Lost on the Moonsea

Game Master Graynore

This is a solo campaign using the materials from the 3.5 Forgotten Realms book "Mysteries of the Moon Sea."

This is the thread for the Lost on the Moonsea game. Please do not post here unless you are an authorized player. Thank you for your consideration.

As you hang onto the drift wood in the cold water, your memory begins to return. You came to the Moonsea for adventuyre. You came for fame. You came for gold.

You should have known the price was too good to be true. The old boat seemed to be in good enough shape. The crew was either too old or too young. The captain had promised a quick ride into the north.

The passage was pleasant until the storm. It was a chilly summer night on the Moonsea, for even the summers do not have the heat of the south. The storm seemed to blow out of no where. By the time you made it above deck, the ship was already coming apart.

Now you drift in the chilly water with only your trousers to keep you warm. All of the gear that you had purchased is gone with the ship and probably your life.

It seems as if an eternity passes and the first pink rays of light begin to come over the horizen when a longship appears on the horizen.

State your actions. Equipment on your sheet will be obtained later. For now, all you have is pants on.

I take stock of what's around me, looking for anything floating near by, watching my back for predators or for sight of land. Start to swim towards what i hope to be shore and hope i dont freeze to death in the waters

As the longship pulls up along side you several men hall you into the boat like a wet log. As you cough and sputter, you take in your saviors. There are at least 20 of these short, hairy men. All are dressed in furs and have axes and short swords near by them. One large man with a blue pelt aroung his sholders turns to the other men and cries "Arun raun dean!" At that, the other men drop to their oars and begin rowing.

The man in the blue pelt takes a longer look at you and absently fingers his left ear. As he takes his hand away, he spits to the ground and turns to the far end of the boat shoating "Cullean! Amar russ mal vatik!" All of the rowers stop for a brief second before the blue pelted man glares at them. The rowers take back up their pace as the blue pelted man fingers the large axe at his belt.

Spoiler:
I basically make up gibberish when i'm talking in a language that you don't understand so don't worry about it.
The character looks good except for a couple of things: (1) you need to state what the bonuses are for your favored enimies and terrains, (2) as a half-elf you are also considered human so you can't have human as a favored enemy unless you are evil, (3) your CMB & CMD don't have a 2nd "attack", (4) for bonus feats please put some designation of where the sources of the bonus feat are from, i.e. feat(b-race), (5) you need to designate what skill you have skill focus in, (6) please complete your total skill bonuses just remember that if you have ranks in a class skill then you get a +3 bonus to it and there are no synenergy bonuses anymore, and (7) your perception score should be +17 [9 ranks +3 class skill +2 race +3 wis]

(ooh dwarves) i put my hands up to show him that i have nothing on me. try to find one who speaks english but if none answer up i'll slowly start to explain how i got to be here and that i'm not a threat "My name is Malyk, and was stranded at sea when my ship was destroyed in a storm..." try to seem passive and at there mercy (which i pretty much am) and try to get my bearings and figure out how far i may have drifted or if they are willing to pony up the info of my location

Actually, they're short human men not dwarves. I can see where the confusion came from.

As you sit there trying to explain your situation, a man in a black heavy cloak walks up. He is wearing fine clothes and carries a long sword on his belt. He looks at you and then at the man in the blue furs. "Asoon. Eak'rok moore valneen." He turns to you and says in Damaran, "Forgive my friends. They do not trust magic or those creatures of it."

The man in the black cloak extends his hand to help you up. "My name is Colin Blackcloak. The man in the blue furs is Blue Bear. He would be the captain of the ship."

As you take his hand a warm feeling shoots through your body. The cool summer wind melts away. You are still wet but at least you won't catch cold.

Colin says, "It is a pleasure to meet you Malyk. Tell me, from where do you travel? Where were you heading? Have you seen a tall damaran man by the name of Graynore?"

male half-elf ranger/9

I give him a warey look but say nothing of the odd warmth. "I was on my way across the moonsea. Im searching for random adventure. That seems like it may be a little difficult being nearly nude as i am. thats a bit of setback, loosing all my things. Have you any word about any of the other passengers of the ship I was on? And now what was that you asked? Have I come across a greynore? that's a little specific isnt it?"

"So you are a mercenary. That is good. This is a mercenary ship. I'm sorry to say that we know nothing of your ship. Our look out spotted you so we decided to pull you up." Colin pauses briefly and looks to the horizen. "Graynore is my cousin. We were seperated a little while back but I now not where he will turn up."

Colin begins to walk toward the forecastle and slows his pase so that you can catch up. "Truth be told, this sort of thing has happened before. When one of us turns up missing the best chance we have of finding eachother is on the Moon Sea. I'll spare you the details and just say that it is a sort of curse."

With a wave of his hand, a trunk appears out of thin air. "There isn't much here but you will find some miscelanious provisions along with some dry clothes. Take what you need. Since you don't have a destination in mind, I will drop you in Melvaunt, the City of Swords. It is not far from here and there is always work to be found. As a bonus, neither the Zhentarim or the High Blades of Mulmaster have a hold in the city."

Returning to the rail, Colin looks off into the horizen.

The gear in the chest is your starting gear. If you don't have any questions for Colin, then we'll move on.

male half-elf ranger/9

"that should be fine. the next step is always my destination. i'll keep an eye out for graynore, as i make my journeys. hopefully all is well for him and you" gather up my gear and prepare for land fall. help in any way i can with the sailing or what not till we get there to at least attempt to repay there kindness and for carrying me with

Roll a diplomacy check. Or an unskilled charisma check.

The voyage over the next few days is pleasent. There is not much to speak of. The crew keeps their distance from you. The cold shoulders are further compounded by the fact that they speak no language you know. The captain, Blue Bear, spits whenever your eyes meet. All in all, the travel is easy but the company is lacking.

On the morning of the third day, Colin Black Cloak wakes you and states that the boat has arrived in Melvaunt. After you grab your gear, Colin escorts you to the plank so that you can exit. The rest of the crew looks as if they plan on leaving ship as well until the look out exclaims, "Brusdack! Brusdack! BRUSDACK!" All eyes swing to the west as a fog begins to roll in against the advancing dawn.

Blue Bear shouts, "Marush grack effin molnack!" At his prompt, the entire crew drops their packs and begins hastily casting off. Colin rushes you down the plank as he keeps his eyes to the west and a firm grip on his sword. "Take care Malyk. There are dangers in some mists. If you see my cousin Graynore, please inform him that we will be searching the ports. If you look for honest work, go see a halfing in Breaker's Square named Blackalbuck. Tell him that I sent you. Now we must depart."

Without waiting for a word from you, Colin runs up the gangplank as the sailors begin to hall it onto the ship. Several lookers on stop to see what all of the comotion is about. The crew has oars to the waves within a minute and you can see Colin standing on the forecastle with a glowing orb in one hand and a staff in the other. The ship seems to take on supernatural speed as it races out of the port to the east.

As more people gather and begin to ponder what exactly the great rush is, you find it would be best to be away from there and begin moving into town.

state any actions you would like to perform and where you would like to go. You've never been to the city before. You do notice some runners lounging near the harbor master's office.

male half-elf ranger/9

I spend some time wandering around the town just getting the feel of the area, just random conversation in pubs and market areas and such. specificly asking about Colin Black Cloak and Graynore, see if I can learn anything about this odd pair. Than asking about what this "Brusdak" may be and why the dwsarves and Colin might have been scared of it. Then ask about Blackulbuck, trying to get some background on him before seeking him out. If everything seems legit, I'll seek out the halfling and get started on some hopefully paying adventure.Huzzah and all that

I need you to make three diplomacy checks: one for your interactions with the crew, two for your gather info on the general stuff on the town, and three for gather info on the brusdack.
Gather Information got folded into diplomacy in pathfinder.
To make the rolls, on the page where you type in the information, there is a "SHOW" button next to "BBCode tages you can use:". Hit the show button and it will give you the code to do the dice rolling and other functions.
ooc is for conversations like this. it stands for out of character.
bold and italics are self explanatory.
spoiler puts this in a hidden box that you have to select to open.
and dice is for rolling.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
there they are

You spend the morning bouncing between bars, messaging services, and other congressions of people to no avail. Maybe it was the lack of the shower, but no one wanted to give you the time of day. You do manage to worm out of one unfriendly fellow that brusdack means "mist" in Illuskan.

After spending some time walking around, you arrive at Blackalbuck's Swap Shop. There is a large bench area infront of the shop that you see a dwarven man begin to lay out items on. You see a small halfling male come out with an appron on. He stands there in his bare feet for a second whistling until he notices you. "Hello friend! My name is Ulblyn Blackalbuck. How can I help you today?"

male half-elf ranger/9

"hello sir Blackelbuck, I'm new to town and have heard you might have work for a wandering adventurer, your name had been given to me by colin blackcloak and he told me to seek you out. Have you work needing done?"

Ulblyn looks you up and down. "Well, I'm in the new and used merchandise business mostly. I've got help for any heavy lifting that I need. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Thank you for stopping though. Look around and see if anything touches your fancy." At that Ulblyn shakes your hand and you can feel a note in there.

After walking a discreat distance away, you look at the note. "Back door at 3 bells after dark."

What do you do?

male half-elf ranger/9

I waste time wandering around town until its time to meet up than i discreettly make my way to the back door

As you approach the back door, the door opens and you are greated by Ulblyn. He brings you inside and pours you a cup of tea before sitting down to talk business. "How is Colin? I heard a rumor about some longship that rushed out of port this morning. I assume that was him. How is Graynore doing? Ohh! Look at me wasting time. You seem like a pretty good chap and since Colin recommended you, I'll take a chance on ya.

There is a pub called The Devil's Fire Tavern. I've got a hunch that they're running illegal slaves out of there. The place is owned by a dispicable chap named Jaffe. I need you to get some information on the place. I need verification within the week. If there are slaves, then I need to know where they are being held. I'm a reasonable halfling, so I'll be willing to give compensation in the neighborhood of 600 crowns for verification of the slaves and their location.

I know this isn't the typical work of a new and used goods proprietor so I'd appreciate it if you kept this between you and me. Well? Do we have a deal?

male half-elf ranger/9

Start out by canvasing the town hitting other pubs and such asking about jaffe and the devils fire tavern. At first avoiding the tavern itself, hoping to not raise suspision. keeping conversation casual, no actual mention of slaves unless someone else brings it up

roll diplomacy (gather info)

male half-elf ranger/9

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

After spending sometime moving around town, you hear that the tavern was a recent acquisition and that it's a real dive bar. Corwyn seems to have a bad reputation and some speak like he might be into some illegal slavery. Not much else can be found out. The day starts to get long and night is approaching. What will our pointy earred hero do next????
