WANT:

On-the-Job Training

REASON:

I'm making a Divine Strategist of Yamatsumi, the Mountain Lord, and Clerics don't get Climb as a Class Skill. The only character Traits that do are all Regional, and this character already has a Regional Trait, so On-the-Job Training looks to be my only option.

Thank you. I had forgotten about that Trait. It doesn't fit the character concept (mountains vs oceans), and it's from a different Faction anyways.

Luckily, you can reflavor your traits, unlike most options in PFS.

Sovereign Court 5/5 ⦵⦵

Thank you. Also aware of that. Still the wrong Faction.

Dark Archive 4/5

How does exactly boon trading work? .-. Like, how do you trade a sheet of paper and make sure its legit and stuff?

I guess it doesn't matter much anyway, I just have aasimar and some convention player boon, but I want dhampir because dusk knight dhampir just sounds cool so I figured out I should at least check out how this works

Sczarni 5/5 ⦵⦵

Snail mail is the most legit method.

You can scan and email, but some people (myself included) prefer hard copies.

If/when you're offering a trade, just be clear about what you're comfortable receiving.

Dark Archive 4/5

Yeah, but even if someone sends you a boon in mail(in which case how do I know if I send mine first that I actually get one in return? :'D), how do you know its real one?

You can ask for tracking numbers, if you wish. Insurance. Mostly it's an honor system. Thousands of people have used this thread for trading boons during the last 4 years, and I've heard of it happening maybe once.

CorvusMask wrote:

This is why snail mail is generally preferred. Real boons will have a signature along the bottom filled out in ink that won't match the printed text of the boon, in most cases (online convention boons would be easier to fake; you can likewise ask that people not trade you those).

I was a bit hesitant at first too, so I made a photocopy of the one I as about to send in case something went wrong. But everything worked out as planned so I threw away the copy.

Dark Archive 4/5

Okay, that does sound promising ._. Well, I guess I should now just wait until I get some boon someone might actually want to trade for dhampir xD

Scarab Sages 5/5 Venture-Captain, Netherlands aka Woran

I've traded a few boons here. Cross continent isnt always ideal for snail mail, so so far I made the deal for scans.
To prevent double dealing, when trading with scans, its common practice to write in pen on the boon, who its from, with PFS nr. And who its going to, also with PFS number.

Dark Archive 4/5

Huh, ok .-. So writing name & number works and scanning works just as well?

Come to think about it, how many dhampir boons unused there are already? I heard those were gotten from beginner box, but that there are still somehow of them unused? Why wouldn't they all be used by now?

There's at least one.

Some people might not have an idea for a character right off the bat*. Others might have sat on theirs in the hopes of trades or other uses. It is a mystery. ^_^

*pun intended

Scarab Sages 5/5 Venture-Captain, Netherlands aka Woran

Sometimes a race does not appeal. I hear the new boon is Viskanya. If I manage to get one, I'll probably trade it away. I have no affinity with the race.

Yes, they are pretty old they're specifically from the Beginner Box Bash. Personally, I know 1 person with one that they traded for in the past year or so. They still haven't built anything with it either though.

Dark Archive 5/5 ⦵⦵

That Negative Energy Affinity is hard to work around.

Not impossible, but enough to give one pause.

Dark Archive 4/5

Eh, what is an unlife without risks?

But yeah, I guess not everyone is as much into using risky builds as I am :'D I like making choices based on coolness factor.(though now that I think about it, dhampir are rare enough that if I ever get one, it will probably be only one I'll ever get so I'll probably make that one cruroomancer or kinslayer since dusk knight isn't dhampir exclusive)

Still, I find it odd to think that someone would get rare option and not use it, but I guess saving it to trade for rare options they'd prefer works too.

I traded a few boons and an Aasimar for dhampir (beginner box boon) late last year. Just hit lvl two with it, 1 gunslinger (musket master), 1 inquisitor (kinslayer).

Day by day the another boon is used.

"Immensely" is a pretty heavy word. Sure, it helps with healing in terms of you now being able to heal with normal cure spells, but it halves their efficiency. You're probably better off grabbing a wand of inflict light wounds and a potion of the same, and running out of range if someone channels positive. I've played a Life-Dominant Soul dhampir paladin to level 10 in a campaign, and he once rolled 4d6 for lay on hands and healed 3 HP. It's not worth the feat most of the time.

As an aside, since it's relevant to the topic at hand, I've completed three trades on here now. The first two were clearly legit boons. You can tell by the quality of the print and the paper that they were also originals. My most recent trade however clearly looks like a scanned print out. I was worried about the authenticity so I ran it by my area VC. He pointed out that, though it is a scan, the signature on the bottom was legit and it had an official pfs watermark so the original was fine. He therefore gave me the thumbs up to use it. Im always skeptical when I walk into a trade here, but so far so good thus I continue to trade.

My lodge is having players put their pfs #s on boons when they receive them now to prevent scanning and fakes. Otherwise I'd have a psychic dilettante and prophetic dreams for trade too.

While that's a good idea, I think it should be implemented differently. The way that your lodge has implemented this prevents any trading of the boons. You could put "Awarded on *Date* to *Receiving Society Number* by *Awarding Society Number*" and a colored stamp, or something similar, in the large amount of white space that ~95% of boons have on them.

Grand Lodge 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Great Lakes aka TwilightKnight

Or you could strike through the original PFS# and write "traded to PFS#" above it to show the transfer. That would also provide some security

3/5

Since trading of boons by scans was green-lighted (last I checked, anyway), I think serial numbers on boons in conjunction with a record on the boon as to who traded to whom on what date would be a good idea. That way, if two copies of the same boon show up, it will be clear who was responsible for it. I get that we work on an honour system, but some safeguards are always helpful.

Given the fact that Paizo's IT department would have to create a system to assign and track serial numbers for boons it is unlikely to ever happen. Besides if it got to the point where we needed to do that. Campaign management would most likely go the easier route of removing the ability to trade boons between players.

Grand Lodge 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Great Lakes aka TwilightKnight

The easiest safeguards are the ones we use for ourselves. Things like printing on colored paper, ink stamps, embossing, writing down the PFS# of the original recipient can all go to help discourage cheaters. No system is fool-proof and I think we would all be better off if Paizo does not insist on a specific set of security. Whenever they do that if forces some lodges to change how they do business and can create expenses not previously incurred. For example, I would hate to see a rule put in place requiring all boons to be embossed. That would have a huge impact on online play, not to mention all the lodges would have to fork out $30, $40, $50 or more for an embosser to have on hand. That's a pretty big expense for a smaller lodge of say 6-10 players.

That being said, we are adding some security measures for the larger events like PaizoCon and GenCon which will help reduce the chance those boons can be counterfeited.

We managed to make it this long governing this process ourselves. Most people are doing it just fine. Awareness is probably our best tool against cheating. If everyone who receives a questionable boon reports it to their local Venture-Officers, eventually the "evil doers" will be exposed and stopped.

My expanded narrative boon was gotten part of PFS gameday. I never got a paper copy.

But it looks like no one is interested anyway... Maybe I should just give it away to someone who can use it and hope to get an aasimar in some other way?

I don't think there is official list anywhere at least. They are supposed to be kind of a happy surprises after all.

Anyway, forgot to mention it before, but I'm from Finland :'D I guess that just makes trading stuff much harder to the "Don't bother" category? Ah well, good thing I don't have anything interesting to anyone so no need for me to feel bad about that.
