I have some experience with the spell, several of my hunters use them for buff trading (Channel the Gift for a Heroism usually) and it save me from buying a wand of heroism.

A wand of channel the gift is pretty damn cost effective though, and it allows a character (or a group) to invest money to save on spell slots, which could result in plenty of unused spell slots at the end of the day.

I agree with Andrew though, after seeing too many improved familiars with wands (usually ill omen) and considering that you can get access to an improved familiar without levels in a spellcasting class, I think improved familiars are the problem.

I have to disagree I do not see a problem with improved familiars. I see more of a problem with charging cavalier hitting for 120, a raging barb with 5 attacks getting for 40 or more each hit and of course he only misses on a 2.

We can sit here and argue all day long about what we each personally think needs to be removed or just play the game and have fun.

Personally I do not see an issue with the spell.

I would be against banning this spell. I never use it, to me it is not worth the cost or the action especially at higher lvls.
As to the familiar issue I disagree with removing the wand use ability from. Improved familiars.

I do not see a large action issue with.
I have seen fighters barb Cav with 5 or more actions a round dealing upwards of 200 points damage in a single round.
So please explain how a familiar casting a spell from a wand is game breaking.

Thanks

And I believe iguanadon is one that wasn't in the Additional Resources that I intend to add back to the list.

I wouldn't count on it. It's quite possibly the most powerful AC, and John suggested some ACs are intentionally banned for power reasons.

It seems that it's hard to get an AC that gets all the following from the start:
- high strength (and therefore to-hit and damage)
- multiple natural attacks
- good Dex
- good natural armor class
- good Con

Even most of the really good ACs don't manage more than 3 of those, but the spinosaurus gets all of them.

Lau,

Why don't you do a comparison between the spino and the core rule book wolf.

They are pretty equal spino gets a couple points more in str but the wolf gets a free trip.

Personally I think the wolf is more powerful than the spino

There are quite a few dinosaurs that I don't really understand why they aren't legal - they're not that unusually powerful. Like the diplodocus, parasaurolophus or tylosaurus. As for megafauna, I think pretty much nothing in bestiary 2 and 3 is legal. But the megafauna from Bestiary 5 is legal - perhaps because it was also legal from Giantslayer?

Is there some kind of plan here, or is it a clerical error? Since I'm only allowed dinosaurs and megafauna for my goliath druid (with designs on mammoth rider), I'd like to know.

Some of those were purposeful, but a number of the absences appear clerical. I'm investigating the inconsistencies now.
Thanks :)

My examination suggests that most of the absent animal companion entries have either vanished in error, or the reasons for their disappearance are neither apparent to me nor recorded in any notes I have on the matter. Even if there were sound reasons for their exclusion before, I have flagged those entries for re-examination and likely reintroduction.

In the best of all worlds, it would be great to have a scenario or three that opened up these animal companion options (e.g. having the boon means all of a player's PCs can now train megatheriums and archelons as animal companions). Were such a scenario on the horizon, I might just leave these animals off the Additional Resources and include such a boon. However, I don't see a good candidate coming up in the next several months, and I have long since learned the difficulties of trying to contort an adventure to serve too many design masters.

There are still a few animal companion options that I am in no rush to reintroduce for campaign/design reasons. Perhaps those are the best candidates for boon inclusion down the line. In the meantime, I trust it will soon be easier to play a goliath druid.

Hopefully Spinausaurus is one of those. I will be able to bring my 5th lvl Saurian shaman out of retirement then.

(Is there a transcript of this? The recording is 2 hours apparently - I'm kinda impatient with podcasts and would rather skim through text.)

Anyway, claudekennikol's question seems to have become the main issue in this thread. It's a good question, though I don't quite agree with his standpoint.

It does seem that S7 is the Year of the Skill Check. Yed to dip into Ultimate Intrigue a couple of times to show off the new stuff. I'm looking forward to see if debate rules make it into a scenario. (Maybe they already have?)

I think to some degree S7 is mirroring a gradual change in PF as a whole. Starting subtly with Ultimate Campaign, but much more clearly with Occult Adventures and dashing out of the closet with Ultimate Intrigue, Pathfinder is venturing into a new territory. Before, the game was strongly focused on "classic" D&D themes: dungeons, caves, fortresses, forests; and confronting monsters therein. But now we get something new: adventures in the middle of settled society. City stuff. Of course you could always do that before, but these products give you a lot more tools to make adventures that really build on it. The city isn't just a place with more NPC clerics than average and less dungeon walls than average - it's a place with intrigue possibilities, with monsters hiding among the populace like wolves among sheep. Occult Adventures already posited a theme of "what ordinary people don't see" and Intrigue takes off from there.

So this is a new dimension to PF. It was always possible, and was used here and there. But now there's a lot more scaffolding for it. And we can expect that to show up in scenarios.

I think the Faithless and Forgotten trilogy is great. 1-5 adventures have a responsibility to show new players what's expected of them. If low-level adventures teach you that only combat is what's important, then it's gonna be hard to write high-level adventures where you suddenly need other

My 2 cents!

The only thing I did not like about this trilogy is that part three was a 1-5 also.

I ended up leveling out of the trilogy after part two.

Players should be made aware of that fact before playing part one.

John,
Is this possible ?

Taking undead from scenario to scenario is a bad idea.

Yes, some people want to play necromancers. They can, under the limitations of the campaign. I'd love to play a Master Summonner, but I can't, I understand the reasons why I can't, and I've moved on.

Variant undead makes undead a more viable "pet", and so I am personally not in favor of them. Neither, it seems, ar the previous five campaign coordinators and the majority of the 400 or so VOs, since the rule hasn't changed despite being suggested at least once a year. And I think those folks probably have a decent sense of what works campaign-wide and what doesn't.

Personally I find that some of my the inquisitor builds are more broken than allowing a necromancer to animate dead. People need to quit worrying g about what they don't like and worry about what is fun. JMTC

Why do some folks think they'll be screwed if they can't sign up for events within a few hours of the signups opening? I strongly suspect some serious perspective has been lost here. In the last couple of years, there were still slots open in many PFS games many days after signups opened. Everybody just relax! The con won't be ruined for you if you can't get to open event registration the first day it's open!

I've also played in non-full tables at the con itself. And, you can be sure there will be pick up games.

The extreme level of vitriol here is rather disheartening, but also completely unwarranted.

The problem is when you don't sign up early you lose out on the events you CAN PLAY and are left with the options of events you have already played.

In any case, it's not the end of the world. Thanks for letting me vent.
Your venting is definitely heard and we understand completely. I wish we could make sure that our scheduling worked for everyone and that we didn't have situations where we're constantly switching up dates/times, unfortunately this is the result this time. We're going to do our best to keep this from ever becoming a reoccurring issue.

Still all of the apologies do not make up for the money that I have now wasted. With signup changing as it has to hours where I will not be able to get the events I want. This will cause me to have to sit out and therefore it will be a wasted trip.

Any time that's convenient for people in one time zone (during lunch/after work) will be less convenient for people in other time zones. If it started at noon EST, it wouldn't be during lunch time for people in CST or PST. If it started after work for people in PST, it would be getting late in EST. If noon PST works for Paizo, I'll take it.

I guess you would since it benefits you

Ok thanks Jeff

Scarab Sages 4/5

In campaign mode you give the players all four chronicles at once. The first 3 give 3 xp and 4 pp. What do I give for the fourth as it is not associated with any part of the module. Do I just give the gold and 0xp/0pp? If they get xp for the fourth chronicle they will loose a lot of gold.
Thanks

I am not disappointed at all. I like the variety that pathfinder offers and this change shows that those who are in charge recognize that we get tired of the four aasimar and a tie fling walk into a bar scenario. Maybe we will see a little more race variety at the table.

That bolded section, and becomes a magical beast. how does that interact with Druid Animal companion rules?Magical beasts gain Low-light vision (and darkvision but celestial template grants that already), D10 HD, and Fast BAB Progression (BAB = to total HD).

Is this feat saying that your companion gains those as well, instead of the Druid Animal companion BAB, and the d8 HD provided for Druid animal companions?

The creature's type is regarded as Magical Beast for the purposes of bane weapons, ranger favored enemies, and spells, but doesn't change the rate or type of enhancements the companion gains as your druid gains levels. It doesn't grant the magical beast type stuff like different HD and the like.

James

What you are saying is that a rangers magical beast favored enemy bonus would work against a celestial companion. Now a ranger with +6 vs magical beast would get +6 to attack and damage per hit. If the companion were to get the magical beast hd and bab he would get a +3 bab and an additional 9 hp (9th lvl druid companion). This seems to give classes with a favored enemy/bane class ability an advantage over druids who take this feat
