Welcome to my doomsday Dawn game! I decided to go with a paizo "traditional" group. Wizard, Rogue, Fighter, and cleric. I think it will be interesting to play through this with those options.
Again, these modules will require making new characters often. There are 7 modules in total. Modules 1, 4, and 7 will use the characters you submitted. 2,3,5, and 6 will have their own unique characters.
During a switch to a new module we can bring drop and bring in new people if someone drops out, or whatever. Either way we are all going to get used to creating characters. Your "main Hero" will level up between modules 1, 4, and 7. So we should get a giant range of levels.
This is going to be interesting!
So really fast, I would like everyone to add this to their character's profile:
Replace all { and } with [ and ]
Under Race: race {spoiler=Ongoing Conditions}
{spoiler=Daily Uses} Resonance: 5/5 Any other resource you have here.
Under Class/Level: Class/level | HP: 13/17 | AC: 14 TAC: 11 | Fort: +5, Ref: +1, Will: +3 (+2 anything) | Init: +1, Perception: +5 (Darkvision 60ft) | Spell DC (if you have one)
This should help keep everyone on the same page. I might ask to add things as we go if there are resources I need to track better. Also spell casters and stuff, just track your spells in your profile. Marking when a spell is used. This all does not need to be perfect, but I think it will help move along.
I plan on rolling for Saves, and init for everyone, to speed up the process. Because Init is different in this game, I might have to change that around, but we will see.
This is an adventure for everyone! If I do anything wrong, please let me know, and I will do the same. No hard feelings or frustrations here, just learning and having fun. If you have any issues please let me know.
Note: I will be using roll20 for maps, but also posting a picture on my website for this game of the current map. You will see what I mean as we go. If for some reason you are not able to sign into roll20, just look at the picture and tell me where I should move your token. I prefer signing into roll20, but I would rather give options.
Once everyone is here, we can jump in and get started. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Greetings, fellow adventurers! I for one am extremely excited to see how the new rules actually function in play.
I've added all the necessary info to my profile, though I do feel I should point out that Initiative is no longer its own stat.
Any thoughts on what kind of things you'll be giving out Hero Points for? That seems like one of the most GM-dependent aspects of the playtest.
DM Nex |
Yeah.. I am not sure how I am going to to Initiative. Normally I would just do the rolling, but I might just have to decide what stat is being used and roll that way, based on what your character was doing at the time.
Usually I decide what stat each PC rolls, so I think I can just do it still. This time it might be Perception or Stealth, depending on what people where doing..
As for Hero Points. Everyone Starts with 1. The system is really built around playing at a table. I am going to "try" to reward them for cool or special actions. We will see how it goes. I reserve the right to not use the system though. We will see.
I see you added Spell Points and Hero points to your Daily use spoiler. That is perfect, thank you.

Present and accounted for. Will edit the header per your requirements this evening.
Paizo is blocked at work, so you’ll see most of my activity evenings EST, unless it is something I can tap out on my phone over lunch.
Looking forward to learning the system and making tons of mistakes with you all!

So happy to be here as well! I edited my header, and it seems to be in order, though I'm moderately nervous about having 0 Resonance to begin with (I never saw anything giving a minimum of 1), but with the expert/master/legendary crafted weapons, I'm sure it will be fine. Anyhow, I'll write up an IC post in the Gameplay section in a moment or two.
DM Nex |
@Mazok - Could you possibly put the rest of your stats into your profile as well. The header helps with quick stuff, but sometimes i need to look up the specifics of what you have.
Fezzik's profile is a great example. I know you submitted your thing later, but having that fleshed out would really help.
I assume you have -1 Cha + 1 for your level. So yeah 0 Resonance. But you can push beyond that if you need to take a potion or something. It will matter less when you level up more and have access to more items.

Awesome. Question. How do you have a General Feat?
You should have your Ancestry feat, Background feat (Terrain Stalker), and fighter feat (Double slice), but I am not sure how you are getting Fast Recovery?
I think you get your first General Feat at level 3. Humans can pick an ancestral feat to take a general, but I think that is the only way to get one before level 3.
Otherwise I think everything else looks good. Hard to tell when I don't know the system THAT well yet. :)

In addition, since the dwarven waraxe is an uncommon weapon, I think you need to take Weapon Familiarity (dwarf) as your ancestry feat to have access to it. Doing so would also make you an expert with the axe, because the feat makes exotic dwarven weapons count as martial for proficiency purposes.
Mazok Forgespurned |
I thought I'd seen somewhere that you pick up a General Feat at 1st, but I could have just been in 1st edition mode at the time. I'll look into it tonight.
As for the waraxe, as a fighter I am trained in Exotic weapons, and though it's an uncommon weapon, because I am a dwarf and have been around dwarves, I believe it's not a stretch for me to have had access to one before now. However, because I'm only trained in Exotic instead of having expert proficiency, my to-hit for the weapon is 1 lower than it is for my others.
I don't have the pdf in front of me at the moment, but I will verify these tonight.
Mazok Forgespurned |
Well, I'm not sure where I saw that I would get a General feat, but I think you're right. I've taken it out of my profile. Good catch!
Mazok Forgespurned |
7 or 8 rewrites to get the formatting right and have the forum system roll the dice for my post... and then I get a natural 1. :D
Delitash |
A couple of minor rules things:
I don't think Mazok should be flat-footed to the goblins. The rogue has an ability called Surprise Attack which reads "On the first round of combat, creatures that haven't acted are flat-footed to you," so presumably that isn't true by default.
Also, I believe that for the three action version of heal, the amount of healing is reduced to just your spellcasting ability modifier.
Fezzik Mudchewer |
Ok, so Maz and I are up 4 HP prior to the current goblin skirmish?
And DM Nex, don't ever worry about pushing PBP forward! I much prefer the occasional flashback tweak than slowing things down even more than the format necessitates.
EDIT: wow, Roll20 doesn't like a mobile browser...
Delitash |
No problem.
Yeah, I have to agree with Fezzik. Especially given the tightly scheduled nature of the playtest, I'm all in favor of keeping a brisk pace.
Fezzik Mudchewer |
I haven't found anything in the rules about ranged fire into melee combat. Are we just tracing line of sight to see if there is a cover or screening AC bonus to target?
Fezzik Mudchewer |
Looks like Screening (p314, +1 circumstance bonus to target AC) might come into play, but only if you have to trace through an obstructed square. Looks like no penalties involved on cleanly traced shots, regardless of whether target is in melee with an ally.
Delitash |
I'm going to be camping for the next couple of days, so feel free to bot me whenever necessary.
Fezzik Mudchewer |
I notice I've been calculating (melee) damage wrong. Finesse striker allows DEX to add damage for agile/finesse 1-hand melee weapons. Neat.
DM Nex |
I am heading out of town tonight till Sunday. Found out today there will be no internet. But my wife and friend want me to run a game with them while we are there, so I will have my laptop, if I get any cell service I will try to jump on.
Sorry for the late notice. Will be back to our regularly scheduled program Sunday night.
Mazok Forgespurned |
Definitely appreciate the heads up. See you then!
Fezzik, the deadly trait seems to add a damage die on top of the doubled (normal damage dice + mod) for a crit (see Rulebook p. 308). I think you're missing an additional 1d6 damage on that first shot.
Delitash |
In line with the errata released today, Delitash has been updated to have a few more trained skills.
Mazok Forgespurned |
Does it seem like we could run past the rock trap and still not be in sight of where we think the goblins ahead are? Or would running through almost definitely leave us exposed?

Hello everyone. This weekend is Thanksgiving so I will very likely be unable to fit in a post. Please bot me if needed. You're welcome to use any resources I have, but please note: I no longer have any way to heal people. I’ll be back to regular posting on Tuesday. Thanks for understanding, and I hope you have a great weekend!
Delitash |
For the new ancestry errata Delitash is taking Versatile Heritage to get Alertness, giving her expert proficiency in Perception.
