getting this one.

'Sentient Trench Mist'...
Oh nothing good can come of this.
giggles chitteringly off into the night.

Yar. It's been fixed. :D

Nothing good for the player characters, perhaps. ;)
I am making my obligatory appearance in this thread.
Its in my contract, "Must make a minimum of one appearance in any thread that announces a class feature involving the word, 'Occult.'"
Just doing my job.
That said, I know a bunch of people who are really looking forward to seeing how Paizo tackled WW1 Technology; this AP is probably going to be worth the $20 just for that article for us, personally.
I can hardly wait for this. I have enjoyed the ROW as a player.
I pity the poor soulless husks that can't appreciate how awesome this concept is. I haven't been this excited about an adventure path volume in a very long time. Kudos to Paizo for being willing to take this kind of risk.
I'll cross my fingers and toes hoping that the volume ships today.
