She definitely doesn't want to fire into a crowd, especially an unarmed one, and hopes that they will agree to talk.

Zaeta goes to stand by the Lady Ensign, determined to keep her alive in the coming fight. If she died, that could be a large political problem. She then looks over to Cor, to see if there are any further instructions before they go in.

As soon as they reach the ship, Zaeta detours to her quarters and changes out of her formalwear into more comfortable cloth armor. She gets her accelerator rifle ready, as well as wearing her stunner, sword, and confiscated laser pistol, and a dagger in a boot sheath.

Instead of tackling a backlog of paperwork, she is confident that Cor will have something else for her to do, so she quickly returns, now heavily armed and much more comfortable, to the group, to find our what their orders are.

Just allergies I think, but normal allergy medication wasn't working. The swelling is down enough that I can see out of it now, but I still mostly look like I was punched in the face. :)

Posting this in all my games that have activity: won't be posting today because my right eye is swollen up so that I can only see a blur out of it, and even though I can still see and type, it's obnoxious and giving me a headache. Will be back when this goes away, hopefully tomorrow, and sincerely apologize for the absence.

Zaeta wants to go back to the ship because the group already busted through the barricade, plus she is tired and in formalwear and wants to change and get a more powerful gun if they are going to fight. However, orders are orders and she follows them, taking cover and waiting to see if the situation changes.

Looks like planetary forces fighting each other, and the government has it well in hand. No hostages or noncombatants to save that I can see... and they are headed towards the ship. Maybe we should go back and change?

Zaeta rounds up the people that didn't fit in the transport and they start walking.

Zaeta wishes the crewmember would have just brought some cutters to make an opening in the fence and not attract attention, but she follows Cor's instructions and chooses the weakest and slowest civilians to get ready to go in the transport when it gets here, comforting the others and telling them it will be okay.

Agreed, let's see if we can get someone to meet us at the fence, unless we know that the gate is in our hands. I don't want to get any civilians killed after all this effort trying to avoid a firefight.

Zaeta tells Cor about the culvert first, then gets the whole group out of the cars and together again explaining that they aren't going to be able to get past in the cars, but she sees a culvert that will get them through, but they are going to have to walk.

She explains specifically to the former hostages/party guests what they are going to have to do, and why, and that they need to move as quietly as possible in order to save their lives and get to safety.

Once she thinks that they understand, she signals Cor to lead out, and she takes up the rear again, helping to move any stragglers along, but also keeping a sharp eye out for danger.

Zaeta stops the last caravan car at Cor's command, then gats out with her confiscated laser pistol drawn.

She wonders if this barrier was intentionally left out of the Mnasippus' information. Could it be friendly, designed to protect the ships?

She looks around carefully, checking to see if this is an attempted ambush, or perhaps something they might be able to avoid/talk their way out of.

Zaeta makes sure the civilians are ready by assigning them cars and explaining the route in detail. She will bring up the rear of the caravan, making sure no one picks off any stragglers on the way.

... Or at least trying her best with the limited weapons that she was able to recover from the fallen at the party. She really wants to make it back to the ship so she can get her favorite high-powered rifle rather than one of these toy laser guns that the party crashers were using.

When everyone is rounded up and in the cars, she signals to Cor.

I think that you might be a little too optimistic about being able to sneak in, but if we call the ship and have them fighting on one side of the line and we take this side, hopefully that will be a good enough ambush to punch our way through. ... I mean, I hope you're right and we can get through without a fight, but I think we need to take all the weapons off the assailants here and be ready to use them all in the assault there.

Zaeta speaks up.

If we can get cars here, why not just shuttle the civilians to the ship? Easier to keep them safe there, even if we have to stay ground side. We might be able to get them in one trip if we use one of the cargo haulers, or if there is a troop shuttle. I don't remember the details of what types of ground cars we have... I mostly just use the cargo haulers.

We're just getting the civilians to a safer place, not putting them at risk. When the referee said that we didn't need to role-play it I took that to mean that we could hand wave getting them stable and safe so that we could go pursue more of the plot... namely at this point, clearing the building so there is no more threat to them.

Sounds like the plan is to get through the crisis before retreating to the ship. ...We get civilians to the basement, get them water, leave the Security Chief there to guard them (and with a way to contact us if we need to come back to help), and then as a party we start clearing the building? That sound correct to everyone?

Zaeta asks the civilian group if any of them are familiar with the building and if so, then she asks them if there is another room that might be safer to hole up than this one.

Not sure what is expected here.

We were going to let the former hostages go, but we heard other shooting in the building, so that seems like it was the wrong thing.

Then we explored the possibility of defending this room, but were told it wasn't really defensible (which makes sense with all the exits), so that seems like the wrong thing.

We also can't just leave the hostages here... that's just as bad as letting them go, especially with the room not being defensible.

And then we're asked if we are going to split the party like that is a bad thing as well...

I'm just not sure at this point what else we CAN do but split the party at least temporarily... someone needs to at least peek out and find a better place for the former hostages to be safe before we can go hunting or whatever else is expected here. I'll pursue that path in the game thread, but if we aren't doing something you need us to do, then please make it more clear.

About the rest of it though, I am role playing my character as I see fit, and that includes following orders because that is part of the game.

Cor ordered me to stay with the civilians, along with Frey. He is in charge. I am following orders.

I'm staying with you for now, along with our ship doctor, to make sure everyone is okay. The rest of my team is going out to try to neutralize the threat. I'm sure they'll contact me if they need help. Our goal is to keep you safe.

Zaeta nods at her orders and starts talking to the different groups of civilians, getting the wounded to Frey and then talking to the other calmly, trying to get them talking about their lives a little bit and get them distracted from the current stressful situation.

When I mentioned that I was looting the bodies earlier I also mentioned valuables, so if there were those sorts of things as well, it would be good to know.

From the gathered loot, Zaeta straps on some body armor and gets a melee weapon and a back up power pack. Then she joins Cor to support Lady Estrella.

I'm in. Should we report on the enemy comms device that we've secured this area and try to trick them, or just go out shooting?

Pretty sure Sundstrom went to a meeting in a totally different city, but up for a rescue if I am wrong, or if there are others to rescue.

Zaeta thinks it is a bad call to not let the panicked people out, but it isn't her call, and there could be danger outside as well for all she knows. She obeys orders and starts tying up the shooters that are still alive with strips from their own clothing, taking any leftover weapons and anything else valuable as she goes. It isn't stealing... just the price of being a murderous idiot.

Zaeta shoots the guy rolling around on the floor, and then opens the door so that the scared people can leave.

Hmm... Frey sees that all but one of the attackers are down and as a doctor he decides that it is time to tend to the wounded. He looks at the machine gun victims to see if any can be saved, and he jumps into action.

Zaeta steadies her hand and shoots again. Frey had been brilliant at getting everyone to hit the floor, but she still needed to get them out of this deathtrap.

Zaeta shoots at the same guy with her stunner, trying to clear the way so the crowd can exit:

But she is jostled by the crowd and her aim is totally off. She misses badly.

Oops. Thanks again. I said it wrong here, but it is correct on my sheet. :) He would have one more damage though, I think, because my Gun Combat skill applies to my stunner.

Okay, I applied the 1 to Gun Combat (laser) on my sheet. Thanks for the tips... hopefully my sheet is now covering which specialization in all of the skills rather than just some.

I was hoping the Stun trait would put him down because it applies directly to his endurance, but I guess he's a lot tougher and has better armor than I thought... and stunners aren't as effective as I had hoped.

Zaeta had been hoping they could prevent casualties, but when gunfire erupts around her, she decides that she has to try to get people out.

She calls upon her acting skills again, and pretending to panic, she scrambles across the floor trying to get out of the line of fire. She doesn't go towards the threat directly though, but instead scrambles over near one of the men pushing people to prevent them from leaving.

Stealth+Intellect: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 + 1 = 11

Once she is in range, and trying not to be obvious in the crowd, she pulls out her stunner and shoots him with it.

Stunner with Bane: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16 Minus 5=11, and if we add gun combat to that (not sure) it would be 12
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) = 9

If he goes down, she ducks down to get out of the way of the avalanche of people that will be headed for the exit. (She shouts "This way" if needed to get them moving out of danger.)

She then will attempt to set herself up to stun the next person that is preventing the exit of non combatants.

She hopes that creating a real exit and clearing the room will help Cor deal with the situation more effectively, and (not knowing that Frey is the one that started the fight) that it will allow Frey to get to the wounded without being trampled by panicked people.

Zaeta was not doing anything at all unless that roll meant that she was caught and someone approached her. She was still sitting on the floor, attempting to look submissive, as though she was going along with the captors.

Not looking good for the humble act. Probably she is easily recognized because she was waving to the cameras earlier. :)

Also note... Zaeta's comm is off, so she doesn't get Frey's message (and this is not the character that has a brain interface). However, she would probably see the flash of his laser fire, even if she is looking at the floor, trying to be inconspicuous. I feel like she would be able to react to that next round, but not this one.

Zaeta waves to the crowd, smiling and posing as asked. She feels fairly confident that her subdermal armor will protect her from most of what this tech level has to offer, so she doesn't tuck her head and hurry in or anything, but she does get in between the crowd and any of her friends if they seem worried or want to rush in... she's happy to be the distraction and take the unwanted limelight.

Zaeta wears a stunning evening dress and has her stunner in her clutch purse, which she keeps with her.

She sends a message out to the group, detailing what she has learned about the rebellion from listening outside the gate.

FYI, I am on Christmas break December 16-January 2. I might get on somewhere in there, but the likelihood is not high. I will have zillions of relatives here taking up all my availability. Apologies. Satisfied that her weapons aren't going to be taken away from her, Zaeta proceeds to the building where the party is to be held, waiting outside until the others arrive so that they can go in together.

While she waits, she relaxes with her datapad, looking at it, but actually listening intently for the bits of conversation she might overhear from others queuing to go into the event.

Greetings. A silly question, but what I prefer to ask to clear up doubts... In the second edition, does a creature whose damage adds a special attack like knock down or grab, do this automatically? In the previous edition, it had to perform the corresponding combat maneuver as a free action.

Greetings to the community. I'm starting with the second edition and there's something I don't quite understand. If you are immobilized or can't see the attacker, can you benefit from the armor proficiency bonus (including your level)? I don't see very logical that if you can't move freely you can take advantage of it.
