That was my goal: Secure the area, then hole up for the night.

Sigrun Barstad |

I'm just assuming Garran will heal us back up to full in the morning.

GM My Black Midnight |

overnight you will heal 2 hp each, unless someone is able to perform medical care for the group which will double it. for the rest you'll need to use spells and such to recover your HP

Linge Hagebak |

Linge could potentially perform medical care if she doesn't have to stay up all night for it. She would still need rest to get her spells back. Unless she can take turns with Garran?
On a side note, can Linge roll a Profession (herbalist) check to identify the oils?

GM My Black Midnight |

sure, you can try herbalism on it. it won't cover as many things as craft alchemy, but it is possible that i would determine that it was herbal in nature

Linge Hagebak |

Since Linge is also trained in Spellcraft, do I need to choose which skill to roll for the oils or roll both skills?

Paldo Greenspan |

Identify is actually normally a spellcraft check if it's magical. So roll that.

GM My Black Midnight |

spellcraft is usually the way to go. other options to ID are going to usually have a higher DC and are more of a backup if you have a party that is not good at spellcraft or if you have exceptionally bad rolls to ID soemthing

Garran Oakthorn |

We forgot, or just didn’t, look into the sick bandits. Maybe just as well, could be, they are contagious.

Paldo Greenspan |

Lol oh ya. We can bring them some food and medicine in our way back.

Garran Oakthorn |

So... Treasure. We picked up some jewelry from Lady Alice’s coach. I don’t know if we should really keep it. Probably belongs to her.
Then there was the MW longbow, and MW hand axe. And 20 sp. Just was wondering about treasure because I was thinking of changing to scale armor, and don’t have the coin right now.

Paldo Greenspan |

I don't need it. :) Feel free to sell it for your armor fund. Unless others are saving for something.

Linge Hagebak |

Linge is legally contracted by hippies druids to not use the hand axe :P Go for it!

Sigrun Barstad |

No use for those here as well.

GM My Black Midnight |

posting this on all of my PbP games:
the last month of the year is very busy for a lot of people with Christmas and vacations and all that goes with that. I will be traveling for the last couple weeks of the year, but will continue to post when possible.
expectations for the rest of the year will be much more relaxed. I will not bot anyone unless asked to, and will hold off on GM posts until everyone has been able to respond to the last post, unless it is a conversation where only a few PCs are asking questions to an NPC or something like that.
once we hit January I will start posting and checkin more regularly again and we can pick back up.

Unfortunately, the slow pace has made it so that I've lost interest in the game - it feels like it's been inching along for some time. Rather than play half-heartedly, I'd prefer to give up my spot at the table for another, more enthusiastic player. Thank you for your energies and time, and best of luck, everyone!

Awe too bad. Every game I am in certainly has a different pace.

Paldo Greenspan |

A friend of mine is interested in joining if we want. He was thinking a rouge or front line fighter type.

Paldo Greenspan |

Or a ranger. :) I told him to put something in the recruitment thread.

Linge Hagebak |

Sorry you've had to leave, Glim! Best of luck!
I think new players will always be welcome :)

Crossposting this in all my active games:
Sorry about being a bit inactive recently. Barring some last-minute change, I'm going to be starting a new job soon. I'd wanted to wait until all the details were officially confirmed to inform everyone, but things are starting to pick up again after the holidays and they've understandably been a bit slow about it, so I'm just posting now. I'd still like to continue on playing, but it'll be a big adjustment for me to make and I don't know how much time and energy I'll have. I'll probably continue being slow to respond for a few more weeks at least, so feel free to bot me if I'm holding things up or haven't posted for a while. I'll probably get back and make a final decision on whether or not I can continue on once I get settled down, we'll see. Hopefully that's okay, thanks.

I have been hounding my friend to make a character for this game. told him we could use a scout type class. Hopefully we see him soon enough.
Congrats Sig! New jobs are exciting. Good luck!

GM My Black Midnight |

As long as people are still interested in playing I will keep running things. It would definitely help things if we could get more consistent posting from everyone. Glim was not wrong, this game is creeping along at a very slow pace. it is taking days for everyone to reply to each GM post, and often those posts aren't moving the action along at all.
if a discussion needs ot be had about what to do with someone or where to go next, it would be ideal if that discussion could be handled in several days instead of two weeks of posting.
I have tried not to just force you along from one encounter to the next, but I am often just waiting for someone in the party to post something like "my character walks outside and heads towards the bridge". there's often a lot of discussion about what should be done, without people actually going and doing that thing.
If that style isn't what you guys want, let me know. if you want to focus on the high points and have me hand wave more of the details of getting from place to place i can do that.
with one person dropped and one person on slowdown for a few weeks, I need the other three of you to step up your posting or this campaign is going to die. if anyone else is not enjoying the game and wants to drop please speak up now.

Linge Hagebak |

Congrats for your new job, Sigrun! :D Best wishes, I hope it will go well!
I'm still in the game, although I'm sorry that I have been inactive recently. My parents split up, RL's been tough, and I've been feeling really down in the dumps and demotivated for the past few weeks. It coincided with all of my campaigns slowing down or screeching to a halt, so I didn't really know if I would stay on Paizo or not.
But I'm back, because it's silly to give up on the things that you enjoy :) I'm glad if we can speed up the game a little and make it more interesting, and bringing in a new player sounds great!!! I'll try to write more action-centered posts. Maybe we should decide of some kind of rule should we get stuck on the nitty-gritty once again. Since we tend to get stuck on dialogues, we could for example let the GM move the conversation forward even if only 1-2 players have posted in 24 hours, so that the game isn't significantly slowed down. What do you think?
I'm still in the game and I don't intend to drop it, but I still don't feel quite alright, and I apologize for not having been more upfront about it. As for my posting, it will remain somewhat hectic at the end of this week because I'm going back to the US this week-end (please bot me if needed!). But after the few days needed to settle down, I'm coming back to this campaign for good, and if I ever struggle again with motivation in the long run, I'll let you know :)

GM My Black Midnight |

Any prgress on getting a new player in? it would be good to add them before the party travels much further from civilization.
also, in reply to Sigrun's comments, yeah the first chapter of this AP is well known for being really difficult. lots of tough enemies, mostly because of the fey storylines. instead of fighting goblins and level 1 humans while you're getting your characters set up, you're thrown right in against creatures with flight, resistances, spell-like abilities and more.
getting to level 3 is hard in this AP. knowing that i try to tone things down from the written encounters, in addition to running 5-PC parties through this without adding any additional foes. even then, I have had a couple of PC deaths in the lodge, and had to pull some GM shenanigans to prevent a TPK at the end of level 2 for one of my tables.
Luckily the difficulty seems to go back to a reasonable level once you hit level 3.

Hey all, Paldo's Ranger friend finally making the scene! I've got the crunch completed here on this profile (basic human ranger) and I'll come up with a backstory soon. Let me know if this meets the approval of the group.

GM My Black Midnight |

Welcome to the game, Hal! glad to have another player in, and some much needed ranged combat ability. feel free to insert yourself into the story here. if you need some ideas for background:
this lodge was once controlled by a group of rangers called the High Sentinels. they were defeated by a band of raiders with the help of some fey allies, but it is possible that not all of them were killed in the skirmish. favored enemy fey might not make a ton of sense here, but maybe after the fey killed a lot of your allies you dedicated yourself to figuring out hwo to fight back
when the party cleared out the bandits from the lodge, there were some who were laid up sick during the fighting. it is possible that one of them has had a change of heart and decided to help the party rather than fight them after seeing how cruel the fey have been.
please take a look at the maps and info sheet linked in my header and at the top of the campaign. I leave it up to the group to make sure their stats are up to date here. this includes your perception bonus, HP, AC, saves and initiative. feel free to replace all of the lines that say "Glim" with your name and stats.
there are some others that look out of date. I think a few people forgot to update themselves after leveling up to 2.

Hal Taviskin |

I think the High Sentinel backstory makes sense, and gives some explanation for the fey favored enemy for Hal. I'll make that the basis of his background.
Edit: Just posted into combat.

GM My Black Midnight |

yes, I updated your current HP in the slides after the breath weapon attack. But i think several of you never updated your max HP when you leveled up

Linge Hagebak |

Oh yeah, I forgot to update my stats on the Google Drive! My bad! Just corrected it :)

GM My Black Midnight |

let's try to increase the posting rate here, folks. this is a good example of why some people have lost interest in this game because of the speed. this last round of combat took a week to do and still had one PC not post an action.... that is going to make this game take forever. if you are unable to post, please let us know so someone can bot you.

Linge Hagebak |

We've slowed down again. Let's maybe assume that we've all crossed the bridge and keep on from there?

Sigrun Barstad |

Quick update, I just finished my 2nd week (and got my first paycheck, yay) and while it's been tiring, I think (or perhaps hope) I'm getting used to it. I'll try to slowly return to being more active going forward, but there are still going to be late days where I get home and just want to crash, so don't expect too much just yet. I might end up having to drop a game or two to help out, we'll see.

Paldo Greenspan |

That's fine... as long as you drop other games and not this one. :P

Sigrun Barstad |

No promises, but I'm hopeful that I won't have to :)

Garran Oakthorn |

Hi GM. A question. So I know how to trigger a bear trap irl. Makes me assume it’s common knowledge. You use a long stick to trip the trigger plate. Anyway, Garran would want to trigger the traps so they wouldn’t hurt any passers by. Can he do it with a branch, or does he need disable device?

GM My Black Midnight |

you can do it with a stick. the rules i think probably require a disable device, but i think that's dumb

Paldo Greenspan |

That might be more for a trap that you want to walk over or through. Say a trap door in a hallway and such. Makes sense that you could trigger a trap if it won't harm you.

Garran Oakthorn |

Right, bear traps are dangerous if don’t know they are there. Covered with leaves, or snow. Or it’s dark.
