Creating an impromptu, original character every time the heroes enter a shop or chat with a local on the street can be a real challenge, but the Deck of Endless NPCs makes it as simple as drawing four cards from the deck. These cards combine to form a unique NPC, each with their own role, motivation, personality trait, and secret agenda! With over 100 million different combinations, you are sure to get an interesting new character to add to your story every time!

  • 104 NPC cards, plus 6 rules cards explaining how to use the deck.
  • The front of each card has a portrait of the NPC, featuring characters from dozens of ancestries and ethnicities.
  • The back of each card explains the character's role, goal, traits, and secret agenda, along with symbols to help determine some of the specific details.
  • Includes ancestries from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide, and the Lost Omens Character Guide.

Amazing

5/5

These are awesome. I was also sort of confused by the description before ordering but am so happy I pulled the trigger. I don't think I will use these much during live play but they are a fun tool for generating Golarion friendly (but not required) NPCs with some depth. There are certainly spreadsheet and similar options I could work with instead but the art on these is great and each NPC comes alive through the dynamic traits. These are a homerun product from Paizo, in my opinion.

Handy little accessory.

5/5

The idea behind the deck is really cool. This was one of those products that I didn't really understand by the description, but I'm glad I ordered them. Once I read the instructions, and carded my first npc, it's easy to understand. The artwork is great. I'm really excited to use this at the table. I hope they release expansions to allow for more npcs!

Will this have stats as well?

I assume so but I have to ask.

Good question. They do not include stats. These are good for role-play. I'd pair them with the Pathfinder NPC Battle Cards. Reskin the stats based on the unique NPC this new deck creates.

A blog post with a few examples of use would be awesome ;-)

I'm going to have to pass then, I hate card games and I'd rather not turn Pathfinder into a card game.

Ymmv but I personally have no interest in spending 50 dollars on two deck of cards.

Oh man. I am both interested in this and not.

Will there be an electronic version? Because that I would DEFINITELY buy.

I believe Paizo now does pdf versions of all such products.

I thought it was a silly take but it didn't really demand an argument so I just sort of glanced over it.

That said, I do think that mocking Paizo for charging $50 for "two decks of cards" ignores how much expertise goes into the art, writing and game design for those cards. It's not a deck of playing cards. You're buying a tiny book made of cardstock, and real work and labor went into making it. If you don't want it, but also don't want to discuss or argue the issue, the thread does not demand your input.

Like, I was on your side here, but then I thought about it and... I'm kind of not. Sorry. I thought your original reply to Aaron was sort of rude and unnecessary, and if anything, that "$25 for a deck of cards?!" attitude is a big part of what's wrong with the TTRPG industry today.

Yes, game design stuff costs more. It takes a lot of labor and expertise to produce, and Paizo is a small company. Small enough that the same people who worked on the card decks will probably see your post dismissing their work as "turning Pathfinder into a card game".

It's possible to express your opinion without couching it in insults and catty remarks.

Huh.

Will there be an app?

Are there four separate decks (role, motivation, personality trait, and secret agenda) that you pull four cards from or is it all that information in one card and you pick what you like from the four cards you pulled?

I’ll be creating a Google sheet to automate the process for my personal use (I’ve already mostly done that for the Hero Point deck). Does that count?

Yes and no. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the critical hit and fumble deck apps and I would LOVE to see one for this. A Google sheet would be the next best thing.

Err, I was just confused of how do aid cards turn game into card game and thought its not particularly new thing since they have been doing it since 3.5 ^_^; But yeah umm I'll avoid commenting on it further since I didn't want to annoy you

IIRC there were some people who were upset with the pathfinder card game and the (optional) cards for the pathfinder role-playing game existing simultaneously, being sold through the same site, or something like that. The pathfinder card game subforum went up not long after that and things calmed down considerably. But there will always be some people who look askance at a tabletop rpg getting into the card game arena due to poor experiences in the past.

Paizo does not create apps. Paizo seeks licensed partners whose expertise is creating apps. I'll mention this to the Licensing Director and he can talk to our existing partners. :)

This seems like a great question to pose to Digital Dragon Studios, this product seems utterly RIPE for a 1-tap NPC generation App using the card art and randomization to just instantly conjure up a disposable character with a fleshed-out description, especially as a one-off low-cost purchase.

does having the accessories subscription get me the digital version like the books do?

Edit: Also am I missing something? Why are some people calling this a card game?

Yes.

Right, it is a tool for making NPCs, not a standalone game.
