Lol sorry, its difficult to convey complex arguments while in 95 traffic driving home. What I was disputing was that you couldn’t, honestly, simply point a finger at any particular group and label it without sense or reason. Reason and sense are strongly influenced by opinion; internal values, social norms and taboos just to name a few. Trying to scientifically factualize an “absolute sensibility” and thus discredit all other variations is impossible because it’s an abstract concept of self-identity.
For example:
* It’s been completely sensible for someone to commit suicide because they dishonored their family.
*It may be completely reasonable to you to slow down when merging onto the interstate whilst another may think speeding up to match the traffic makes just as much sense.
*It was completely reasonable for entire cultures to simply kill someone and take what they wanted.
I hope this better clarifies my initial argument.

While I don't disagree with the anti science sentiment because most right wingers are rooted in their religions, I think we can both agree the antireason, fact and sense rant tagged on the end is not only generalized but just as applicable to many of the more left wing backers too. For example many being anti death but pro abortion or pro womens rights while pro religious rights that are fanatically anti womens rights just to name a couple vague stances, neither extremes of left or right are perfect in any way tbo.

The problem is the right. They are anti science, anti reason, anti fact and anti sense. You cannot have a serious political discussion with someone about what should be when they can't figure out what is.

Their only goal is to hand people who hand them money goverment services and tax breaks while at the same time decrying the same happening to people who actually NEED government services.

"Give all the money and services to the rich" isn't a very popular platform so it has to be dressed up as "Freedom". Not everyone falls for that, so they have a coalition of racist demagogues, people that want their form of Christianity to be the de facto law of the land,

There is no leftist problem, the problem is that there is no left.

I could just as easily Google several political standings for the left that are anti many of those points you just stated so I can't exactly say I agree.

Gamers as a group also have high IQs...which I'm sure is nothing more than coincidental correlation. *cough*

Lol, that stereotype

causing dissention is always a blast, mischievous rogue pickpockets the barbarian and sleight of hands it in the wizards backpack, rips gas in a tavern and blames the druid, Dutch oven a party member while they're sleeping in a sleeping bag etc. lol not that I've ever done any of these things.

It would be a lie if I said I wasn't disappointed this has been such a civil discussion without any of the "nutters" from either side coming out of the woodworks to liven things up. Though I will say I've found it rather interesting there seems do be a much higher left wing demographic amongst gaming communities as a whole than right wing, Just from watching different forums and etc. I wonder why that is? I've received a call from my old buddy Yeenoghu recently, His buddies tried to hook him up on a blind date multiple times with Lamashtu but said someone called licensing keeps intervening to ruin it. Whats up with that? The poor guy sounds pretty upset over it.

I solve this problem by allowing non-Core races.

Maybe its my local community but it feels like in every Society game there's always at least one of them per party/game. Not saying its wrong but I'm just not a fan of it.

Yuan-ti were a favorite of mine back in 3.x, and I've been playing to make an alternative for my campaign setting for a while (I think I had some rough drafts on my old PC but they need to be re-written anyway).

Speaking of Harpies, I'm reminded of an encounter that Jeo had on an airship involving harpies that was very mean. Basically the ship was attacked by several harpies intending to crash it and see what goodies were onboard, and they were using their harpy songs to lure folks into walking off the deck of the airship. >_>

I had a player in the same campaign, much later, play a medusa very briefly. She was upset to find how gaze attacks worked, and I was surprised that given how long she had been playing AND the fact she was so adamant about playing a medusa, that at no point during creation did she actually read how her abilities worked. :|

Medusa's are perfect for the oldschool yaunti focused campaigns. I remember in 3.5 we had a FR setting going with an entire jungle of lizardmen tricked into worshipping a naga thinking it a relation to dragons or a quezcoatl. A yaunti blooded medusa was behind it all pulling strings for a hydra worshipping yaunti abomination cult, was a really fun campaign. Also I've never understood how they've added so many "untraditional" player races like tengu, kitsune and elementals just to name a few but they've never gone out of the way to make PC savage races in enough abundance for less civilized campaigns. I can totally get behind a ragtag band of goblins, orcs, bugbears, hobgobs and a gnoll/ogre for a pc campaign or a group of kobold, lizardfolk and the like pursing a plot involving their swamplands. Just seems more easy to implement or explain one of those random races in a normal party as opposed to a air elemental flowing through town lol.

Pardon my lack of reference material here but isn't there a legitimate improvised thrower? I seem to recall a variant that could effectively just pickup any nearby object and chuck said object fairly effectively?

Hard to say. I have a tendency to think of anything sentient as being potentially a player race with adequate homebrewing.

In my own campaign, the following are considered to be available as PC races without the need to think-tank with me on how it would be integrated into the campaign. Unfortunately I have to re-write some of them because the original files were on a now defunct computer.

Legend: * = modified from core rules, usually with a progression or in some cases revised racials (for example, gnolls were converted to a 1 HD humanoid race, their stats adjusted slightly, and given the scent special quality); ** = homebrew race.

1. All core races (humans, elves, etc), and the psionic races (half-giants, maenads, etc).
2. Hobgoblins and Goblins
3. Orcs
4. Several subraces (drow, nomadic elves**, wood elves**, etc)
5. Gnolls*
6. Lizardfolk*
7. Planetouched (aasimar, tieflings, etc)
8. Undead (ghouls*, lichlings**)
9. Constructs** (the mechanics)
10. Drider*
11. Changelings** (these are like lesser doppelgangers)
12. Doppelgangers* (note: nobody begins as a doppelganger but some changelings evolve into doppelgangers)
13. Merfolk
14. Starkin** (a race waging an eternal struggle against the neothelid menace).
14. Psychothelids** (a race of tentacle-faced amphibious humanoids created by aboleths and neothelids, who broke free from their masters)

Certain races require PCs to conceal their identities and/or deal with prejudice (ranging from poor attitudes to outright violence), though that's half the fun of playing those races. If you're going to play a tentacle-faced eldritch abomination, you probably expect to illicit some strange reactions when you walk into a stop & shop. In a similar fashion, being undead tends to at the very least make normal people afraid of you if they find...

I'm actually pretty satisfied I got this much out of that question lol. Now I just want to play in one of your campaigns. I've always enjoyed playing the more savage races instead of the typical LotR fleshbags.... I only seem to be able to incorporate the other races if Im the one running the campaign but sometimes I just want to sit back and play instead of DM. I've dabbled with ogre, minotaur, troll, boggard, yuanti, duerger, swivernbel, Griggs and harpy characters just to name a few as well.

I think the closest I'd be able to come is a fighter feats heavily on mobility, spring attack, weapons focus for swords/spears a throw feat or two in there. Spears are totally vorpal and bleed enhanced maybe? tbo its hard to tell cant find a lot of actual data on him. I feel like he should have a version of the dancing weapon spell too. What about Elle Ragu from Shadow Skill?

I'd love to see more flexible "half" templates not to mention more underwater/aquatic gameplay oriented releases. I feel that is a more often than not largely untouched portion of play in general. Also whatever happened to things like the fang dragons, horde scarabs and (Slann demons? not sure the name but there where different types for different colors similar to dragons, they looked like variations of pathfinders Hezrou demon). Perhaps I've missed them but I dont believe I've come across anything on those?

I have to agree, nobody likes feeling gimped before they even start playing.

Both are from way back in 3.0 but either my Gnoll gladiator Khang who eventually ended up inheriting the school he was sold to or my Goblin monk Frekk that grappled a minotaur bossfight to death amongst other supremely lucky shenanigans during his existence.

How about Geralt from the Witcher?

I think I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum here. I much prefer a good variant of a typically evil character as opposed to the stereotypical elf archer, dwarf fighter/paladin etc. Go play a Lotr pen&paper. I wanna be a damned kobold untouchable bloodrager who worships his resident bugbear hermit!

Vash would be a high level, Human Mysterious Stranger, Definitely with pistol specific feats. I'm honestly not sure how to go about replicating a cybernetic arm with multiple weapon qualities in pathfinder? maybe a cross class caster with the metal line of spells?

Is third party allowed?

Because a Jedi just screams to be built with the Dark Tempest prestige class from Ultimate Psionics. It gets you an energy blade plus psionic powers (which can easily be tailored towards telekinesis and precognition) and is pretty flexible overall. Race is the only sticking point for Yoda... you know what, I'm just going to say it: Goblin.

Lol, Goblin got a real chuckle out of me! We try to stay away from 3rd party and keep it as if we were going to use the character in society play tbo. I see where you were going with that though, it covers a lot of his aspects.

My friends and I often play this game where we evaluate an existing character from another source and try to translate/replicate it into a pathfinder character. Ill kick it off with Yoda from star wars. How would you best create him in pathfinder?? I hope this stirs up as much fun and creative discussion as it does for us!

I would recommend a level of martial artist. No alignment restriction, boosts damage to 1d6, and has other goodies.

Is there something im overlooking with the MA? The basic brawler comes 1d6 unarmed, seems a bit more versatile and BAB+1, MA comes BAB+0 the only downside im seeing is the brawler lacks the +2 will save and doesn't get the flurryoblows and stunning fist out the gate?

Hey again, after doing a fair amount of brainstorming, guidance here and digging on d20psfrd ive nailed down the character idea. Im hoping for help optimizing him for pathfinder society play. To sum it up,CN half orc focusing on unarmed/ natural wep for damage hopefully with competant grapple capability. Ive been examining druid-feralshifter,ranger-shapeshifter, hunter-feral hunter and brawler-strangler(which seems like a underpowered trap tbo). Ive avoided monk because of alignment restrictions. I really appreciate any and all guidance!

As for a grappling build, I'd still say go for an Abarent Bloodrager. The Bloody Knuckle Rowdy isn't the greatest archetype out there but it will get you what you need to be a solid grappler. IUS for free at level one, Monk fist damage at level 3. You give up a lot of it but that is improved grapple at level 1 and 10ft of reach at level 4.

For some reason I cant pull these up on my work computer. How would you compare the two?

ShroudedInLight wrote:

Riding is just easier than constantly fiddling your positioning around, especially since you get that delicious +1 to hit vs opponents smaller than your mount due to high ground.

Also enables glorious lance shenanigans, and in games where your GM doesn't let your AC and you move on the same initiative unless you are mounted then you lose half the benefit of the feat...going Mounted is just easier IMO.

Anyway, I did correct the notion on Pack Flanking in my post above. Just wanted to explain my reasoning for suggesting the mounted route.

I understand where your coming from on all accounts. I think I like the beast master esque idea but Im still conflicted with the idea of a standalone self-sufficient character I had in my head prior to the suggestion. I'll have to read more on the feral hunter to see if it closer fits the original concept I had in mind.

I posted extensively about Grappling here,

Advice for a Halfling Grappler

And what I said should be helpful for your Grapple build.

There I gave advice on how to use Grappling to Tie Up opponents. My advice there to use the Protector Familiar for Attacks of Opportunity was recently made obsolete by a recent FAQ.

Another use for Grappling is to boost Damage. If you wear Armor Spikes, every successful Grapple Attack also does damage, not a lot for starters, but since it is a separate attack, it also benefits from modifiers such as Strength bonuses, Power Attack, and Sneak Attack Damage. For a build like this Attacks with the Grab Ability such as Tentacles and Witches' White Hair are very nice. Any Piercing Weapon gets free Grapples if you have the Hamatula Strike Feat, and there are other ways.

After glancing over this "im still at work, don't tell anyone" It raised the question for me how does grappling interact with spells such as thorn skin etc? would I be able to do additional damage stacked with spiked armor and base grapple dmg etc? got my wheels turning in other directions now lol

Like I don't see how they don't have patience for an hour of reading but they do for an hour of basically the same thing.

Maybe its just my personal idea/concept of orcs but I can imagine them praying to a higher power for guidance or strength or what have you like a primal shaman etc but I don't especially see them as being highly literate, interested in reading/writing and thus having the patience to do it daily?

ShroudedInLight wrote:

Hey, if you've been out of the game for a couple years you might not know about the Advanced Class guide which has released a couple of really neat classes.

The Hunter is a combination of the Druid and the Ranger who specializes in buffs and fighting with their animal companion. It really fits your second option rather nicely, additionally as a singular class it doesn't suffer the penalties of multiclassing AND it gets both Druid and Ranger spells (at the lowest level the spell is available!).

For instance you could go half-orc, ride your horse, and wield a Greatsword:

Half Orc Hunter
1: Power Attack
2: Outflank
3: Combat Expertise, Pack Flanking

Pack Flanking is a new teamwork feat exclusive to the Hunter [due to prerequisites] that allows you to always be flanking as long as you are riding your AC. Combined with Level 2 outflank you'd have +4 to hit as long as you can squeeze your horse into areas.

As for the Monk/Oracle, that isn't a terribly good combination, but the Advanced Class Guide has you there too. The Bloodrager is a barbarian who gets magical powers and self-buffing spells. It can easily support a grapple build.

Give them a look, you can find them at: www.d20pfsrd.com

I've briefly glanced over them but I'll have to take a more in depth look at those classes. The hunter sounds like a lot of fun but I don't know how I feel about a mount based class knowing how much my local group likes dungeon delving.

I guess i ment more specifically the *sit down, stare at spellbook every morning* versions. It doesnt sit well imo a half orc combatant having patience for that routine daily lol

Hey all,
This is my first post on here so go easy on me. I've been out of the game for a couple years and looking to get back into it. I have 2 character ideas im struggling with currently.

#1 being a half orc monk/oracle. Im not set on the classes but the idea i had behind the character was a dominant grapple focused combatant with magical support either through buffs like DR and save boosts or touch spells thatd compliment his combat style like burning hands etc.

#2 being a half orc ranger/druid whose primary focuses are 2h melee combat with magical support to amplify survivability similar to above.

Im fairly set on the half orc template so anything thatd play to its strengths is a bonus. The only classes im confident i dont want to dip into are barb/pal/and *spell prep* casters.

Thanks in advance!
