Hello, all! I am looking to start up a Starfinder PbP game. After looking through Live Free or Die I decided it would be perfect for a PbP game.

This will be played on a *small* discord server setup by a fellow player. There are a few other games going on there. We use Rod Bot for our rolls and aliases, so if you're unfamiliar, you may want to check out the Commands. We will help everyone understand how to use it.

This is a server with other people and we’re LGBTQ+ friendly and don’t tolerate sexism, racism, and the works. If you can’t get away with it on Paizo forums, you can’t get away with it on the server. Each PbP has its own separate channel for the groups to talk shop as well as a General chat if you want to shoot the breeze.

Onto the juicy stuff.

Traders, Smugglers, Businessman trying to survive in The Vast

This Adventure Path takes a crew of 4 scoundrels, rogues, and misfits trying to survive in a galaxy where everyone has a price. This isn't the adventure to save the galaxy. You have to work for a living. Honestly, you would never call yourself heroes, and your integrity will be constantly tested. This story is the story of a starship crew going from rags to riches.. but then to ruin and revenge.

One big note here. I hate the Starship combat rules.. So I will be going with the alternative rules described here. These rules should lean out the process of starship combat play. I think it will work well with PbP too. Feel free to read through these rules if you want, but we can also go over it when needed. the tl;dr of the rules are: Easing the order of play. Making some abilities more flexable to open up more character ideas. You wont need to stick with rigid character builds to also be viable in starship combat. (all good things)

Must read: Players Guide

Application Information:

Character Name: A Must have.
Theme: Please pick one of the ones listed in the Players guide. If none fit, please work with me on another to make it work.
Background: While not intended to replace your entire backstory, every character will need to pick one of these from the players guide. The tricky thing is each character will need a different one. So have an idea of one or a few that could work. We will finalize these after Characters are picked.
Alignment: Pretty flexible. But you must work with your crew. Your shipmates might be coworkers, friends, or even family. Loyal to your ship and wanting to survive. Please read the Alignment section of the players guide for more info. I would like to avoid any Jane almost getting spaced by Mal (Firefly reference) incidents.
Race: All Paizo Races are allowed. Just be aware of the history of that race. The ones that live in Azlanti space might be harder to explain, etc.
Class: All Paizo Classes are allowed. Including the newest ones. I will allow playtest as well, as long as you convert to normal after release.
Equipment: Most are going to be available, but please go with the Company Catalog first.
Biography: [b] Include a short bio on your character. Something short and sweet.
[b]Personality:
Describe what your personality is like. How would you act in situations described in the Players Guide.

Other stuff worth knowing:

We will be using Hephaistos (or any other shareable character sheet). So I can see your characters. This will also be useful so other players have some idea of what others are ok at. Though I would like to keep that mostly in character.
I will be rolling Initiatives and likely Saving Throws, to speed things up.
I hope to have posts at least 5 times a week. Things sometimes slow down over the weekend. I understand life gets in the way. If there is combat I will give 72 hours before I bot you to the best of my ability.
I have found it is a bit easier to get a post in via discord then signing into the forum. It becomes doable from from more places (like the phone). Also Hephaistos works well on the phone as well.
I will likely be posting grid based maps. So you will have a picture of the current map and be able to say you move to A4, "I shoot target #4 in square G6", or "My cone will cover squares A1, A2, A3, B2, B3, and C2", etc. I might change this options, but I want it to be doable by everyone, very easy without needing any detailed system like Roll20 that you have to boot up on a computer.
We will be using someone else's discord server. So there might be a few delays as I get set up in their environment.
I will want to track Batteries in this game. In Pathfinder I usually hand wave arrows, but I want to stick to the battery usage here. So please help by describing reloading or whatever is needed.
I will be doing milestone leveling. I think it works better than XP in prewritten adventures. It allows for more open play, vs "um lets kill more rats to level".
There will be a lot of downtime in the drift. There are downtime actives, but be prepared to chat to eachother and RP days of travel. Going to attempt to make it not boring, but space truckn is only so exciting. Having people to talk to is going to be the name of the game.

This AP has a pretty detailed subsystem about trading and moving cargo. Please also let me know if you are willing to either be primary on data tracking of that, or being willing to help. There will be a decent amount of bookkeeping in this AP. There will of course be combat, but the sandbox trading sim aspect of this AP will be strong. Please be willing to partake in that. Even if its just Role Playing finding a supplier of cows and transporting it to another system to sell. Being willing to do this will bring a lot more joy with this Adventure Path.

I am hoping to find a group of 4 players who are willing to partake in this fun Firefly, Elite Dangerous, Eve Online (MS Excel edition) adventure. Since this application is a bit long I want to give people time to build character concepts, ask questions, and get a feel for everything. The deadline for characters is Friday October 1st, midnight pst (Pacific Standard Time).

Feel free to ask any questions you have!

Hello all! Wanted to get everyone dotted in then we can verify characters and backgrounds. Then get started.

A few quetions issues I saw.

1. Beryl Brighthammer - I am not sure what background you picked. I could not find it.
2. Vrolun and Kana - you are both using PFS characters. Do you need to make normal aliases?
3. Bertrum - Your Anathema includes not wanting to call civilization a permanent home. One of the big parts of the game is getting a castle and setting up long term home. We can figure it out, but I just want to make sure you are aware (its in the Players guide). You can totally live outside or wahtever.. Just heads up.

Once everyone dots in I will collect a bit more info then we can start!

The town of Breachill. Located at the foothills of the Five Kings Mountains in eastern Isger.

Today is the monthly Call for Heroes. Every month people petition for assistance for a variety of things. From missing shipments, to a mysterious herd of goats killed in the night.

The Call for Heroes is to take place in 2 hours, at noon, at the Breakhill Town Council, so for now all prospective Heroes meet up in a local tavern, the Wizard's Grace. It is a bit of a local tradition to meet there before hand. Some hold toasts of good fortune, some schooze with townsolk hoping to get hired, and some are scoping out who they might be working with.. or against in upcoming jobs.

The Wizard's Grace, close to the Town hall. The tavern is a bit busy, though there seems to be only 5 potential heroes this time. Drinks and food are being served. The food option this year is the Boar Stew with Lentils. Another little tradition from the owner Trinil Uskwold.

Please go around describing your characters in the tavern.

Hello Pathfinders!

I have been itching to start up a new game recently. I decided to give Pathfinder 2 a shot. I know I have a lot to learn about the new system, but it excites me and I am ready to learn. One of the best places is here on a Play By Post Game. So if anyone is willing to learn along with me read on!

Pathfinder 2 - Age of Ashes AP!

The Specifics:

We will be starting at level one, and doing Milestone Leveling.

Races: All Paizo Pf2 Races are up for grabs.

Classes: All Paizo Pf2 Classes are up for grabs.

Backgrounds: I would like you to pick one from the Players guide for the AP. If you want to go with another one, please explain how you connect in with the story. More details in the Champaign Info Spoiler tag.

Alignment: I would prefer a Good Aligned Character. I mostly just want everyone to be willing to work on the common goal. I am up for other alignments, but the deepest motivation should be working together.

All other main factors are taken into account by the system. But let me know if you have any questions!

What you should know:

I going to push for at least a post every day. I am hoping you can follow suit. If you are going to be gone for any length of time please let me know so I can bot you.

That being said, I have my moments and occasionally take a few days to post. I am going to blame my toddler and weird work schedule. I will always let you know if something comes up for more than a few days. I am in this for the long haul.

I will likely be using roll20 for maps, though I might be moving to google sheets.

Roleplay is going to be more of a priority than combat, but I want to try to make combat follow the rules as much as possible.
My deciding factor on picking characters will be mostly made on characters with personality. I also prefer characters with flaws that are not mix-maxed like crazy. I want everyone to be functional, but also have their own limitations.
No need to over build a backstory, just something that gives you a reason to be there, and a bit of personality.

Campaign Info:

This game has a very nice Players Guide. I hope all players will read through it, using it to help decide their characters and build.

That being said, the current TL;DR version of the Players guide:
Your character should be in the town of Breachill. Either as a citizen or visitors. There will be a decent amount of traveling, but be ready to make Breachill your own.

Everything else we will build up together!

I am going to keep the recruitment thread open till June 26th. Gives everyone a bit over a week to get everything in. Also gives me a bit of a deadline to read the book.

Let me know if you have any questions! Excited to see what people com up with.

I am GMing a Dead Suns Starfinder game. We are in the beginning of book 2 of the AP. (level 3)

One of my players had to leave the game and we are looking for a replacement.

In a perfect world, we would find someone who would be willing to pick up the exact same character. She was a Lashunta Envoy Character Profile.

Though I would be totally willing to allow any other character ideas. Ideally they would fit the "captain" role with higher charisma. That does not need to be a Envoy, either. I am up for creative character builds if you want.

If you wanted to make your own character follow these guidelines:
Any Paizo Race is allowed
Standard Point buy, and credits per level
All Paizo Classes. I am ok using the play tested ones too, though if there are any changes once the Operations Manual comes out I would want those changes applied to the character.

Storywise, the player needs to be on Castrovel. And is going to be asked to join in with the group.

Again, in a perfect world I would want someone to take over the same character that is leaving. I try to post about 4-7 times a week. I shoot for at least once a day, but stuff happens. I am pretty flexable, but I would want someone to try for that schedule.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Edit:
I will leave this recruitment open for a week (closing Monday the 22nd). I am going to be away over the weekend without internet, so no real reason to end till I am back anyway.

Create a message here to connect your alias to the game.

And we start

For the last 24 hours or so I have noticed none of my RSS feeds have updated for my threads.

I use this to keep track of my PbP games. Just wanted to bring this to people's attention.

Thanks!

Our GM had to drop out and I picked up the reigns. One of our players also had to back out as well. We are about 3/4 through the first book.

We are looking for 2 players to fill those slots. You will be replacing a Bladebound Magus and an Occultist.

You do not need to match those characters perfectly. But having someone with some divine/healing potential would fit the game pretty well. The remaining characters are Barbarian/Oracle, Synthesist Unchained Summoner, and Gunslinger (with some variant multiclassing planned).

Character Guidelines:

• Level 3. We are not doing Xp, I just let you know when you should level.
• Races: All Paizo races are ok. The "weirder" ones should be approved.
• Classes: Any class created by Paizo with the correct errata.
• Alignment: For ease, try to shoot for Good. You want to do good by people and help out.
• Abilities: 20 point buy. Please no stat lower than 8.
• Feats: Any feat created by Paizo with correct errata.
• Skills: We will be using the Background Skill system.
• Traits: Characters will start with two traits. One must be a campaign trait listed below. The other one better have a good narrative reason why you have it. Also, you may take a third trait if you take a drawback as well, but please choose a drawback that you think will actually matter.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level. After 1st level characters will take the average each level.
• Starting Gold: Average gold for level 3: 3,000gp. Don't go spending it all in one place.
• I retain the ability to ask you to change something if I find it would upset game balance a bit too much.
• Unchained options are allowed, but you must fully commit. Meaning, you cannot choose the unchained version of a barbarian but choose the non-unchained version of one of his rage powers.

Campaign Traits:

Against the Technic League: Although the Black Sovereign rules Numeria in name, it’s the spellcasters of the Technic League who hold the real power. While their influence is certainly strongest in the capital of Starfall, their touch can be felt even here in Torch—the League takes a significant cut of the town’s income as tithes every month. For some reason, you have a grudge against the Technic League. Perhaps your parents lost their jobs as the result of an act they took that displeased the League—you might even suspect the League was responsible for their deaths. Alternatively, you could just rankle at the League’s open acceptance of slavery, their reputation for sadism and cruelty, or their penchant for hoarding and controlling technological wonders. Talk to your GM to refine the reasons why you hate the Technic League, but you’re convinced that they are somehow responsible for putting out the town’s torch and that evidence of their tampering can be found in the caverns below—if you can find evidence of the Technic League working against Torch’s better interests, that could well be a step toward the town’s independence from the League. Choose either weapons or spells. If you choose weapons, you gain a +2 trait bonus on all damage rolls made against targets you know are associated with the Technic League. If you choose spells, increase the save DC of your spells by 1 when you target such a foe.
Local Ties: You have ties to a prominent local in the town of Torch—the missing wizard Khonnir Baine. If you’re a wizard, alchemist, or other scholarly type, he may have
been your tutor or teacher. If you’re of a more martial bent, Khonnir could instead have been a friend or business associate of your mother, father, or patron. He may even have been your adoptive father, in which case you likely have a bond of friendship or rivalry with his adopted daughter Val (your GM has more information on her in this case if you wish to know more for your character’s background). Your association with Khonnir has given you insight into how technology works. Choose Disable Device or Knowledge (engineering). You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks with this skill, and it is a class skill for you. In addition, you are treated as if you possessed the Technologist feat for the purposes of resolving checks associated with that skill. If you gain the Technologist feat, your trait bonus for the selected skill increases to +3.

Numerian Archaeologist: Numeria is a land ripe for archaeological exploration, since so many of the strange technological dungeons have been either avoided by the superstitious barbarian tribes or have been locked down by the Technic League, leaving many of them untouched and ripe for exploration. You’ve studied the strange language associated with these eerie technological ruins, and are eager to start exploring them—you suspect that Torch’s namesake is in fact part of a larger buried ruin, and you hope to enter these ruins and learn their original purpose by exploring the caves below town. You gain Androffan as an additional language. In addition, you possess a knack for technological items; when you use a timeworn technological item, roll twice when determining any glitches the item might cause and choose which result to use as your actual result. Talk to your GM for more information about resolving glitches.

Robot Slayer: The strange automatons that plague the wilds of Numeria are a blight upon the world, and the idea that there could be countless more of these creatures lying in wait in the unknown ruins scattered throughout the region chills your blood. Khonnir’s recovery of a deactivated robot from the caves below Torch worries you—not only could that thing wake up and run amok in town, but there may well be more lurking below! You want to explore the caves under Torch to determine if there is indeed a lurking robot threat below town. You gain a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls against robots and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by robots.

Skymetal Smith: The fires atop Torch Hill have long been a boon to smiths and metalworkers, and your family is no exception. Whether you grew up in Torch or simply made several trips here with your parents to use the fire, this was to be your first time to use the torch for your own project. You managed to use the fires to craft a small weapon or piece of armor from skymetal, but not long thereafter the fires went out. The violet flames are as much a part of your upbringing as anything else, and their loss distresses you; you hope to find a way to rekindle the torch below the hill. You’ve long hoped to work with skymetal, and begin the game with a small metal bauble made of the skymetal of your choice—you made this item yourself. The item is nothing more than a valuable art object worth 100 gp. You can sell it to gain an additional 100 gp when creating your character, but if you keep it, your pride in its crafting grants you a +2 trait bonus on Will saving throws made against emotion and fear effects. You lose this bonus if you willingly sell or give up the item, but if it is destroyed or lost through no fault of your own, you retain a +1 trait bonus on such Will saves.

Stargazer: They say the strange technological ruins scattered throughout Numeria came from the skies several thousand years ago. The concept of life on other planets far beyond Golarion has always fascinated you, and you’ve long hoped to learn more about what life on those other planets
may have been like. You’ve heard stories about the strange alien creatures found in Numerian dungeons and hope to learn all you can about them—perhaps some of these aliens can be found in the caverns below Torch! You gain a +2 trait bonus on Knowledge checks to identify alien monsters’ abilities and weaknesses. In addition, you gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (geography) checks, and this skill is a class skill for you. You are treated as if you possessed the Technologist feat for the purposes of resolving checks to identify an alien creature using a Knowledge skill and for all Knowledge (geography) checks. If you already possess the Technologist feat, then your trait bonus on Knowledge (geography) checks increases to +3.

Things you should know:

• I try to get 3-4 posts a week. Some days I do multiple, when I can. Not quite every day, but no huge breaks. I will bot if, during combat, you are MIA for 3 days.
• I will be using Roll20 for combat. Please be ok with using this for tactical combat.
• I try to balance RP and combat. I try to leave openings for RPing. Feel free to really flesh out the RP as much as you want. Inner dialog.. Group chat. etc. Always good!
• Please come up with a real character. Something with a fun personality, backstory, and modivation.
• An Alias does not need to be created, but I want to see all the stats and backstory.
• 1 submission per person please.

Things to get selected:

• Keep min-maxing to a minimum-moderate level. At least come up with background reasons for choices if they are a bit above the power curve.
• A easy to read character sheet!
• A good Backstory, Personality, modivations. Reading the Players Guide for Iron Gods and using that as a basis is always good. (Free to download). A backstory in Numera or near there. In world lore is a way to get to my cold heart.
• Don't go crazy.. a few paragraphs is good, but 5 pages might be too much

Iron God's Specific F.A.Q:

Can I play a member of the technic league, or at least join them at some point?
No, at least not a current member or aspiring one. The most I'll let you get away with is you used to be a minor grunt and were ousted for some reason Whatever the case, the Technic Leauge is not your friend and your contact might have only been in name only with no real information on them.
Are crafting skills any use? Especially Craft(Mechanical)?
Yes! In fact, There are definite periods of time where you can choose how to invest your time, so taking some time to work on your craft is okay. Plus, there's going to be a lot of mechanical things in this AP.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have! Recruitment will end January 18th. Thanks!

Gameplay thread

Welcome to my doomsday Dawn game! I decided to go with a paizo "traditional" group. Wizard, Rogue, Fighter, and cleric. I think it will be interesting to play through this with those options.

Again, these modules will require making new characters often. There are 7 modules in total. Modules 1, 4, and 7 will use the characters you submitted. 2,3,5, and 6 will have their own unique characters.

During a switch to a new module we can bring drop and bring in new people if someone drops out, or whatever. Either way we are all going to get used to creating characters. Your "main Hero" will level up between modules 1, 4, and 7. So we should get a giant range of levels.

This is going to be interesting!

So really fast, I would like everyone to add this to their character's profile:
Replace all { and } with [ and ]
Under Race: race {spoiler=Ongoing Conditions}
{spoiler=Daily Uses} Resonance: 5/5 Any other resource you have here.
Under Class/Level: Class/level | HP: 13/17 | AC: 14 TAC: 11 | Fort: +5, Ref: +1, Will: +3 (+2 anything) | Init: +1, Perception: +5 (Darkvision 60ft) | Spell DC (if you have one)

This should help keep everyone on the same page. I might ask to add things as we go if there are resources I need to track better. Also spell casters and stuff, just track your spells in your profile. Marking when a spell is used. This all does not need to be perfect, but I think it will help move along.

I plan on rolling for Saves, and init for everyone, to speed up the process. Because Init is different in this game, I might have to change that around, but we will see.

This is an adventure for everyone! If I do anything wrong, please let me know, and I will do the same. No hard feelings or frustrations here, just learning and having fun. If you have any issues please let me know.

Note: I will be using roll20 for maps, but also posting a picture on my website for this game of the current map. You will see what I mean as we go. If for some reason you are not able to sign into roll20, just look at the picture and tell me where I should move your token. I prefer signing into roll20, but I would rather give options.

Once everyone is here, we can jump in and get started. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Well I am diving into Pathfinder Playtest! Lets give it a shot.

I plan on running the Doomsday dawn modules back to back, hopefully with the same characters as we move along.

I know one of the things they want us to do is fill out a Tracking sheet, which might be difficult to do playing PbP, but I figure the more people playing the better. Plus testing it in a PbP format, is another way to test it out!

What I am looking for:

 • 1. 4 Players built from the Playtest rules
 • 2. Ability to post at least once a day from everyone. This is not a super strict rule, but I want to keep it from grinding to a halt. If you need to take a day or two off just let us know, and its fine. But 48 hours without notice means Botting. If we finish a module with someone gone, I will replace them for the next one.
 • 3. All Playtest rules are good. No trying to stretch it out too much.
 • 4. I am going to stumble along as we go, so we can all learn together!
 • 5. Though not required. I would love people who know a decent amount about Golarion and it's story. I am missing a ton, but I think it will add to it.
 • 6. A few of the adventures in Doomsday Dawn will require making new characters. But this first character you make will be the "main" characters of the overall story. We will make new characters when we reach that point.
 • 7. I would like to try following all the rules. Even ones that feel weird as we start.
 • 8. I will leave recruitment open till August 9th Morning (PST). If we don't have a group by then I will extend it.
 • 9. In your submission please state what your favorite Adventure Path was. If you have never played any of them, just say that. Just curious who reads all the rules.
 • 10. I think I plan on using Roll20 for maps. So please be able to access this. This does kinda hinter mobile players a bit. If we have someone who can't access roll20 I will post current map pictures, they can click on.
 • 11. Please include a bit of background. No major backstory needed, just something to flesh out who you are. Maybe a paragraph or two?

Character build info
For this first adventure you must pick from the following Backgrounds

Budding Osirionologist:

The secrets buried in the seemingly endless sands of the nation of Osiron have long intrigued you, even though you've never actually visted the nation. Some day, you hope to correct that.
Choose 2 ability boosts. One must be to Dexterity or Int, and one is a free Ability boost.
You gain the Terrain Stalker (rubble) feat, and you've trained in the Ancient Osirion Lore skill

Osoteric Scion:

One of your family members belongs to a semisecret society called the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye. You’ve long held an interest in perhaps some day joining the order and have studied strange topics in preparation for that day.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Intelligence or Wisdom, and one is a free ability boost.
You gain the Quick Identification feat, and you’re trained in the Esoteric Order Lore skill.

Family Friend:

Your family has been friends with the Deverins of Magnimar for a generation, and you’ve grown accustomed to hobnobbing with the aristocracy even if you have little or no interest in such matters.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Charisma or Intelligence, and one is a free ability boost.
You gain the Hobnobber feat, and you’re trained in the Nobility Lore skill.

Goblin Renegade:

You had been working with a gang of goblin burglars, but that new leader was no good. It took a lot of guts to stand up to him, but you survived! Now you’re stuck with the longshanks, but maybe you can get back at the old boss.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Dexterity or Charisma, and one is a free ability boost.
You gain the Quick Repair feat, and you’re trained in the Criminal Lore skill.

Mind Quake Survivor:

As a child, you once woke from a particularly harrowing nightmare, and this nightmare has plagued you ever since. You’ve had strange thoughts and knowledge that you always felt weren’t truly your own.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Constitution or Wisdom, and one is a free ability boost.
You gain the Dubious Knowledge feat, and you’re trained in the Dominion of the Black Lore skill.

Pathfinder Hopeful:

You’ve long wanted to join the adventurous Pathfinder Society, a world-spanning organization of relic hunters. This aspiration has led you to take up the dangerous life of an adventurer eager to make a name for yourself and gain the attention of the Pathfinder Society.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Strength or Intelligence, and one is a free ability boost.
You gain the Additional Lore feat, and you’re trained in the Pathfinder Society Lore skill.

Things you should know:
The first adventure takes place in 4707 in Magnimar. Just before events of Rise of the Runelords starts. So knowledge of Thassilon is still very obscure. Osirion's ruins are also only recently opened. The Aucturn Enigma has not yet been rediscovered.

About me:
I have seen another gm describe their style via alignment. I would say I am a NG GM. I am going to try to shoot for LG for this game, following the rules a bit harder. But I usually side on the side of players.

I am able to post pretty often, but I have a crazy life with a 11 month old baby, so I might miss a day here or there. I will try to avoid this though. Please be patient with me!

Let me know if you have any questions!

I need to cancel my Preorder of the Playtest. Some expenses are coming up, and I am going to have to deal with the PDF for this test.

When I click on the order it says "Click here to change your preorder items, shipping details or payment information." Though there is no hyperlink at all to do any change.

Might just be a bug of some kind. Anyway. I need to fully cancel that order.

I did email this in, over the weekend, but I figured I would cover my bases and post here.

Thanks! Keep up the good work everyone at Paizo!

Hello all!

I have been running a Dead Suns game here on the forums and I am looking to replace one of the players who has gone missing.

We lost a Exocortex Mechanic. Another Mechanic would be great, but I am not going to limit you too much.

The current characters are:
Star Shaman Mystic - Halfling
Technomancer - Android
Soldier - Human
Envoy - Lashunta

So preferably a mechanic of some kind, but I wont stop other submissions.

Rules of the game:
1. About 1 post a day. Don't need to be perfect, but really try for at least 1 a day.
2. Ability and access to Roll20. I use Roll20 for maps, so I need everyone to have reliable access to Roll20 for the maps.
3. We are level 2 at this point (just got to level 2). Please use starting credits (1000), and we will work on splitting the loot up to boost you into level 2 area.
4. Any Core or Legacy Races are fine. Alien Archive is ok too, as long as they are semi normal. I will let you know if the race choice is not great.

Feel free to ask any question!

I will be accepting submissions till Friday then I will pick someone. Thanks all!

Over the last few days the RSS feeds on the various pages stopped working. Each one now just shows:

Quote:
The requested application was not found on this server.

I use feeder to notify me when there is a post on any of my games, now none of them are getting notifications. The issue seems to be the same for all of my games and all the different threads.

I didn't see any other posts about this, so I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Opening discussion!

Hello all. I have been testing the waters with DMing a game here, and it's going well. So I wanted to start up another game. I have been very excited about the Starfinder system and the AP does seem very fun. I am looking for 4-6 players to join up and do this AP. It's a pretty long commitment, but I am hoping we find a good group to really keep it going.

About myself: I have been playing (mostly DMing) table top for only about 2 years. I might be a bit fresh behind the ears, but I feel like I am decently competent when it comes to rules. I do lack some of the role play skills that I have seen around on the PbP games. So I am looking to get better at that. Allowing the time for each post allows me to focus more on each post. I am running this AP with some of my young cousins and family. It is going well, but it is not very RP heavy with them, so I am looking to dive in a bit deeper and allow the characters to grow in this game.

Stats:
Races - Core, Legacy are 100% ok. Most races from Alien Arcive should be fine, but I have the right to veto some of the stranger ones.
Classes and Archetypes - Core only. Seeing as there is no 1st party other classes, yet. (if the game goes on long enough for more books with new classes and we have a death we can revisit this)
Themes - I prefer the main themes, but Themeless is fine too, just have a reason for it.
Alignment - No evil, please. Generally want everyone to want to help out, do good. Even if somewhat selfishly.
Posting frequency - I will likely post more than once a day, but I would like to require at least 1 post a day from people. I know this can be a lot, and everyone does not need to be perfect. I just want to keep the flow going. If you ever need to go afk for more than 2-3 days just let us know.

All standard Point buy, starting credits, etc are standard from the Core book. I will be double checking all builds to make sure nothing is missing.

Please include a background for your character. This includes:
1. A short 1-3 paragraph backstory
2. Planet you are from (90% likely a pact world, but if you have a good idea for something else, let me know)
3. A diety, or a reason to not believe. I feel having a Diety you follow really enhances the game. Feel free to use any of the Core Rulebook dieties. I will also allow "most" of the Pathfinder gods, as long as they are not officailly missing or something.
4. Reason for wanting to join the Starfinder society.

Everyone should be new to Absolom station, the AP starts out with you arriving there to join the society. So having a background elsewhere, with little or no experience in the Absolom station is prefered.

I will be using Roll20 for maps and combat. So please be ok with this. I understand if you can't always access it, but it becomes hard when everyone can't use it.

I will be keeping this open till next Friday, January 12th. I might extend it if needed, but my guess is we will fill up pretty fast.

If you have any questions please let me know! Looking forward to what people make.

You all have your reasons for joining up with Silas. He offered you all a easy job. Maybe a bit too easy. Guarding a basic caravan was a great way to earn some money, or so you thought.

Very little happened during the last. You mostly just followed Silas' lead on where to go, and when the caravan should take a break. A few of you started to realize Silas was hiding something, though none of you knew for sure, what it was.

One of the biggest cities you where to stop over in was a small town called Belhaim. As you approached the city you get a nice look at the "quaintness" of the town.

View as you approach

As the caravan approaches a man stands in the road. You can tell from his demeanor that this is a law man of some kind. You soon see a few more men waiting behind him.

The man speaks up "Excuse me sir. Can I see your paperwork for..."

...

What happened next seemed go happen almost too fast. It was one of those moments in your life, where you feel like you just skipped to the end, trying to remember exactly what happened. All you remember is the law man very quickly recognized Silas. Turns out he was a smuggler who had been moving through these parts for months. You where all interrogated by the law man and his men. They quickly realized you where all not involved with this man, and set free.

The next thing you realize is the law man, all of his men, Silas, the caravan, and any chance of getting paid are heading south.

You are all standing in the road, slightly dumbfounded. A small crowd of townsfolk watch this happen. Soon a young woman approaches your little group.

"Greetings strangers. That was like one of those horrible montages I have read about. My name is Talia. Talia Orem. I run the local inn for this town, The Wise Piper. I wanted to offer you all a few days free stay. I figured I should offer before any of those darn Abadar folks try to sell you one of their beds. Anyway, some rooms and food are available to you whenever you wish."

Talia is still standing there. If there is any role playing you wish to have before the caravan gets to town, go for it. Otherwise just jump in after Talia is done speaking.

I will be peppering in images here and there. When I do I will be placing them into the Campaign Tab for reference later, if you wish.

Here is a map of Belhaim: Map. You are currently in the south right accross the bridge. #4 is The Wise Piper. #3 is the Belhaim Garrison, where you where interrogated. As you learn what things are I will put them into the Campaign Tab

Let the discussion begin!

Hello all!

I have been very interested in GMing a PbP game here on the forums. I have been GMing awhile, but always at a table. I decided one of Paizo’s longer modules would be a good starting point. So I decided that The Dragon’s Demand would be a good option. It was my first game I ever GMed (after the beginner box), so I am curious to go back and do it again with what I have learned since then.

So if you are willing to work with me on a fist PbP attempt jump in with your character ideas.

The Specifics:
 • We will be starting at level 1 and I will be letting you know when to level. There are lots of weird "side quests" in this module that I don't want to be a requirement. You will level relatively fast.

 • Races: I am open to all races from Advanced Race Guide. Any race beyond that would be open for discussion.

 • Classes: Al classes created by Paizo with correct errata.

 • Alignment: I would prefer a Good Aligned character, but as long as you are willing to work with the group I don’t mind any alignment.

 • Abilities: High fantasy (20 point buy) (after racials no stat over 18 none under 8. I do this to help balance the flexibility of point buy.)

 • Skills: Standard

 • Traits: I would like to avoid using Traits for this game. I usually save traits for Adventure paths

 • Hit Points: Max at first level, then roll after that (will be done in discussion thread during level)

 • Starting Gold: Average starting gold for classes (Core pg. 140, or APG pg. 26)

 • Banned: Leadership feat, non-unchained summoner, 3rd party and 3.5 material, and Sacred geometry

Things you should know:
 • I going to push for at least a post every day. I am hoping you can follow suit. If you are going to be gone for any length of time please let me know so I can bot you. If anyone (including myself) needs a day, just shoot a quick message and it will understood. We can either bot you, or take a break, if it makes more sense.

 • I will be using roll20 for maps

 • Roleplay is going to be more of a priority than combat, but I want to try to make combat follow the rules as much as possible.

 • My deciding factor on picking characters will be mostly made on characters with personality. I also prefer characters with flaws that are not mix-maxed like crazy. I want everyone to be functional, but also have their own limitations.

 • No need to over build a backstory, just something that gives you a reason to be there, and a bit of personality.

 • I will not be changing drops in the module, so expect a pretty standard item drop types. Take that into account when making a character. If you rely fully on eastern or weird exotic weapons, you might miss out on weapon drops (for example)

Campaign info:

There is no Campaign Guide for this module. It should go from level 1-7. The story takes place in Verduran Forest of north-central Taldor, on a minor trade road between Wispil and Dunholme.

Your Characters should not be natives of the town. The baked in reason in the Module is:

A man named Silas Gribb offers you a job as caravan guards. Upon the caravan’s arrival in Belhaim, Gribb is arrested on a warrant for smuggling, and Belhaim’s sheriff and his most skilled deputies head out within the hour to escort him and his confiscated caravan south to Cassomir. You easily convince the authors of your ignorance about Silas’ criminal actives, but are left stranded in Belhaim, as Silas is obviously unable to pay you for the job.

Talia Orem, the young proprietor of the Wise Piper In, takes pity on the PCs and offers free room and board for a few days.

If you wish to go with something different than that we can work on it.

I am looking for 4 players. I will close recruitment next Sunday (October 22nd), unless I don’t feel we have a good enough group ready to go.

Let me know if you are interested, or have any questions! I am here to answer them to the best of my ability.

How does Limited Telepathy work?

So I am running into a few situations. How does Limited Telepathy work for these:

Set the scene: Group of 10 people. 2 Shirrens, 2 Lashuntas, and 6 mixed races. All in a small circle.

1. Shirren #1 wants to talk to Shirren #2. Does anyone else hear? They can talk back and forth telepathically.

2. Shirren #1 wants to talk to Human #1. Can the Human telepathically talk back? Or do they need talk out loud?

3. Shirren #1 wants to talk to Lashuntas #1 and Human #1. Can he direct the communication to just 2 individuals? Can they both hear? (along with question 2) can they talk back? Do they hear each other? I assume if the human can communicate back it would only be to Shirren #1, Lashuntas #1 would not hear.

4. Shirren #1 wants to talk to the whole group. Can he send a message to the whole group, similar to saying something out loud that the group can hear?

The language of the ability is a bit open for interprotation.

Quote:
Shirrens can communicate telepathically with any creatures within 30 feet with whom they share a language. Conversing telepathically with multiple creatures simultaneously is just as difficult as listening to multiple people speak.

The words that trip me up are:

Communicate: Does this mean 1 way or 2 way communication?
Any: It does not say 'all' creatures. In programming any means 1 or more. So the idea of talking to 1, 2 out of 10, or all 10 would all be valid.

I get the idea of parallel communication being difficult, I am just thinking about a Shirren in a group talking. I assume a Shirren can speak out loud if needed, but much prefers using its Telepathy.
Thoughts?

I have done a ton of searching and I can't seen to find a specific answer about this.

I know it was Errataed that Rapid Reload moves all Advanced Firearms reload to a free action.

I know you can Rapid Fire a Revolver (multiple bullets in it), but can you rapid fire with a Rifle? I would assume a reload of a Free action would mean I could.

BUT.. Lightning Reload (Ex) seems to counter this a bit. It says if you have Rapid Reload or are using Alchemical cartridges, you can reload a single barrel of a weapon as a free action each round instead.

I know the real benefit of this is that it does not provoke a AoO. But it says "a single barrel". Does this basically limit the free action to once per round?

If I have a Rifle, Rapid Reload, and Rapid Fire. Can I shoot the rifle, reload as a free action (via Rapid reload), then fire again, as a Rapid Fire action? Then potentially again as a second BAB shot?

If this has been answered before and my google-fu has failed me, I apologize.

So in the new book Magic Tactics Toolbox there is a new spell: Biting Words.
Short version:
Level 1
Target You
Effect: Once you cast this on yourself you can do a ranged touch attack doing 1d6 + STR or CHA (whichever is higher). It lasts 1 min/level and uses a minute per use.
Now I am a Sea Singer Bard. So I have a Parrot Familiar. He can speak Common (since he starts with a language). As a Familiar I can cast spells with a Target:You on him. Once I do this, does the damage (1d6 + STR or CHA) come from his stats? Or mine? I am the one who cast it on him. But now he is holding the spell and performing it.
I see 2 arguments to his:
1. The source of the magic is coming form me. So my Charisma modifier is what is creating the power behind the spell. So the Familiar is just using up my power I gave it, thus using my CHA modifier.
2. The Bird is doing the actual attacks by yelling at the enemy, so it would have to be its own Charisma...
Since Familiars can deliver touch attacks for you, the spell generally comes from you, but the "aiming" comes from the Familiar.
Thoughts?

Spell in question: The Lullaby of Ember the Ancient (Sing)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/bard/bardic-masterpieces/maste rpieces/the-lullaby-of-ember-the-ancient-sing

The Effect text says: .."one target falls asleep as if affected by Deep Slumber"

It says unlike the spell it targets a specific creature of my choice. Deep slumber affects 10HD of targets.

I have found posts in various places saying this Masterpiece does not have this restriction, and it acts more like a Witch's Slumber Hex.

Posts saying as much:
(James Jacobs - Creative Director, Says no HD limit, but need to ask in Rules page)
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2l7ns&page=991?Ask-James-Jacobs-ALL-your-Qu estions-Here#49518

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2nz7d?Bard-Masterpiece-The-Lullaby-of-Ember-the #1
(Someone says that "as-if" effects in PF tend to not inherit the restrictions of the abilities they reference)

So, does it have a HD limit?
