The big weakness I have for US confection is still Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - they are so wrong but so yum!
I *used* to be able to consume a whole bag of them during the course of a nightly game.
Now I'm lucky if I can manage a couple at a time.
I *think* that's an improvement?
*notes that a nice *real* Cadbury 'Fruit 'n' Nut' bar is a nice treat, but that's not really 'American', is it?*

I'll be bringing stroopwafels from the Netherlands (again).
Unless people have specific requests? :-)
Oh, I will be looking for you. There are a couple of companies in the US that make something they call stroopwafels, but they are just not the same as what I've had in Amsterdam. So yummy.

About two stops north (or a 15-20 minute walk) is the SeaTac Light Rail Station. You can take this into Seattle; it's a ~35-40 minute trip into the city. This is a quick and easy way to get downtown, which has Pike's Place & the Wharfs in terms of most readily accessible touristy things. I'd also recommend the EMP Museum, which is a bit further into the city and a walk or short taxi ride. Admission is $22 online/$25 at the door not including any special exhibits they may be running that include an upcharge. I found it very worth it when I went last year and spent a good 2+ hours there. Are there any convenient forms of public transportation (or hotel shuttles) to get to more interesting parts of Seattle?
This will be my first time in Seattle, and i'd like to see some of the sights and not spend my entire weekend inside a hotel.
Getting up to the sky needle & EMP the monorail is a bit of good fun.
The Underground tour is excellent.
The Chihuly Glass Museum is also great. It is right by the Space Needle.

To be fair, many of the glass sculptures there have tentacle like growths of glass extruding from their surface. So not too far a stretch...

I was about to chime in that you weren't too far off and saw other people already did. It is a really neat place. Mrs. Leg and I visited a few years ago and would totally go back.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
The countdown site I was using is broken/failing, so here is a nicer countdown for you all (I believe this one even adjusts automagically for your local time zones).

Still not ready.
Me either. Still trying to work out how much I can/should pack gaming wise - and whether I can pack enough to volunteer and/or run some pick up something or not... >.<

I'm not sure if I'm hoping that the Taco Bell is restricted to drive thru again or not. A question of convenience versus health. :P
I got down there for NorWesCon and it's open! Yum!
BTW... for anyone preferring 'local flavor', but a hankering for tex-mex, Taco Time is not what you want, trust me, go with the Bell.

*shudder*
If Taco HBell is the lesser of two evils then maybe tex-mex is off the table this trip.

Lots of good choices for Pho and dim sum in the area....
Good steakhouse / whiskey venue, too.

Something just occurred to me in this discussion of food places...
Are we down-rating places that may not look the greatest but put their money *in the food* or are we down-rating because 'nearly had to go to the hospital in extreme gastrointestinal agony'?
Because if the first is the case, two of the places I eat at regularly around my area don't look very good at all, but the food is amazing.

If you are in Seattle, try the teriyaki. It's been said that Seattle runs on coffee and teriyaki, and thus far, I have found this to be accurate.
If you are looking for Mexican, Southern, or BBQ, you are likely to be disappointed. (Though I have made it a personal mission to locate such places up here.)

So, where's the best (and closest) place to get good teriyaki?

Actually found a decent BBQ place at 105th St & Greenwood Ave N - but that's quite far from the hotel and most others reading this. Best fast mexican has been at UW - 24-hour Memo's at 50th St & University.
But yes, most of the teriyaki I've had here has been quite decent. Masae's Teriyaki two blocks south of the hotel is well reviewed, but I can't speak for it personally.

Best Mexican I've found is Senior Moose in Ballard - also not at all close to the hotel.

I'm really excited to try that Tai place! Speaking of ... They don't list prices on their web site - anyone know how expensive they are?
Me too - I looked at the menu and realised there are almost enough main courses that interest me that I can eat there for my whole 10 day stay >.<

I don't know if everyone is good or if there is still some issues with single/double bedded rooms. But FYI I just changed my room from 2 queen beds to a single king as could not get anyone to room with me & I sure as heck didn't need 2 beds. So just in case there was anyone still in need of a 2 queen bed room call soon before it's gone. :)

Here's an odd question: What's the ambient temperature like in the convention space? My phone's weather app is decidedly unhelpful.
Particularly, I am curious if it is on the warmer side. I had intended to wear formalwear for at least a little while during the convention, but I wonder if I would overheat.
rknop |
Depends where you go. Outside, it could be warm, probably won't be hot, might be raining.
Inside, it's probably pleasant most places. The smaller game rooms can get warm with all the people in them.
You may feel overdressed in formalwear, unless it's a Pathfinder-related costume. Everybody else is going to be in the formality equivalent of jeans and a T-shirt. (I also don't remember a *lot* of cosplaying at PaizoCon. I've seen a few folks in costumes, but not very many. I always think that if I knew what I was doing and had a flair for this sort of thing, I'd try to dress up as Ezren.)

I come from Maine, I assume 50 degrees fahrenheit is shorts & t-shirt weather. The good news is I prefer warmer temps (go figure.)
We've been having bizarrely warm weather, so it could just as easily be 80 degrees as 55. But in the case of it being 55 it will be overcast to pouring down rain.

Any chance the following books will be available in the Paizo store:
Typically we don't bring much that's not Pathfinder compatible in the RPG category to the show and since we don't have any copies of either of these books in our warehouse at the moment, I'd say it's unlikely that we would have them there.

For those at the hotel on the Thursday prior to the con, there may well be a pick up game or two (or more) of the FFG Star Wars beginner games - I will likely have Rebellion, Edge of Empire, and Force and Destiny beginner games with me as they actually all fit in the same small box together. ;)
I'll take on any gamer - families, individuals, mad light-sabre wielding crazies - including Paizo staff, I hold no fear against such lords and ladies of darkness - and it might be a nice way to ease into the four day Pathfinder binge without a PF overdose! :D
It's likely that these games may crop up in the pick up zone during the con too for when I have nothing else scheduled and manage to get away from all that shopping! So keep your eyes open if you fancy some sci-fi hi-jinks... (And my star wars universe comes with European chocolates and sweets, yup, bribery, I will use it!) :P
I didn't enter actual events for these because, being my first US convention, I didn't want to tie myself down too much and want the wandering/player experience too!
There, now I have incentive to actually read them and do some basic prep! >.<

While that's an interesting offer I'll probably be spending the front part of the day zoning out/recharging from travel, the middle part helping set up if I'm needed, and the last part trying to relax (and probably failing miserably.)
Thank you very much for the offer, though, and it may be an option if I can scrape together brain cells for it?
Ugh. Really don't like the stress ramp-up when a convention gets close... 19 days and counting.
