Very Pleased with this Rulebook

5/5

My game group REALLY did not want to make a switch to 4.0 (quite frankly, it sucks) but wanted to keep playing DnD in the same genre and feel it has had for the last 30 years. At the same time, 3.5 had become too big for its britches with all the expansions that often included an almost inherent ability for munchkins to min/max the joy right out of the game.

This rulebook does an excellent job of cleaning up some of the bad from 3.5 (i.e., the new CMB CMD stuff is GREAT), while keeping the feel of high adventure in a well-written rules system. Unless Paizo does something really weird with the game, my group will be investing in this system for many years to come.

Thanks for all your hard work on this.

Amazing RPG!

5/5

Definitely an notable game, and a delightfully fun activity. I've been playing for some time now, and it has certainly proved superior to both 3.5 and 4th edition. Plus, with over 500 pages, it is definitely a great deal! Most definitely worth the time and money!

Merry xmas Paizo!

5/5

A brilliant re-reading of the 3.5 rules, that made the game very exciting again for me and my players.

Meery xmas Paizo, you've earned yourself a customer and most important my respect for your dedication to the industry. Long live the new king!

This is my Core Rulebook. There are many like it but this one is mine. My Core Rulebook is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Core Rulebook is useless. Without my Core Rulebook I am useless. I must play my Core Rulebook true. I must play better than my enemy, who is trying to outplay me. I must outplay him before he outplays me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my Core Rulebook and myself are defenders of my game, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

I found mine waiting when I got home last night. I would have posted about it then, but I spent the evening flipping through this tome, admiring the detail and artwork, casually checking a rule here or a spell description there. Our group is still running through Shackled City so we'll be continuing with 3.5 for the near future, but our summer game has been using the Beta rules and we've all been enjoying them.

Congrats to everyone at Paizo for their amazing work! I'm sure all of us fans will be devouring this for the next few weeks! :)

Also, Bastards of Erebus looks pretty awesome too!! :)

And for what it's worth, my status still shows pending too.

Is it bad that I hope that I can't make her game?

You're a gammer AND your wife is a volleyball player? You truly are a man amoungst men.

I'm hoping thats the case. My mailman is pretty good about knocking on the door when he delivers the big packages... I've received none as of yet as far as I know.

I am in the same boat as you, Lokie.

Mine came yesterday. I made it well known that "if a big package arrives for me, I must be told. Period. End of story. Don't care if I'm in the bathroom, sleeping, or whatever. Let me know." Seconds later my mailman knocked after dropping off the mail, with a big parcel.

I've been spending the last 24 hours in random fits of glee.

This book is the ONLY reason I'm going to my first Gen Con this year, and now I'm paranoid/terrified I'm not going to get a copy! I'm signed up for the 8AM Pathfinder build/convert your character seminar, and I just KNOW I'm going to miss out on my copy of the rulebook! Arrrgh!!

Yet here it is less than 3 days till release and my book has not even shipped yet. It still says "pending" on my order.

Congrats for those who have their books already.

Consider yourself lucky. Mine not only doesn't show a status of shipping for the Core Rule Book (though my Adventure Path book does), it has even adjusted from an August ship to a September ship estimate.

I'm not sure what's up with that.

You might have had the issue I encountered. If you had no subscriptions yet, and you started a Pathfinder RPG subscription at the same time as an Adventure Path subscription with #25 as the first issue, then when you change it to 'ship with next adventure path' it set everything to wait for the September adventure path issue (#26, The Sixfold Trial).

Ouch... that would be a issue to bring up with customer service for sure. I feel for ya... but hopefully they can help you.

2 days remaining... Pending. Still within the "fastest" shipping time of "2 to 5 days". Here is hoping it goes out today and USPS doesn't fail me. I still have a chance of having my book on the 13th. My hopes will only really be crushed if I do not receive my book before next Tuesday. (Tuesdays are my groups game day... and I said we'd be swapping over to Pathfinder then.)

On the plus side... I can tide myself over by running my group into Thistletop tonight. (We only recently started Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings)

I'm still being patient. Mine shipped on Thursday so should arrive soon, but mail around here can be....erratic...at times. Still, 4 - 8 business days shipping time runs from tomorrow through next Monday.

The important thing is that it is on the way. That's all that matters to me. :)

Which means ... for me as a Floridian... It'll be available at 1pm.

As that is only two hours from my bedtime (I work a graveyard shift) I may just wait till sometime the next day.

I'm just happy the hard working little elves at paizo got my book shipped last night. (Around 2pm for them, 5pm for me.) Go book... fly!

The Core Rulebook has arrived in Germany. And two online stores seem already sold out on it.

Fortunately, I ordered my copy yesterday and today received shipping confirmation.

Can't wait!

Yea, as a New Yorker, I am Eastern Time also. However, my personal laptop is about 12 inches from my work one (same desk) so at 12:55 Eastern, I will be F5'ing till the files show up and then downloading!

They've said many times they will not release the numbers in the print run.

True.

It is safe to assume, however, from comments made by Paizo high ups such as Erik Mona, that the print run was at least 10,000.

I'm betting the total print run was somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000, maybe even with an upper max of 25,000 copies. It definitely sounds like it was higher than 10,000 though.

Does anyone know if the pdf will be a single file or a number of files?

Initial thoughts

superb

excellent value for money 5 stars

well laid out with a good index

There will be many weeks of dissecting the rules my initial thoughts about some of the changes just make me smile. They close some of the gaps that became more clearer as you played.

They have effectively made prestige classes worth having and not just flavor. My players now have something to strive for.

The subtle class changes look fun and combined with race changes give a whole host of exciting possibilities to explore.

As a group we do use all the rules this book i am pleased to see that the game has not been dumbed down in anyway its just been better explained and they have not been afraid to except feedback.

The great thing about this product is the play testing that has clearly happened on this product please do what you say you will do only release about three core books a year. Keep your standards high dont just produce splat books unless they add to what you have already started.

I would like to add one small change i think the changes between what people have been playing could have been highlighted in some way and maybe a small side not why the change was made. I can guess this but i have 25 years of experience some don't.

This book will keep me dming for another few years happily.

Anyway buy this book because its more d&d than d&d now thats funny.

I realize that you're doing the Gen-Con thing, but not everyone may realize that (don't as me how, but there's always SOMEONE). With that in mind, is there anyone camping outside the building? ;)
